I admire the fact that Scout now trusts her father. I know that it is a very nice trait to have.
When I trust my father, I know that I can always count on him and that he will always be there
for me. Whenever any of my friends have a problem, I always suggest talking to their fathers
about it. I feel that girls my age have a stronger relationship with their fathers than their mothers.
Personally, I feel closer to my dad than my mom. I also adore how Scout tries to reassure her
friend. It is a very nice characteristic to have. People always go to others who know how to give
them peace. My father always reassures me like Atticus that It is not time to worry yet . 8. A merry

colored people are when it comes to dark skinned ones. During the trial, Atticus gave enough details
to figure out that Tom Robinson is innocent. If he were a white person, he would have been found
innocent. This, again, shows the development of the theme of prejudice. Tom was sure he is

What Role Did Thucydides Play In Peloponnesian War
Thucydides was born 460 B.C and died 395. He was born in Alimos greece and died in Athens
greece.Thucydides was the author of the history of the Peloponnesian war and what he said it
started because Athens was to greedy.According to History.com Thucydides chronicled nearly 30
years of war and tension between spartaand Athens.Thucydides is important for our world because
without the Peloponnesian warare democracy wouldn t be the same like it was back then we

that helped even more.Life would be definitely different if we didn t have this person because
this guy was mainly the reason why we had this war to begin with and are democracy would look

Homer s Iliad And Thucydides s History Of The...
Homer s Iliad and Thucydides History of the Peloponnesian War ask if death and philotД“s can exist
simultaneously. In the respective texts, that which Achilles and the Athenians encounter prove they
will not exist in harmony for human nature is incapable of controlling passion and the enemy of
anything superior (HPW 3.84). When Achillesdoes not receive his earned honor after battle and
death s toll from the war blurs the Athenians identity, their grief causes apathy. Achilles withdraws
from his own people with a rage, black and murderous causing his own army to buckle which
parallels the Athenians who at Pylos become obsessed with the idea...to attack Spartans (HPW
4.34). Before these cruel lapses in judgment, both desire... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ultimately, all Achilles has left is death, and all surrounding Athens is death.
In death s atrocity, Achilles and the Athenians turn towards their self interests in hopes to regain
control and dignity. Achilles withdraws from the army in hopes they will recognize his worth,
thus restoring honor to him. The Greeks were stricken with unendurable grief yet his proud
spirit kept him from letting go of his anger. (Il. 9.4, 259). His inability to understand his
mortality and resulting lack of philotД“s pitched countless souls of heroes into Hades dark (Il.
1.3 4). Falling into fits of self pity, Achilles is unable to recognize others sufferings, even of his
own people. He complains to his mother that Agamemnon has taken away [his] prize and
dishonored him and playing a lyre by the shore, away from the war displaying death s reality (Il.
1.370). In his isolating mД“nis, Achilles hardens into an apathetic death like figure. Similarly, the
Athenians begin to lack pity as their city turned towards unprecedented lawlessness,... acts of self
indulgence, and immorality during the plague (HPW 2.53). The Athenians even abandon their
own people in fear of falling ill as well. Their civilization reveals it shallow nature as they result to
only considering present desires as honorable. In the face

Gender and Movie Selection Essay example
Gender and Movie Selection
Introduction:
A very diverse, broad, and extensive industry is the filmmaking industry. However, the unique
aspect of the industry is that it is so expansive in all of the different categories and types of
movies, but yet each film is individualized. A certain characteristic of a movie may appeal to one
person and not another. Such characteristics may not only appeal to an individual but to a certain
group of people. Could it be that characteristics of a film appeal to either the male gender or the
female gender? Is there a difference in the category of movie that a male chooses as opposed to
one that a female chooses? Such questions prove to be very interesting and ... Show more content on

During the observation, I observed ten males and ten females in the video section of Giant
Eagle at 7:00pm on a Friday night. All of the twenty subjects were of college age and appeared
to be at the store alone. I specially looked for the type of movie each person would select. By
doing this observation, I anticipated to see what people really choose. Since the subjects were
unaware that I was watching them, they had no pressure to select a certain type of movie and
could chose freely. In other ways of collecting data such as a survey or interview, people may be
reluctant to be honest about some details. Through observation, there were no doubts if the subject
was being dishonest because they freely chose the movie without even realizing I was watching
them.
A second route that I chose to collect data was to administer a survey to ten college age people.
Of these ten people, five of them were females and five of them were males. The survey was given
to these people while they were in their college dorm rooms. There were six questions on the
survey, including a gender question, how many movies does the subject watch in an average month,
and what are these movies classified as, adventure or romance/romantic comedy. The final two
questions dealt with who the subject mostly watches movies with and if they normally get to
choose the movie when watching one

While the liberals were at force, it wasn t in their intentions to keep fabricating the route, so they
backed off on the creation of the track. During Alexander Mackenzie s cabinet years he invested
majority of his time in planning the best route for the CPR. Mackenzie s idea in regards to the

thought of building a line that would cross the nation partly by rail and partly by water20. Luckily
this plan wasn t carried out due to the fact that the CPR s budget wasn t high enough.

