Glinda begins, “I’ve heard it said that people come into our lives for a
reason.” And while she doesn’t know if it’s true, she sings, “But I know I’m
who I am today because I knew you.” Elphaba responds, “Whatever way
our stories end, I know you have rewritten mine by being my friend.” The
song ends with both women singing, “Because I knew you I have been
changed for good.”
I love how the lyrics put a spotlight on the power relationships have to
transform our lives in profound ways. And how the phrase “for good” is
used to reference both personal improvement and a permanent change.
Donald Clifton, psychologist and business executive, once said, “Rela-
tionship helps us to define who we are and what we can become. Most of
us trace our successes to pivotal relationships.”
At Melaleuca, the personal growth Marketing Executives experi-
ence from building a Melaleuca team is very real, and it’s driven by the
relationships forged along the way.
One of my favorite Broad-
way shows is Wicked.
Toward the end, the two
main characters Elphaba
and Glinda perform the
song, “For Good.” The lyrics
focus on how their friend-
ship has changed them
both, putting each on the
pathway to her own destiny.
The Power of Relationships
Extensive research shows that satisfaction in our vocations can be traced back to one question:
“Do you have a best friend at work?” The research strongly indicates happiness is driven less
by WHAT we’re doing, and more about WHO we are with. (Wellbeing: The Five Essential Ele-
ments by Tom Rath & Jim Harter; 2010)
I can immediately think of so many Melaleuca examples, but here’s one that comes to
mind. Just over a year ago, I was honored to have dinner with a brand-new team in Reno,
Nevada, where I met Director 7 and speech pathologist Julie Smith and her enroller,
Director 9 and kindergarten teacher Mandy Limbert. I met a few of their team members,
and I was so impressed with everyone I met. I remember commenting to the group over din-
ner that relationships like these are the foundation of business and personal growth.
Julie and Mandy shared with me how much they appreciated how National Direc-
tor 5 Brooke Paulin had taken such an interest in helping them build their businesses. Both of
them attribute much of their success to their relationship with Brooke.
Here’swhatMandyrecentlytoldmeaboutthatrelationship:
“I’m not exaggerating when I say Brooke has changed my life. Brooke has
been there every step of the way. She taught me how to approach, then flew
to Reno to do my first in-home. She taught me how to enroll, how to follow
up with customers, how to add names to my contact list, how to place people
in my organization, and how to watch a webcast with a guest. She taught me
to dream and gave me hope for a better financial future that was almost dead
inside of me at the time. She helped me find builders and did strategy ses-
sions for them at first, then taught me how to do it. She taught us how to team
up, work together, and kept our excitement ignited with weekly team calls and
lots of check in texts, calls, and emails. She taught us to be proud of Melaleuca
and proud of the work we do.
“Inthelastyear(ayearthatshewaspregnant,hadababy,andmovedacross

Where are Mandy and Julie now? Both have a coveted spot on the list of
Top Directors for North America. Julie’s latest three checks have averaged
$1,944, and Mandy’s have averaged $3,050. Thanks to the relationships they
have built, their lives have been changed for good. In turn, they are transform-
ing the lives of others. Like all our teams, they are forging a chain of change
for good that goes on and on.
Develop Your Destiny
Time and time again, we’ve seen our Marketing Executives bloom in ways
they never have before. How many traditional jobs put their employees in
the driver’s seat and let them choose when they get a promotion and when
they get a bonus? How many traditional jobs provide unlimited access to
professional development trainings? How many traditional jobs acknowledge
and celebrate every step toward success? Trips, getaways, personalized career
coaching, recognition in a magazine, face time with the CEO—this is not the
kind of treatment most people get from the companies they work for, but
that’s what you get with Melaleuca.
For stay-at-home parents, there’s no such thing as a promotion or a raise or
an employee-of-the-month award. Raising children is the most important job
there is. And while it is extremely rewarding, for parents who stay at home full
time, it can be draining, lonely, and thankless. The relationships, recognition,
and growth Melaleuca provides while enabling stay-at-home parents to focus
on their families is an aspect that many, many Marketing Executives treasure.
Melaleuca’s emphasis on wellness doesn’t stop at heart health or at finan-
cial freedom. Melaleuca offers business builders personal growth and develop-
ment that isn’t found elsewhere—at least, not that I know of. I’ve had many,
many Marketing Executives share their stories of personal growth. People
who are afraid of public speaking are giving stellar Overviews. Quiet and
shy types have become comfortable reaching out and making new friends.
Executive Director 2 Molly Pretzlaff has come out of her shell when it comes
to social media and is connecting with others in a way she used to be uncom-
fortable with. Even our Marketing Executive of the Year Executive Director 6
Missy Markiewicz has talked about the leadership qualities she has developed
that she didn’t have before. The fulfillment our Marketing Executives experi-
ence here is life-changing. With Melaleuca, people are able to reach goals they
didn’t even know they had!

January 2016 Launch, Convention, and
ADVANCE.
Every Marketing Executive who has experienced the most personal
growth can share stories of how their “moment” happened at a live event.
Success belongs to those who show up on purpose; it never happens by
accident. Watch how things change for you when you start intentionally
owning your personal development. See pages 63 and 68 or go online
to Melaleuca.com/BusinessCenter to see dates and locations of upcom-
ing events. Mark your calendars, bring others with you, and buckle up.
Want an example of what this looks like? Remember my story about top
Directors Mandy and Julie? They’re going to pile into a van with their
teams and drive 600 miles from Reno, Nevada to our ADVANCE Regional
Leadership Conference in Idaho Falls on September 19th. That’s a 9 hour
drive to be at ADVANCE. Now that’s leading on purpose.
Plug In: Connect with others.
Enrollees connect with your enroller and their support team. Enrollers and
Support team: connect with your organizations. Stay plugged into weekly
and monthly team calls, Super Saturdays, Fast Tracks, Power Hours, Leader-
ship Celebrations, and 1-1 mentoring sessions. You will expand your network
and deepen your relationships with others in your area. And as you build
these relationships with others, seek out those you can help reach their goals
and watch how your personal growth accelerates. One of the great ironies in
life is that you accelerate your personal growth by simply taking the focus
off yourself and focusing on others instead.
Get a Coach: The most successful people
in any industry work with coaches includ-
ing top athletes and CEOs.
I’ve worked with an executive coach for years, and I’m happy to say he’s now
one of my best friends. Coaching is one of the best things you can do to
continually improve. Where do you find a coach? The best coach you’ll ever
have is probably your enroller or someone in your Support Team. However,
you have an additional resource open to you. I’ll tell you a secret only the
most successful take advantage of: Melaleuca has a team of highly-trained
Executive Coaches here in Idaho Falls that work exclusively with people
like you who are the most committed to changing their lives and the lives
of others. True to our mission, this service is complementary. The only pay-
ment needed is your commitment to be coachable and to consistently do the
activities necessary to reach your goals. Look for their smiling faces in this
LIA, and contact your coach today! Among our coaches, one of our favorite
quotes is from improvisational instructor, Martin De Maat, (1949-2001): “You
are pure potential.”

See pages 63 and 68 or go online to Melaleuca.com/BusinessCenter to see dates and locations of upcom- ing events. Mark your calendars, bring others with you, and buckle up. Want an example of what this looks like? Remember my story about top Directors Mandy and Julie?
