•Diversity enriches the culture
of the country. But sometimes
we form certain attitudes and
opinions that cause concern.
Discrimination- is the
practice of making
distinctions and treating
unequally.
•Prejudice is an unreasonable
opinion about a person which is
formed without much thought or
knowledge.
•
•A stereotype is a fixed idea that
people have about someone or
something which is often not true.
•I AM fatma
•I AM a girl
•I am pakistani.
•I am muslim.
• I am the daughter of mohammed and hasnat.
•I am galilean.
•I am a tomboy.
•I am the student of class 6.
•I am student of priyanka miss.
•I am friend of Manya.
•I am a child.
•I am a lover of music.
•I am person who loves black color.
•I am person who hates pink.
•I am a non vegetarian.
THE DIFFERENT IDENTITIES
POSSESED BY A PERSON IN
DIFFERENT CONTEXTS.
•There were four main castes in ancient India. The first three
castes were supposed to be high born castes because of the
functions they performed.
•The members of the fourth caste were poor, performed menial
tasks and served in other three castes.
•The lower caste, called the Dalits, were treated as untouchables
and had to live separately. They were assigned menial work and
were considered as outcastes.
•They were denied opportunities in education and work. The
higher castes would not interact with them.
•Later due to the intervention of many reform leaders like
Gandhiji and B R Ambedkar, the caste discrimination has been
constitutionally abolished.
•Today these people who belong to the lower caste are called
Scheduled Castes.
•Main pioneer against caste discrimination.
•Also known as Babasaheb
•He belonged to a poor low caste family who were treated as
untouchables.
•He had suffered that effects of being untouchable as a child
itself. He was able to attend school, he had to sit separately
and was not allowed to mingle with others.
•He fought against all prejudices and fought for rights of the
untouchables.
•When India got independence in 1947, Dr Ambedkar was
made the chairman of drafting committee which was given
the responsibility of drafting a constitution of India.
•The Indian Constitution provides for the equality
for all Indians.
•The Preamble states the objectives as justice,
equality, liberty and fraternity for all the Indians.
•The fundamental Rights guaranteed to all
Indians abolish untouchability and forbid its
practice in any form.
•The Constitution states that no person can be
discriminated against on the basis of caste, color,
region, language or religion.
•All people are equal in the eyes of law.