The, And, By Stephen Krasner And John Ruggie s...
Many of the authors of the readings for this week seem to be writing past each other. While all of
these readings come from a 10 year time span and discuss multilateralism and/or sovereignty, there
are stark distinctions in who or what is being discussed as the referent object of international
relations or world order. This begs the question, can we read, for instance, Stephen Krasner and
Robert Cox in dialogue with each other or are they writing on the same general topic, but from such
distinct frameworks that the discussion ultimately collapses? Even if the discussion does collapse,
is there something worthwhile in attempting to engage these authors? This paper attempts to place
the authors from this weeks readings in conversation. In doing so, it becomes clear that Krasner and
John Ruggie s conceptions of international relationsare shortsighted and problematic. However,
Craig Murphy, Sol Picciotto, Cox, and Claire Cutler all have beneficial insights into global
governance. In particular, Cox s contention that multilateralism has been effective in
institutionalizing a liberal economic order that should not be understood as synonymous with
international cooperation aids us in our consideration of world order. Krasner defines the sovereign
statemodel as a system of political authority based on territory, mutual recognition, autonomy, and
control (2001, 18). Krasner uses this definition, not to promote the sovereign statemodel as the
global modus operandi (or so

World after is a great teen read. It has action, suspense, humor, and even a little bit of romance. It
appeals to everyone and is far from boring. The book if full of fight scenes. For example, when
the scorpions attack the Resistance base camp. They catch everyone off guard and pick off many
of the people. Penryn and Raffe try to stop the angles evil plan. There is suspense when Penryn
and her mom get captured by the angels and taken to the island where they keep people prisoner.
While there, Penryn tries to form a plan to first escape and then stop the angel s plan. Another
suspenseful scene is when Penryn disguises herself as a servant to the angels and is nearly killed.
There is some Romance between Raffe and Penryn when they eventually reunite. The witty banter
between the two makes the book that much better. World after should definitely be recommended

The Past And Present Defining Characteristics Of The Sami...
Evidence suggests human presense in parts of Norway, Sweden, Finland, and even Russia over
9,000 years ago (Joessefson, 142). However, it would not be until thousands of years later that a
highly unique and successful tribe would form, known as the Sami. While many Sami have
assimilated into modern European culture, central traits still exists within this indigiouns group
native to the Sapmi region. Some Sami still practice modes of subsistence, systems of marriage,
kinship, social organization, and religion common to their ancestors. However, today, the Sami are
faced with social issues distinct from those of their predesesors, such as pressures to conform to
modern society, economic struggles, and in some cases, loss of community. It is important to
evaluate both the past and present defining characteristics of the Sami peoples to fully understand
their culture. One of the most well known characterisitics of the Sami is their skill in reindeer
pastoralism. Though, pastoralism was not their initial mode of substiance, instead, the Sami began
as a hunter gatherer society. As northern Europe is subject to extreme and lengthy winters, the Sami
caught and harvested what they could. Beaver, reindeer, and fish were among the most commonly
hunted by the Sami (Bergman, other 27). Artic rose, a plant rich with vitamins, was a popular
edible plant that was also central to the Sami diet (Loeffler, 70). As well, geographical positioning
distinguished the diets of some Sami bands

Critical Analysis Of Langston Hughes s Note On Commercial...
Even after the Harlem Renaissance was off the forefront of the nation s mind, Langston Hughes
continued to comment on the demoralization that white people have historically done unto the
African American community. In his 1940 poem, Note on Commercial Theater , Hughes looked to
the writers for Broadway and the presentations of commercial theater and saw the appropriation of
black culture and perversion of music introduced by the Harlemites. These writers made the music
whiter while stripping the credit from those who established it. Despite not having the recognition
of white peopleat that time, Hughes still knew that someday somebody ll / Stand up and talk about
me, / And write about me even if it would only be himself (Note on Commercial Theatre 12 14).
Somehow, somewhere, someone would always be able to identify the wrongs white people inflict
on others and be able to pay homage to the struggle while still celebrating their culture. His
awareness of the ability of the black community to join together and acknowledge progression
demonstrates his confidence in that community as a whole. It does not matter whether or not his
own words are heard in his time, but instead that someone else will take them to heart and further
the progression towards a better situation. The promise of a future ties the entire black community
together towards more opportunities for growth.
Angelou herself was merely twelve years old at the time of Hughes publishing Note on Commercial

Piracy in Somalia has come about due to years of internal fighting and weakened government.
With the overthrow of the president in 1991, Somalia has been a complete anarchy with only the
laws of rival clans who have been in power. Though long before that the country has been in
constant war between the people of the country because money and food have been always been
scarce. Small amounts of money have been made through some exports but the real money came
from the fishing off the coast. Recently because of the lack of laws commercial fisherman from

that hasn t happened more than once so why wouldn t they continue? If they don t pirate they

and only having to do it a few times to be set for live A gang takes people hostage and hopes it
will make them millionaires because the government of those hostages will step in and pay the
ransom (The effects of the Somali pirates on aid). There is nothing stopping the pirates if people
are just giving them what they want as soon as they ask for it. The pirates have created a unique
system that has easily allowed them to continue to pirate with little conflict between one another.
The former fishers, military, and technicians have joined together and mutually have all the skills
needed to pirate including; difficulties of the navigation and handling ships, weapon and fighting
training, and high tech equipment. They happen to be in a spot where lots of cargo ships have to
go through as well as Somalis in port cities that tell the pirates when these ships are coming
through. The pirates have a good distribution of power and profits and, without a greedy leader,
everyone gets paid and no one rebels which could cause the whole system to collapse from the
inside. They

