Prayer - The Apostle's Creed
I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of
heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, His only Son,
our Lord: Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary; suffered under Pontius
Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He
descended into hell; the third day He rose again from
the dead; He ascended into heaven, is seated at the
right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence
He shall come to judge the living and the dead. I
believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Catholic Church,
the communion of Saints, the forgiveness of sins, the
resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.

Creation of Humanity & Image and Likeness
How are we like God?
 Endowed with an immortal soul, a rational intellect, and a free
will
 Human relationship are to reflect the Blessed Trinity as a
“community of persons” – Father, Son and the Holy Spirit
 Adam and Eve were created
 Matrimony – two become one flesh – resultant – new human life
created with love
 We all are one human family
Salvation History
 Tragic fall from grace of our first parents
 Used their free will to disobey God – deceived by Serpent
 Consequence – they lost the grace of original holiness
 Subject to death
 Sin made present in the world
 Every person then be born in the state of original sin
 Original sin
 Separates us from God
 Darkens our intellect
 Weakens our will
 Inclines us towards sin
 Because of original sin the world fell from God’s original plan
Conclusion
God will begin to restore
humanity to himself in the Old
Testament and this finds
fulfillment in the Church
Church is the assembly of the
people of God called by Christ
into communion

Editor's Notes

  • #9 Take a minute look at your book and read the Apostles creed.
  • #11 The word "Church" (Latin ecclesia, from the Greek ek-ka-lein, to "call out of") means a convocation or an assembly. It designates the assemblies of the people, usually for a religious purpose.139 Ekklesia is used frequently in the Greek Old Testament for the assembly of the Chosen People before God, above all for their assembly on Mount Sinai where Israel received the Law and was established by God as his holy people.140 By calling itself "Church," the first community of Christian believers recognized itself as heir to that assembly. In the Church, God is "calling together" his people from all the ends of the earth.

  • #18 Mystical Body, said it is the society of those who have been baptized, and who profess the faith of Christ, and who are governed by their bishops under the visible head, the Pope, the Bishop of Rome. The Church is a mystical society because the ultimate explanation of her nature is a strict mystery which transcends the capacity of our minds to comprehend. St. Paul, where he compares the union of man and wife in marriage with the union of Christ and the Church, and describes both alliances as a mystery.
