The early forms of data processing machines were mechanical made from indigenous materials due to absence of electricity and inadequacy of industrial technologies in these eras. The machines are:
Vacuum Tubes as the electronic components. They occupied a very large space of area and performed computations in milliseconds. In Vacuum Tube machine languages are used.
Transistors, it replaced the first-generation of compute Vacuum Tube. In Transistors the assembly language and batch processing operating system are used, Magnetic cores and magnetic tapes were used as storage.
it replaced the second- generation compute Transistors. They performed computation in Nanoseconds. It used heigh-level languages. In this generation, remote processing, time-sharing, multi-programming operating system were used.
Components of the first generation that occupied a very large room are now fitted in single chip with a size smaller than a palm of the hand. The computers are more powerful, compact, reliable and affordable. As a result, personal computer (PC) where designed for the use of home owners. The evolution led to the information of networks and the internet. Other microprocessor – based IT products started to proliferate in the market.
All computers have two (2) basic parts known as the hardware and software. It is very important for these two parts to interact effectively in order that the computer will perform the task requested by the user.
Today, new generation of computers are installed with Wi-Fi that can be remotely accessed through internet connection.