Domestic Terrorism vs. International Terrorism
The acts of terrorism can affect the lives of many people and is not limited to those who receive
physical scaring, but also people who have an emotional connection to those who are injured, and
quite possibly an entire nation. To distinguish between domestic and international terrorismone
must first define terrorism. It seems from region to region there are slight variations of what
qualifies as terrorism. The U.S. Code of Federal Regulations defines terrorism as the unlawful use
of force and violence against persons or property to intimidate or coerce a government, the civilian
population, or any segment thereof, in furtherance of or social objectives (FBI Terrorism 2002
2005). The Federal Bureau of Investigation further distinguishes terrorism by dividing them into
two distinct categories: Domestic and International terrorism. Domestic Terrorism is categorized by
the FBI as occurring primarily within the territorial jurisdiction of the United States. These acts are
violent in nature and aim toward the intimidation of a government and its people. Domestic and
International terrorism can also be further distinguished by considering the origin of the individuals
or groups who commit the acts. Domestic Terrorism involves people who are natural born citizens
or those who primarily operate in the

Social Activism In Palumbo s Social Work Movement
Drawing back into the historical context, Palumbo acknowledges social work s advancement as a
result of drawing upon various discipline and one being activism. As social work inevitably evolves
with the contemporary society and informed by radical or anti oppressive views of social
transformation, it created an unsettling atmosphere that attempts to merge the two theoretical
approaches that does not seem to fit. Participants identified as activists conflicted with social work
suggest that the role of social work is a professionalized practice that are oftentimes the same
people bestowing those oppressions. Other participants identifying as social workers expressed
conflict with activism as a result of structural conditions including surveillancing and
managerialized practices that limits their work as agents of social change.
Participants also expressed the professionalization of social work education and its contradictions to
the role of activism. Some participants testified that social work education gave them language on
activism while others suggested that the dominance of professionalization discourse can undermine
radical pedagogy. Palumbo draws upon Wong s writing which unites these voices by valuing
diversity and the importance of facilitating meaningful dialogues between the intersecting and
conflicting discursive frames as a part of constructing a just society (Wong, 2004). She further
reminds us that social work does not stand in isolation but is to stand with

Reasons Why College Athletes Should Not Be Paid
In college divisions sports, athletes receive scholarships and academic grants. Instead of getting
money athletes receive scholarships to help pay for their education. Many college athletes don t
receive scholarships and things of that nature but, they shouldn t be payed to play sports,
because students go to college to receive an education and most athletes receive scholarships that
offer free tuition, free room and board, and they also receive other stipends to help toward books
and other basic need. In college division 1 sports, at least 56% of the athletes receive some type
of scholarship. In division 2 sports, at least 61% of the athletes receive some level of athletic aid,
and in division 3 sports, 82% of the athletes receive academic grants and need based scholarships.

Effective Time Management The Foundation of Success Upon returning to college, the mature
student (any student over the age of 24) soon realizes that their ability to manage time effectively
directly impacts their learning experience and their family life. Unlike traditional students, the
mature student may have a spouse, children and a full time job that is necessary for them to
survive financially. Adults with families will readily agree that their family alone places serious
demands on their time. When adding the responsibility of school, it becomes even more difficult to

central computer routes phone calls to the cordless phone that was checked out at the beginning

Michael Henchard Foil
According to the Online Dictionary for Literary Devices, The etymology of the term foil
testifies the aforementioned assertion as the word foil is taken from the practice of backing
gems with foil (tool) so that they shine more brightly. Throughout The Mayor of Casterbridge,
Thomas Hardy sets up multiple pairs of characters as foils to contrast them and express his
opinion of what attributes a person should have. Michael Henchard, who cares more for personal
gain, is a foil to Richard Newson, who cares for his wife and daughter. Elizabeth Jane Newson
outshines Lucetta Templeman with her belief that a person s character is more valuable than
outward appearance; in a similar sense, Donald Farfrae surpasses Henchard in character and shows

However, Henchard s plan fails because, A number of people had heroically gathered in the
field, but by three o clock Henchard discerned that his project was doomed to end in failure...
But where are the folk? said Henchard, after the lapse of half an hour, during which time only
two men and a woman had stood up to dance. The shops are all shut. Why don t they come? They
are at Farfrae s affair in the West Walk (103 104). This event is the first major conflict that occurs
between Henchard and Farfrae, and this starts to develop the characters as foils. While Henchard
hosts an event in the rain, Farfrae hosts an event indoors that is popular; this shows Hardy s
belief that intelligence is a positive trait to have. Hardy shows that Farfrae uses logic and gains
favor in the town while Henchard does not and starts to become unpopular. Also defining Henchard
and Farfrae as foils, Farfrae shows self control and understands how to control his anger. After
Henchard embarrasses himself in front of Royalty, Farfrae meets him and chastises him by saying,
You insulted Royalty, Henchard; and twas my duty, as the chief magistrate, to stop you. Royalty be

