2. Emerging Technology
Refers to
• a new technology or
• a continuing technology or
• a technology expected to be developed in the near future
and will have an affirmative significance in social, economic and political aspects of
human life.
Technologies
• emerged
• created
• enhanced and
• developed through progress called evolution of technology.
Evolution of technology is a process of developing the science of mechanical and
industrial arts through gradual changes.

3. Industrial Revolutions
During the late 1700s to early 1800s industrial revolution was started in England.
Societies started
• to use new sources of energy like coal
• to migrated from rural areas to cities
• to develop new transportations, communication systems and industries.
Industrial revolution
• Relocated productions of goods from small homes and shops to large factories.
Industrial revolutions that our world come across until are
• Industrial revolution(1.0)
• Industrial revolution(2.0)
• Industrial revolution(3.0)
• Industrial revolution(4.0)

4. Cont. . .
Industrial revolution(1.0)
• First started in England during 18th century.
• Transition from hand production to new manufacturing processes.
• Steam engine was used by production machines and transportation systems.
Industrial revolution(2.0)
• Started in the late 1870s, also called technological revolution.
• Electricity power and telephones were introduced during this era.
• Mechanical systems started to be replaced with electric driven ones.
• Analog communications
Industrial revolution(3.0)
• Started in the late 1950s.
• Transitions done from analog systems to digital, so called digital revolution.
• Computer, handphones and internet were introduced.

5. Industrial revolution(4.0)
• The current era in industrial revolutions.
• Artificial Intelligence introduced.
• AI realizes autonomous cars, automated robots, IoT and smart cities.
• Cyber-physical systems, a computer based algorithm driven anything, anywhere and
anytime.
The four types of industries:
• The primary industry involves getting raw materials e.g. mining, farming, and fishing.
• The secondary industry involves manufacturing e.g. making cars and steel.
• Tertiary industries provide a service e.g. teaching and nursing.
• The quaternary industry involves research and development industries.

6. Role of Data: For emerging technologies
Data is a raw fact, used as an input for enormous applications.
In todays world data considered as:
• a new oil
• a strategic asset
• a potential resource
that have a capability to determine the future of science, technology, the economy, and possibly
everything.
Data is very crucial for the emerging of new technologies.
Its the data that leads the world towards innovations.
We’re living in the age of big-data, where everything is accordingly to the data driven
theories.

7. Computer and Enabling Devices
A computer also referred by the name “programmable device”. Why?
• A computer don’t have an IQ.
• Therefore it acts according to the preset instructions encoded to it called programs.
A computer ( programmable devices) mainly possesses:
1. Memory: storages RAM, ROM, Secondary storages
2. Microprocessors:- control unit + registers + arithmetic and logic unit
3. Logic: are circuits that drive a computer
4. Network devices: also called service-enabling devices like modem, switch and routers.
Network is interconnections of computing devices, peripherals, servers and etc. to allow data
and resources sharing.
List of programmable devices:
• Arria II GX
• Actel’s
• Silicon Blue Technologies

8. Human Computer Interaction
Also called human-machine interaction.
• focused on man-machine communication techniques.
• deals with design, evaluation and implementation of interactive systems.
• there are several interaction approaches like command line, GUI, gesturing and etc.
HCI studies:
• Users behaviors
• Communication approaches
• Computer advancements in enabling interactions.
HCI is crucial in enhancing:
• Effectiveness
• Efficiency
• Usability
• Universality
• Durability
• Reliability
• Productivity of a system.

Disciplines in Human Computer Interaction
• Cognitive psychology :-to study human behaviors.
• Computer science
• Linguistics
• Engineering and Design
• Artificial intelligence
• Human factors
• Ergonomics and etc.
