Chemistry is a hands-on science course that many high school students dread taking. In some small communities, there may only be one chemistry teacher available. Distance education has grown significantly and now serves over 460,000 online students in midwestern states. While distance education can expand access to courses, effective instructional strategies and student support systems are needed to ensure learning for distant students.

3rd International e-Conference Achievements
Texila American University organized its 3rd International e-Conference on the theme of "The Power of Academic Research for Innovation in Practice and Policy". Over 80 countries submitted research papers which were reviewed by expert judges. The virtual conference was held on a virtual reality platform, included 4 halls and 8 sessions, and had 512 presenters and viewers. Participants provided positive feedback, praising the experience as simplified, cost-effective, and encouraging despite some minor technical issues. Looking ahead, Texila will reveal details for its 4th International e-Conference.

The Global Health Engagement Initiative (GHEI) surveyed 200 minority-serving institutions (MSIs) to understand barriers minority students face in global health. It found the largest barriers were lack of finances and access to opportunities. 59% of minority respondents cited lack of support for travel, jobs, and mentorship in academic programs. The survey also found 34% of institutions had less than 15% minority students in global health programs. It recommends offering comprehensive funding for overseas opportunities, diversifying funding sources for research, and developing mentorship programs to support minority students in global health.

This document discusses a case study of the use of technology enhanced learning (TEL) in a pharmacology and nurse prescribing course at the University of Nottingham. TEL technologies like a virtual learning environment (VLE), reusable learning objects (RLOs), and lecture podcasts were used to support retention, deep learning, and catering to different learning styles. Student surveys found that podcasts were widely used and generally seen as useful learning and revision tools that helped improve understanding and exam performance. The purpose of this paper is to present the findings of a study that examines undergraduate students’ experience with research, library and information use prior to coming to university and their behaviour and attitude towards library and information after they have been exposed to a variety of library awareness activities and received information literacy training during their first year at Ozyegin University in Turkey. Students take a compulsory “Introduction to University’ subject during their first semester taught by both internal and external experts on a wide range of topics including ‘Journey of Information’ presented by library staff. The Library is also involved in the subsequent delivery of information literacy programs throughout students’ university programs in an on-going effort to engage them and to get them involved in university-wide activities. The library staff work as partners with the faculty and other student support services in designing, delivering and evaluating these programs.

This document summarizes Abilene Christian University's online Master of Arts in Christian Ministry (MACM) degree program, which includes students from Ghana, Croatia, and the United States studying together. The program began in 2014 through partnerships with schools in Ghana and Croatia. Students learn about ministry from diverse cultural contexts. The program incorporates principles for effective online multicultural education, such as addressing power dynamics and encouraging participation from all cultures. Community of Inquiry course design supports learning across cultures by emphasizing social, cognitive, and teaching presences.
Access to and experience of education for
This scoping review aims to identify research on the access to and experience of education for children and adolescents with cancer. The review will search various databases and sources from inception to identify literature on: (1) the experiences of children/adolescents and parents/professionals regarding education during and after cancer treatment; (2) factors impacting access to education settings during/after treatment; and (3) types and effectiveness of interventions to facilitate education access. Findings will help develop understanding and improve support for the educational needs of children with cancer.

Doctors of Tomorrow – A Pipeline Program for Getting a Head Start in Medicine
Purpose: Pipeline programs have long been embraced as a strategyto recruit students from groups underrepresented in medicine into medical careers. Despite the prevalence of these programs, we know little about why students seek out participation and even less about their perceptions of the potential long-term benefits. This study explored the motivations and expectations of pipeline program participants. Method: Twenty-three high school students participated in the Doctors of Tomorrow (DoT) program, a high school and medical school partnership pipeline program from September 2014 through March 2015. Data for this study included students’ application essays, critical incident narratives, focus group discussions and transcripts from individual interviews. Thematic analysis was used to analyze all narrative materials and transcripts. Results: Our analysis of all program data revealed that DoT participants were motivated to participate in the program to learn about becoming a physician, gain access to individuals in medicine and develop a competitive advantage over other students when applying to college and medical school. Conclusions: Barriers to careers in medicine for individuals from groups underrepresented in medicine is well documented. These findings suggest that students seek to participate in pipeline programs as astrategy to secure goal-oriented, experiential encounters to help improve access points and mitigate barriers to becoming physicians
Foundations of distance education
Distance education has become mainstream, with over 100 conferences dealing with it annually. It is as effective as traditional education according to research. Coldeway's Quadrants provide a framework to define education approaches based on time and place, including same-time/same-place, different-time/same-place, same-time/different-place, and different-time/different-place. Distance education has a long history and professional organizations support its growth, though licensure, liability, privacy and payment policies present impediments. Technologies like video conferencing support distance learning.

This dissertation studied strategies to increase participation in peer tutoring programs for first-generation college students. The study surveyed first-generation students at a public university about their participation in tutoring programs. Most students reported they did not participate in tutoring. The study examined reasons for non-participation and student opinions on current recruitment strategies. The results could help develop new strategies to improve tutoring program participation and support for first-generation students.

This dissertation examined strategies to increase participation in peer tutoring programs among first-generation college students. A survey and focus groups were conducted with first-generation students at a public university. The results found that the vast majority of respondents were not enrolled in tutoring programs. Female students participated in tutoring programs at a higher rate than male students. When asked about reasons for non-participation, students reported that tutoring was not central to their college experience. The current strategies of promoting tutoring through orientations and materials were viewed as adequate by students. The study aims to provide recommendations to improve tutoring participation among first-generation students.

- 6. • Eminent historian Frederick Jackson Turner ran the correspondence program of the University of Wisconsin in the late 1800s. •Telemedicine refers to medicine at a distance, and telelaw refers to law at a distance. •The United States Distance Learning Association is a professional organization of those involved in distance education.
- 7. Many who study distance learning make few claims about the approach being better. Rather, they say it is a viable and important approach to learning and teaching that should be one option of many available.
- 10. Separation of the student and the teacher is a fundamental characteristic of distance education. Distance education is a dramatic idea. It may change, even restructure, education, but only if it is possible to make the experience of the local learner.
