This document contains information about comparing cells to factories by analogizing different cell organelles to parts of a factory. It discusses comparing the cell wall to security gates, cell membrane to doors, nucleus to the CEO/boss, cytoplasm to the factory floor, endoplasmic reticulum to an assembly line, ribosomes to factory workers, vacuole to a kitchen, lysosomes to custodial staff, and mitochondria to a generator. Students are then asked to create their own cell analogy comparing a cell to something other than a factory, illustrate it visually, and write a 1-2 page response explaining cells, organelles, differences between plant and animal cells, and their chosen analogy.