An Evaluation of Case Studies and Their Contribution to...
Cognitive psychology is the study of the brains internal processes that guide behaviour; to study
cognition, psychologists examine case studies of patients with damaged brains that can infer areas,
and functions involved in particular processes. Patient studies have provided insights into the
processes that take place within our minds, and have enabled psychologists to create models, which
can be tested and fractionated. Cognitive neuropsychology has developed from cognitive
psychologyto become a discipline in its own right; it investigates the function and structures of the
brain involved in cognitive processes and should not be confused with cognitive neuroscience,

Studying unseen processes presents difficulties, it would not be practical or ethical to open a
persons head to try to unravel the processes that take place whilst they make a cup of tea or drive
their car to work. Although examining processes presents difficulties, studying patients who have
sustained brain damage can provide insights into parts that play a role in cognitive processes.
Findings from case studies are extrapolated to the general population to provide an insight into
normal cognition. An early example and often cited case study is Phineas Gage who suffered
damage to his frontal lobe because of an accident in 1848; prior to the accident, he was friendly
and dependable, however after the accident, he became unreliable and his social skills suffered,
this suggests the frontal lobe is involved in planning and social skills. Damasio (1994, (cited in
Jansari, 2010)) recreated damage sustained by Gage, after a patient exhibited the same changes in
behaviour after undergoing surgery to remove a tumour in the frontal lobe. The recreation
confirmed the suggestions made at the time of Phineas Gage, thus providing an insight into how a
part of the brain the frontal lobe in this case is involved in cognitive functioning. The study of
Phineas Gage is an early example of the kind of studies that are used in

The Effects Of Energy Drinks On The Human Body

your whole body is affected including you brain, your bloodstream, your heart, and your skin.
Energy drinks are really bad for you if you drink it a lot; they say it could affect how you work out
because energy drinks lead to sugar crashes. You don t want to work out and in the middle of your

Do not avoid stress. You cannot run away from it. Even if you think you can, you will eventually
reach a dead end or it will catch up with you. When that happens, you will only end up with more
stress than you can originally handle.
Stress is a fact of life, and no one can avoid it entirely. The most that you can do is either... Show

First, it can relieve you of the stress that you are already experiencing. Second, it conditions you and
strengthens you so that you can endure more stress.
The ideal average time for exercise is a total of 150 minutes of moderate intensity activity spread
out over the days of the week. The physical exertion will strengthen your heart, burn extra calories,
improve breathing and circulation, release your body s natural stress relievers, lifts your mood,
and keeps you in tip top shape.
Balanced Nutrition
Food can influence your ability to adjust to excessive stress. If you improperly feed yourself
either by eating the wrong food or by eating the right food in inappropriate amounts you will
become vulnerable to stress. Make sure that you are getting your daily requirement of go, grow,
and glow foods. There is no universal formula for this. Each person has different requirements,
depending on the person s overall health, current medical condition, and level of physical activity.
Proper nutrition also means moderation with alcohol and caffeine intake, as well as avoiding
cigarette smoking. Alcohol, caffeine, and nicotine have been known to jack up stress and anxiety
rather than lower them.

By getting a veteran to talk about what they have experienced in the military is hard because
they see and experience things that no human being should every have to go through. Some of
our veterans see and experience things on a deployment that no one should ever experience,
some people have no choice but to put a bullet in a child s head because they are strapped with a
bomb and have to decide whose life is worth more the child s life or the life of themselves and
the fellow military members. Other people go through hazing of forms that our not seen on the

it is not seen but the mental, emotional and sometimes physical scaring can been seen in a

and to meet people who come out of the military who have not gone through one of those two
events who do not suffer from one form or another of PTSD is rare. PTSD is a side effect from
our loved ones see and experience in the military and to the older generations it is sometime know

Greensleeves by Alan Spence Greensleeves by Alan Spence is a short story describing the life of
an elderly lady living alone on the top floor of high rise flats in Glasgow. Spence creates a
character readers feel sympathy for through isolation and lonliness, themes that run prominently
throughout the story. The title of the story Greensleeves is significant in developing the story. The
elderly lady hears the song playing on an ice cream van, but it s not as pleasant as she remembers.
She could only just recognise the tune for what it had once been. Not that coarse parody, stilted

The Yellow Wall Essay
The Yellow Wall was published in 1892 by Charlotte Perkins Stetson. The story was written as a
semi autobiographical short story about an unnamed narrator that describes the treatment of women
during this time frame. It takes place in a county rental home where her husband has taken her for
some treatment from an illness that she supposedly has. Through ethos, pathos, and logos I will
review the story and show the reader that in fact the unnamed narrator was not mentally ill when
she arrived at the county home but did in fact become mentally ill through the treatment that was
delivered. The story starts with our no name narrator and her husband coming to a county home that
he has rented for three months to provide her with relaxation... Show more content on

Should Professional Athletes Get High Salaries
Athletes and Professional Entertainers Deserving High Salaries?
Many professional athletes and entertainers earn large sums of money. Do you agree or disagree
with these individuals making this kind of money? I agree with them earning high salaries
because people have the choice to pay money to see them. These people are not in it for the
money. They do it because this is what they love to do. They deserve the money and need it.
They worked hard every day to do what is need to keep on doing their career. They should not be
punish or criticized for doing what they want. They deserve the money for their hard work,
dedication, and people should not get mad at them and keep paying them.

money, but that s how much it cost for them to keep on with their job. They deserve it because

