3. “Come Holy Spirit” ~ Prayer
Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle

men and for our salvation he came down from heaven, and by the Holy
Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man. For our sake
he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was
buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the
Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of
the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead
and his kingdom will have no end. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord,
the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with
the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through
the prophets. I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I
confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the
resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.

 The Church is “One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic.”
 These are the four characteristics or “marks” of the Church.
 The Church is one because it is unique: Christ founded
one Church, and all members of the Church are united in
his one body.
 The Church has been afflicted by various schisms and
divisions, but remains in essence one. All Christians are
called to work toward greater unity with one another.

in one God, not many gods.
 Unity is of the essence of the Church
 Scripture – “One flock, one shepherd” (Jn 10:16 & Mt 12:25)
 Through the Church on earth all humanity has an opportunity to be
united to Christ by becoming part of the one Mystical Body.

united as a family) originates in God, who as
Trinity is perfect in unity, one God in three persons.

 Period of Persecutions ~first three centuries of the
Church it was illegal to be a Christian and the
punishment could be death.
 Martyrdom ~ many martyrs could escape death if
they renounced Christianity.
 Those that didn’t renounce we call martyrs but
those that did became apostates.
 They would need to publically confess and do
penance to be welcomed back into the Church.

 Those that are a part of schismatic Churches we call
separated brethren.
 Those Churches have elements of holiness and truth within
them to a degree.
 We pray for the return to Catholic unity amongst these
churches.

 a deliberate and persistent denial of a truth of
the faith taught by the Church
 Catholic doctrine comes from revealed truths from
Christ entrusted to his Church.
 Heresy is the denial or changing of these
teachings, known as the Deposit of Faith.
 The word Heresy comes for the Greek word
meaning “choice” and means that the person is
picking and choosing their beliefs instead of
accepting what Jesus revealed.

The Churches holiness seeks to transform sinners
enabling them to become saints.
