71% of these BYOD schemes are unofficial.
Research by BT and Cisco (Beyond Your Device, June 2013) showed that
76% of IT decision makers believe BYOD should be exploited to drive up
efficiency and productivity.
53% of all live BYOD schemes are enabling access
to PIM applications only, with 11% exclusively for
access to LOB applications; 35% enable both.
6. Mobile Working Report
Line of Business projects
Paperless NHS by 2018.
National Mobile Health Worker Project
(NMHWP) results published in 2013
looked at the benefits and efficiencies
which could be achieved through
clinicians having access to relevant data
at the point of contact with patients.
The report concludes that …
“significant increases in productivity can
be achieved, as demonstrated by huge
increases in contact activity”
as well as cost savings per clinician per
year of around £20,000.
8. Mobile Working Report
Failures …
Projects are failing because of
lack of integration with existing
systems, 38%.
Security concerns have not
played a major role in project
failure, only 11%.
… and barriers
Two biggest barriers cited are cost and
cultural change/staff adoption, both
59%.
Lack of integration, 41%.
34% state that lack of resources is a
barrier to implementing mobile
working: they simply don’t have the
technical staff available to work on it.
This indicates a huge pressure on IT
staff.

BYOD …
Access to LOB applications represents true mobile working. As more schemes are introduced and confidence grows in their success, we will see an increase in the use of personal devices for work-related applications rather than just providing access to calendars and emails.
LOB projects …
Lots of Community Nursing (e.g. Northern Devon NHS)

Benefits …
See graph … 93% efficiency, 88% reduced admin and paper …
NOTE also improved work/life balance
Some good extra customer quotes.
Failures …
By far the biggest reason for
a mobile project failing is
the quality of the data network,
cited by 60% of respondents
The next most popular reason for project failure is
wrong device selection, cited by 51%
Cultural resistance 47%
Management & MDM …
Graphs self-explanatory … but
Interesting is …
data network quality … NOT GREAT
Device selection