Athletes have been working years to get as good as there are. They also wouldn t be able to be
where they are. They deserve this money for the years of work they have done and they need the
money for the financial expenses of going on tour or having an injury.
In conclusion, I agree that these people deserve their high salaries they receive. They don t only

I Really Enjoyed This Podcast By Rogier Van Der Heide
I really enjoyed this podcast by Rogier van der Heide. I am forever wandering around my house
turning lights off and it s not just a money/planet saving action. Darkness is wonderful and
important, it is the reason I put dimmers on almost every light switch on the plans for our new home.
Without darkness, the concept of light doesn t exist or at best without the contrast of darkness, light
is not recognisable. The beauty of light could not be seen. Furthermore, the beauty and peace that
comes from darkness wouldn t be so if it weren t for the contrast of light. I have also just watched
the TED talk about introversion, identifying that the yings and the yangs are both required to have
a complete experience.
Heide speaks holistically of light quality. Light quality is not just about the bland, measurable
approach we take ensuring we meet the imposed standards required for lighting particular spaces. I
am left wondering why it is that we choose to power up a building with artificial light rather than
use the light from the sun where possible. There are so many ways in which we can do this, why
are we so reluctant? Is it easier to just thoughtlessly do what was once probably considered amazing
and innovative? The more I think about it the more I would consider grid like lighting design
senseless, unhealthy and unimaginative! Also, the sunlight is free, if that s not good enough reason
to utilise it then I don t know what is!
Furthermore, are we actually doing our eye

Sexual Education Is Important Today
Sexuality plays a major role in everyone s life, and it is a part of being human regardless of the
gender, age, race, or religion. Everyone has their way of expressing their sexuality, either with
thoughts and fantasy, or with their sexual partners. Sexuality could be controlled or ruled by the
person s desires, and whatever they fantasize is what fits their hidden personality. Also, religion
and education could control their thoughts into disliking some acts of the sexual activities, like
anal or oral sex, some religions or parents try to put them in the X zone; which make the person
grow up with the attitude of forbidding those sexual acts or seeing them as unacceptable in
religious and psychological perspectives. Education is something important to everyone in their
lifetime, sexual education is important today because it teaches an important topic of sexuality.
Due to all the sexual illnesses that invaded the world even in the Middle East, considered as a
province environment. Alfred Kinsey started the sexual education when he founded the Institute
for Sex Research, in 1947 in Indiana University. Even though sex wasn t a common subject at
that time, he was brave enough to research and get the education that people needed for a better
and healthy sexual life. Also, If I was Alfred Kinsey in this time period, I would need to explore the
body image issues. Body image issue is when a woman looks in the mirror and all she sees are

Public Safety Is A Discipline Fit For Certain Individuals
Public safety is a discipline fit for certain individuals. The type of work they do is different from
one day to the next. Thinking on your toes, adaptability, having authority, and enthusiasm are just a
few traits that are necessary to be successful. The term public safety refers to the welfare and
protection of the general public. The goal of public safety officials is to provide protection and
prevention of dangers affecting the public like crimes, man made disasters, and natural disasters.
One such person who fits the mold of an emergency manager or public safety official is Mr.

Emotional stability is the ability to tolerate frustration and stress. Being able to be well adjusted
and have the psychological maturity to handle situations are required to have emotional stability

and aircraft during a potentially volatile storm. Mr. Holley was constantly being asked what if
scenario questions by leadership, and without hesitation he was able to come up with a clear,
concise plan of attack. Enthusiasm is another trait shown by leaders like Mr. Holley, and
enthusiastic leaders are usually seen as active, expressive, and energetic. Optimism is a key to
being enthusiastic, along with being open to change. Generally, being quick and alert are also
required. This type of storm was so severe, we did not have enough facilities to house all of the
equipment on base. Mr. Holley calculated a plan to evacuate all the aircraft without hardened
facilities to another location. His plan was evaluated and executed within the allotted time frame
and with meticulousness. Compulsiveness is precision and control in social interactions. Being
protective of their integrity and reputation while also maintaining social awareness and foresight
are important qualities of this trait. Mr. Holley s precision was required when he handled

The painting The Third of May 1808 commemorates a dark moment in history and portrays the
brutality from France. It represents a bloody encounter that took place between the French army
and the people of Madrid who rose up against them. 20th century art critic Robert Hughes wrote,
Most of the victims have faces. The killers do not. This is one of the most often noted aspects of
the Third of May, and rightly so: with this painting, the modern image of war as anonymous
killing is born, and a long tradition of killing as ennobled spectacle comes to its overdue end.
Framing an important moments in any history requires a vivid way to capture the moment and
with this painting it was perfectly done to almost feel as if you were there. Not just history but
even the beauty of nature can be captured by art. A painting such as Starry Night by Vincent Van
Gogh captures the mystery and beauty of the night s sky. This painting shows the view while he
was in an Asylum and was done entirely from his memory. That s not even the most amazing thing
about this painting, he even accidently painted Venus s turbulent flows before it was
discovered.Starry night s lights flicker from the way your brain reacts to it creating a sense of

