2. Stage 1.
The idea for our CD
came from Kanye West's
college dropout CD,
where the character/
mascott of the bear
dominated the CD.
Throughout our video or main
character is Tony Blair, so we
started experimenting with a
photograph of him. We took the
original picture of the mask that
we used in the video.
3. Stage 2.
We then cropped it to remove the
background to give us a blank canvas.
We used photoshop to adjust the
contrast and exposure whilst making his
face lighter.
4. Stage 3.
We then put this image on a black cd
to see how the layout would work.
This was important as the we didn’t
want to hole in the middle of the CD
to cover his eyes, however because of
the images large forehead we could
use this area without ruining the
facial features.
We experimented with background
colours and asked a panel of students
which was most appropriate. Black was
the favourite as they said it was
classic.
5. Stage 4.
We then added an arch shape
of text ( this was suitable
as the image took up most
of the cd) and layered all
the letters to position
them separately. From our
research of CD designs we
noticed the majority of
them had 1-5 different
logo's on them either
saying what disk it is or
some sort of company
security name. We found a
compact disk logo and
layered it onto our design
to make it look more
authentic.
6. Stage 5.
This stage was difficult as I
had to cut an image from a real
CD then layer it onto the main
image. The main challenge was
trying to get the CD hole
central whilst not covering the
figure’s eyes.
We then experimented with the
layout and moved the compact disc
logo to make it more balanced. We
also blacked out his eyes to make
it look more sinister and less
like a mask and to get rid of the
white holes.
This was our final
design.
