Front
Suitable for genre – The genre of my album is sing a song writer/soul artists, it was inspired
by Adele’s album ‘21’. I think the black and white adds to genre as it makes it look more
soulful and slow. But I do think that it is hard to label what genre the CD is just by looking at
the front cover as it is a simple image and the genre I picked is hard to style for.
What works well? – I like that there isn't a lot of detail on the front cover but is still eye
catching because of the simplistic effect I used. I also think that the font works well with the
black and white as it stands out more and makes it easier to read.
What didn’t work well? – I don’t like that it isn't obvious what genre the CD is, because
there isn't any props or information that gives it away.
What was difficult? – I found it hard knowing what to take pictures of, what to include in the
shot and what made the CD look realistic and what would sell. I didn’t want the picture on
the front cover to look over dramatic but I also wanted it to be eye catching.
What have you learnt? – I have learnt to spend more time planning and researching other CD
covers as this would have helped me design a better and more relevant cover,
More money and more time – I would probably do a shoot in a professional studio so the
camera quality is better and the image is clearer.
Compare – I can compare this CD to Adele’s albums because of the simplicity of the image
but also Lana Del Ray’s because the image is soft and there aren't any harsh details.

Suitable for genre –The back carries on with the soul genre as the simple colours add a
dramatic and more meaningful effect.
What works well? – I like that the colour scheme runs throughout the whole CD so it looks
more professional and that I have used the same fonts as on the front cover.
What didn’t work well? – I had to edit the picture as it was to dark and you wouldn’t be able
to read the song names, so I had to over edit the picture and use a bright background which I
think makes it look un-professional.
What was difficult? –Again I didn’t know what to take pictures of and what I wanted to
background to look like as I didn’t research back covers, only fronts.
What have you learnt? – To also research the back covers as this would have helped me
create a more professional looking back cover.
More money and more time – Again I would probably do a shoot in a professional studio so
the camera quality is better and the image is clearer.
Compare – I can compare this CD to Adele’s back cover as they are both black and white
and use a simple font.