Concept Of Self Driving Cars
Introduction
The concept of self driving cars has been a dream of humankind since the invention of the first
self propelled vehicle. The notion of boarding a vehicle without having to be attentive or vigilant
has driven the automotive industry over the years to seek an alternative to the driver dependent
car. Years of research and testing have led to major advancements in the technology necessary to
operate these cars, leading many to believe that autonomous cars will be a reality in the very near
future. As is the case with many innovations, however, a myriad of potential complications have
been exposed along the way. Despite many possible upsides, the design, safety, and ethical
concerns regarding the technology to be incorporated in these machines are the major hurdles that
need to be cleared in order make autonomous cars feasible. These complications have begged the
question, are self driving cars truly in the best interest of society? An analysis of self driving
vehicles exhibits the inherent complications associated with the autonomous technology required
to operate these machines.
Emergence of Autonomous Vehicles
Cars are not the only mode of transportation that people have sought to make autonomous. In fact,
cars are in the latter part of self propelled vehicles to be equipped with automated control. In his
article, Where to? A History of Autonomous Vehicles , Mark Weber postulates that the first vehicle
to have some type of automated steering was the sailboat,

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Stochastic Model
3.1 Deterministic models There are two types of model that we are going to look at, firstly the
deterministic model and then the stochastic model. [23]A deterministic model is used in a situation
where the result can be established straightforwardly from a series of conditions. It has no
stochastic elements and both the input and the outputs are determined conclusively. On the other
hand a stochastic model is one where the cause and effect relationship is stochastically or randomly
determined. Therefore the system having stochastic element is generally not solved analytically
and hence there are several cases for which it is difficult to build an intuitive perspective. When
simulating a stochastic model a random number is usually generated... Show more content on

The Similarities Between Lucius And The Tale Of Cupid And...
Many historical and mythological accounts of Graeco Roman history in the classical period,
involved tales of magic, worship of the gods, and emphasised the value society placed on devotion
to religion. These societal beliefs and practices became evident in the literature of Greek and Roman
societies, where its use, reach, and consequences was illustrated. In the only surviving Roman novel
of the 2nd century AD, ApuleiusMetamorphoses, readers encounter a Greek nobleman, named
Lucius, whose insatiable curiosity leads him to explore magic. His over enthusiasm to intimately
experience and learn about magic, accidentally causes his transformation into an ass, causing him to
be subjected to a range of vulgar, exploitive, and lustful debaucheries on his path to become human
again.
This essay will explore how Lucius s insatiable curiosity and thirst for forbidden knowledge causes
him to become a victim of magic, and how religion delivers him from its dangerous realms. Finally,
this essay will comment on the contested approaches to interpreting the final book of the novel.
In Books I X of the novel, Lucius, the protagonist, is revealed to have an incredible curiosity of
forbidden knowledge, and that adds to his determinism to experience magic himself. It is important

The Milgram Obedience Study
Throughout history, many individuals have followed cruel leaders such as Adolf Hitler, Idi
Amin Dada, Leopold II of Belgium, who are responsible for a combined total of over 19,000,000
casualties (McLeod, Mishkov). A leader is supposed to be a person with confidence, skills,
knowledge, and power; however Adolf Hitler was a corrupt leader who was able to convince the
Germans that all Jews were bad and that all negative things happen because of the Jews. Adolf
Hitler was even able to reinterpret the Bible and make the Germans believe he was right. Humans
more easily obey a leader who is older, has a high education, and has authoritative power.
Another example is the The Milgram Obedience Studies (1963 1965). The Milgram
Obedience study was a experiment help by Stanley Milgram, subjects were told that they were
participating in a study on the effect of punishment on memory. One participant in the study the

International Relations And American Foreign Policy
International Relations and American Foreign Policy are both strong qualities that help define
America as a nation. Not only that, but a strong nation that has the reputation to not be trifled with.
The concept of International Relations is so much broader than most will ever know and be aware
of. It is such a vast field that almost anything can fall under it. However, there are four main
qualities of our foreign policyand international relations that define the process, and that is
statesmanship, military and war, international economic policy, and cultural exchange. These four
are the core parts of International Relations and America s Foreign Policy.
Statesmanship is basically the ability, qualifications, and practice of managing public affairs. The
three most important qualities of statesmanship are a vision, a moral compass, and the wisdom to
execute. Aristotle believed that statesmanship was for the betterment of the community. As the
city state comes first, there obviously needs to be a vision for the community, a moral compass to
follow and the wisdom of determining and making the execution of that plan. Statesmanship helps
lead a country to greatness. The Bible also has its own spin of statesmanship. For example,
Proverbs 21:3 says, To do righteousness and justice is more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice.
This verse alone shows that the essence of politics is not separated from morality. That is one
reason why a moral compass is one of the most important

There are many factors that contribute to the transformation of a spirit: whether or not one did good
deeds, the amount of spiritual practice, destiny, death cause, funeral, spiritual rituals, self esteem,
have desires that weren t fulfilled, negative thoughts, anger, harmed people during lifetime, or
doesn t have spiritual thoughts or practices (What Are Ghosts). Occasionally, the ghostwill attach to
a person, place or object.
Some ghosts are rather weak and highly dependent on the place or person they are attached to.
They are sometimes called earthbound spirits. Some other ghosts have gained so much energy that
they can move around and even make objects move with their energy. These are called poltergeists.
(What to Do)
Poltergeists are one kind of ghost that one would not enjoy to have in their company. Very
strong poltergeists have a limited ability to slam doors or make objects fall on your head (What
to Do). They derive pleasure out of exerting control over and tormenting humans and other subtle
bodies (What Are Ghosts). Ghosts take the energy from their victim s breath and use the breath to
provide the them with energy. Ghosts that had addictions to chemicals, such as addictive drugs
and alcohol, will feed off of humans with a similar addiction (Spiritual Compass). Spirits can feed
off of your fear (Spiritual Compass). Emotionally they can scare you, but only if you are afraid of
them (What to Do). The fear is what

