ColdBox is an open source, event-driven MVC framework for ColdFusion that uses conventions over configurations. ColdBox 4 updates the framework to be lighter, faster and more modular by removing features like the default ORM into optional modules. It also adds a CLI for management and focuses on trends like native performance, NoSQL, modularity and CLI workflows.

Intro to ColdBox MVC at Japan CFUG

Case Study Telefonica

ColdFusion Summit 2016 - Bringing Order to the Chaos: Take the MVC Plunge
If you are anything like me, you’ve been developing largely procedural-style ColdFusion applications. Over time, these become tangled messes filled with includes, custom tags, and components. The Model-View-Controller (MVC) design pattern brings order to the chaos. I resisted moving to the MVC design pattern for many years, despite the availability of several excellent and powerful community-supported MVC frameworks (FW/1, ColdBox, CFWheels). When faced with significant refactoring of our legacy ColdFusion-based applications, I decided it was time to take the MVC plunge with the FW/1 framework – and I couldn’t be happier that I did!
This presentation will explain and share:
• What the MVC design pattern is and what problems it solves,
• How FW/1’s convention-based approach can bring structure to an application,
• What dependency injection is and how it simplifies the “model” portion of applications,
• How to progressively refactor real-world procedural code into MVC-style code, and
• Some tools that can simplify the development process.

SOLID Programming with Portable Class Libraries
Developers often don't pay attention to code portability until they need to target multiple platforms. However, large amount of non-portable code often hints about violation of clean code principles, so it is worth investigating which part of the source code base are platform-specific and for what reasons.
In this session we will give an overview of portable class libraries, show how to extract PCL components from a real-world application and go through typical challenges that are faced when writing portable code. We will present the original tool that analyzes assemblies for portability compliance and can be used as a guard to prevent mixing business logic with infrastructure-specific functionality. Finally we will demonstrate how PCLs help targeting platforms such as Windows Store, Android and iOS.

You write any sort of logic you want, just like you would with bash scripts, Node, or Python, except you can do it with your favorite language. Task Runners come with dozens of helpful utilities for downloading files, interacting with the user, printing formatted text, and interacting with the file system. Task Runners only require CommandBox to be installed and work great inside Docker as well. We'll cover many of the features available including using modules and lifecycle methods!

A data warehouse is a central relational database that contains all measurements about a business or an organisation. This data comes from a variety of heterogeneous data sources, which includes databases of any type that back the applications used by the company, data files exported by some applications, or APIs provided by internal or external services.
But designing a data warehouse correctly is a hard task, which requires gathering information about the business processes that need to be analysed in the first place. These processes must be translated into so-called star schemas, which means, denormalised databases where each table represents a dimension or facts.
