Mitosis is a type of cell division that produces two daughter cells with identical genetic material to the original parent cell. There are three main reasons for mitosis: growth, repair/healing, and asexual reproduction. The stages of mitosis are prophase, metaphase, anaphase, and telophase, followed by cytokinesis where the cell cytoplasm is divided. During mitosis, the chromosomes condense and duplicate, then separate so that each daughter cell receives an identical copy.