Industrialization occurred in Britain in the 1750s due to the environmental and social climate
prime for mechanization in industries. Due to the change in economic exportations from
agricultural to mechanized products, Britain s society began to change as people migrated to
work in factories. The migration of the newfound middleclass led to mass urbanization of
various areas in England which contrasted the previous quintessential English countryside that
had dominated the nation. Through the expansion of mechanical goods, the countryside lost
land to factories and the environment was also deeply affected by the influx of smoke climbing
into the air. Contrary to the environmental problems, the British were experienced economic
glory as the became a superpower in the advancing technologies. Through the industrialization,
Britain would develop advanced war machines and would vastly change British society hundreds
of years later in 20th century London. JRR Tolkien was profoundly affected by industrialization
throughout his time in World War I. Beginning in 1915, Tolkien was enlisted in the war but it
did take much time for him to leave: in November of the same year he was sent back to London
because he was diagnosed with Trench fever. Although he soon recovered from the illness by
christmas it was recurring through 1917 to 1918. Despite this epidemic, Tolkien continued to
make camp visits to various army bases in London. In a particular visit to the Hull area, Tolkien
and Edith had been walking in the woods when Edith danced for him in a place filled of hemlock.
This inspired Tolkien in the Legendarium or The Silmarillion as is is now known, as he described

African Masculinity And The African Continent
The African continent has been riddled with western ideologies and stereotypes for centuries. Even
before the institution of colonization was implemented across the continent, western visitors who
saw the world through their western ideologies and eyes labeled African men, women, and
societies as barbaric, and inferior. These ideologies of Africans continued from slavery, to
colonization and even into the ideology of western nations today. Africans today are working to
change the ideologies placed on them by westerners and create their own definition of what it
means to be an African.
Through photographs, African artists such as Rotimi Fani Kayode are working to dispel ideologies
about African masculinity that is now ingrained in the minds of many westerners. His photograph
Adebiyi (1989), which translates to crown like this is one example of art that counters western
ideologies about African men. He uses a striking image of a masculine man in a feminine pose to
defiantly resist western ideologies of African masculinity and sexuality. His photograph is among
the set of tools being used by many Africans to reimagine Africans in media across the world and
redefine western ideologies about African men.
In his essay The White of Their Eyes Stuart Hall defines ideology as a socially created idea that is
reproduced (1990). Ideologies are present in every society and as they are repeated, they can
generate and produce relationships of inequality. An us versus them

A Report On Passive Solar Architecture
PASSIVE SOLAR ARCHITECTURE INTRODUCTION:1 The last two decade has witnessed a
severe energy crisis in developing countries especially during summer season primarily due to
cooling load requirements of buildings. The energy consumption in buildings is quite high and
is expected to further increase because of improving standards of life and increasing world
population. Air conditioning use has increasingly penetrated the market during the last few
years and greatly contributes in the upsurge of absolute energy consumption. INTRODUCTION
2: Buildings account for at least 40% of energy use in most countries. The construction sector in
India is witnessing a fast growth due to several factors. Some of the key growth drivers are
increased demand for housing, strong demographic impetus, expansion of organized retail,
increased demand for commercial office spaces by multinationals and IT (information
technology) hubs, and coming up of SEZs (special economic zones). The gross built up area
added to commercial and residential spaces was about 40.8 million square metres in 2004/05,
which is about 1% of annual average constructed floor area around the world, and the trend shows
a sustained growth of 10% over the coming years. With a near consistent 8% rise in annual energy
consumption in the residential and commercial sectors, energy consumption in buildings has seen
an increase from a low of 14% in the 1970s to nearly 33% in 2004/05. This is directly related to
higher greenhouse gas

The Environmental Policy Paradox Analysis
In reference to your opening paragraph, the author of the textbook, The Environmental Policy
Paradox, wrote that the problems policy makers and environmentalists face are economic and
political. And this is also similar to what have discussed in class so far in regards to environmental
regulations. Now you made a strong argument that If American business is the engine of growth
that our politicians make it out to be, why can t we find new ways to do things that save money, cut
pollution, and make our companies more competitive, this question can spark a heated debate that
might probably have no end, most especially when you have a country that is governed by,
technically, two party system (Republicans and Democrats). Saying that many Republicans

Marilyn Monroe Impact
For this paper I decided to research Marilyn Monroe. To help me better understand Marilyn
Monroe, I first asked the question of how did she impact America and how and why did she
become so famous. To find these answers, I researched credible sources and took time to watch
videos to help gain a better understanding of Marilyn Monroe. When looking at many different
websites, I concluded that these different websites had the same answers to my questions. These
websites explained her life is great detail and informed me on the many major life events that took
place. When watching some videos over Marilyn, it helped me get an overall feel of what her
character, which helped me in writing my paper. Throughout this research, I realized... Show more

