Holy Orders is a sacrament of service and communication that confers ordination, allowing men to act in the person of Christ. It requires baptized males of excellent character who have an interior and exterior call, are properly trained, and meet the age requirement of 24. The sacrament is normally celebrated at Sunday mass, where the candidate has hands laid upon him and a prayer is said asking God for the gifts of proper ministry. Pope John Paul II believed Holy Orders provided personal fulfillment by allowing men to go forth and bear fruit through their vocation.
