Everyone is talking about microservices, and there is more confusion than ever about what the promise of microservices really means and how to deliver on it. To address this we will explore microservices from first principles, distilling their essence and putting them in their true context: distributed systems.
What many people forget is that microservices are distributed and collaborative by nature and only make sense as systems—one collaborator is no collaborator. It is in between the microservices that the most interesting and rewarding, and also challenging, problems arise—enter the world of distributed systems.
Distributed systems are by definition complex, and we system developers have been spoiled by centralized servers for too long to easily understand what this really means. Slicing an existing system into various REST services and wiring them back together again with synchronous protocols and traditional enterprise tools—designed for monolithic architectures—will set us up for failure.
As if that wasn’t enough, we can’t just think about systems of microservices. In order to make each microservice resilient and elastic in and of itself, we have to design each individual microservice as a distributed system—a «microsystem»—architected from the ground up using the reactive principles.
Dan Galante Sales & Marketing Q&A Round 2Dan Galante
Dan Galante provides advice on naming a new food startup business, overcoming holiday objections from sales prospects, using a working name on LinkedIn, guerrilla marketing tactics with no budget, how social media complements TV by engaging audiences, keeping acquired website URLs intact, rewarding customer referrals, tracking referrals, and reassuring users about sharing Facebook login credentials. He suggests brainstorming names related to products and services, qualifying objections, setting specific follow up dates, using the working name on LinkedIn, focusing on free social media marketing, and demonstrating the business protects user privacy and data.
Why Demand Generation Funnels Are a Limiting ApproachTechTarget
There’s a whole world of potential buyers that marketers are missing out on using traditional demand generation techniques to fill their funnels. New data and marketing tools allow marketers to see prospects who are exhibiting buying signals beyond just what they’re getting from their own efforts.
This presentation explores why today’s marketers need to take an integrated approach to demand generation – one that combines elements of lead generation and intent-data-based solutions – in order to give their sales team a chance at every deal in the market.

Mainstreaming OER in Support of Achieving SDG4Cable Green
The document discusses how open educational resources (OER) can help achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically SDG4 which focuses on education. It argues that OER can be continuously updated to teach about the SDGs, connecting education to solving global challenges. Students could also help create and revise OER about the SDGs, allowing their work to make a meaningful impact while also motivating deeper learning. The document promotes mainstreaming OER to support achieving the SDGs.
The document discusses the concept of "The Triforce of value" which states that when creating a product or service, you must choose to be either good, fast, or cheap but not all three. It says the triforce answers the question of how a company will provide value to customers. It defines good as quality, complex features, elegance, and reliability. Fast is defined as speed, convenience and time-saving. Cheap means affordable and low investment. Positioning and clarity on what value you provide is important for customer segment and communicating what you are not doing. Examples are given to illustrate the triforce concept.