Later she was baptized and given the name Norma Jeane Baker after her mother. Shortly after
Marilyn was born, her mother, Gladys (Monroe) Baker Mortenson, was put in the hospital with
what most doctors would call paranoid schizophrenic. Along with her mother, her grandfather
had died when, Gladys Monroe (Marilyn s mother) was just seven years of age and when
Marilyn was only a year old. With her mother not being able to take care of her and not trace of
her father, she was quickly put into the foster care system. Marilyn was shunted from many
different homes where she was abused by one of the foster fathers. Those foster parents were
named Albert and Ida Bolender. Since Marilyn was thrown into many different
homes after that, she was never able to be in a home where she was truly able to feel as loved as a
child should. Many people would call her a mistake and say that she did not belong. Till
Marilyn was about seven years of age, she was tossed around different foster care homes and
orphanages. When Marilyn was sixteen, her foster family that she had been living with, had made
the decision to move away. To avoid going back into foster care Marilyn choose to get married to
a man that had been her neighbor, named James Dougherty. She became a housewife, but she found
that she was not happy and became very bored with life when her husband joined the Merchant
Marines in 1943 (Marilyn Monroe Biography).

Resistance To Affirmative Action
Resistance to affirmative action has existed from the time it was introduced (Allen, 2011;
Kaufmann, 2007), and in many instances, the U.S. Supreme Court has played a crucial role in
determining the extent to which it can achieve its original goals (Zamani Brown, 2003). One of the
earliest cases to challenge the use of affirmative actionwas DeFunis v. Odegaard (1973), of which
the court found the University of Washington Law School s use of race in admissions to be
unconstitutional (Platt, 2007; Zamani Brown, 2003). The law school was accused of having
separate admissions procedures for students of color by giving less weight to their predicted first
year averages. As such, DeFunis argued that underqualified students of color had been... Show more

Kirwan (1994), a federal court ruled on the constitutionality of race based merit scholarships. In this
case, the merit based Benjamin Banneker Scholarship, earmarked for African American students,
sought to attract academically talented African American students to the University of Maryland at
College Park. The court ruled it was not permissible to maintain separate financial merit awards
according to race (Shapiro, 1995), illustrating the increasing difficulties postsecondary institutions
faced to designate a fellowship or scholarship specifically for racial/ethnic minorities (Platt, 2007).
In fact, efforts to prohibit affirmative action in the United States really ramped up in the mid 1990
s. For instance, in 1996 the Supreme Court upheld California s Proposition 209, an amendment to
the state constitution that banned both discrimination and affirmative action programs that give
preferences to groups or individuals based on their race, gender, color, ethnicity, or national
origin. To that end, race could not be used as a consideration (e.g., admissions and hiring
decisions) in public education (Alvarez Bedolla, 2004). In addition, in Hopwood v. Texas (1996),
the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals issued a decision ending affirmative action in both private and
public college admissions in Texas, Louisiana, and Mississippi. More litigation continued in 1997
(Gratz v. Bollinger and Grutter v. Bollinger) that challenged the use of affirmative action in
undergraduate and law school admissions, and in 1998, Washington voters passed Initiative 200, a
nearly identical policy to Prop. 209. In 1999, Florida Governor Jeb Bush pre issued an executive
order ending consideration of race and ethnicity in public college and university admissions, public
employment, and government contracting. Such attacks on affirmative action policies are
prompting colleges and universities to abandon race sensitive programs, such as scholarships,
academic enrichment programs,

Essay about The Theme of Katherine Mansfield s Miss Brill
In the story Miss Brill, an old, lonely lady spends her Sunday observing people in a park.
Although ignored by everyone around her, Miss Brill manages to convince herself that she is
really an integral part of the scene and would be missed if she weren t there. Her illusion is
shattered by a chance remark at the end of the story, and she returns home, clearly devastated by her
new understanding of her place in life. What this story is trying to illustrate is that sometimes
people can be happy through living in an illusion. However, this kind of happiness is fragile and
can be easily destroyed.
Unfortunately, modern society does not provide a place for everyone. Inevitably, there are those
people, often elderly, who become ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She pays attention to the smallest details. Wasn t the conductor [of the band in the park] wearing
a new coat, too? She was sure it was new. He scraped with his foot and flapped his arms like a
rooster about to crow... Now came a little flutey bit very pretty! a little chain of bright drops. She
was sure it would be repeated. It was; she lifted her head and smiled (98). Even if she s only an
observer, Miss Brill is an involved observer. She draws enjoyment from simply being in the park
atmosphere. However, her enjoyment is more than a passing mood. It s actually an indication of
a deeper emotion a kind of happiness. This becomes clear after Miss Brill has paid close
attention to several small exchanges between people at the park. Oh how fascinating it was! How
she enjoyed it! How she loved sitting here, watching it all! (99). That Miss Brill does not actually
participate in anything is clear to the reader, but not to her. Vicarious involvement in other peoples
lives seems to be fulfilling for her, even though there is no actual interplay with others. The most
telling evidence that Miss Brill is happy (and that her happiness is based on a false impression)
is when she comes to the conclusion that she s somehow needed at the park. No doubt somebody
would have noticed if she hadn t been there; she was part of the performance after all... Miss Brill
nearly laughed out loud (100). This realization eventually moves Miss Brill to

Separation Of Church And State In The Middle Ages
Throughout time the relationship between church and state has been changing. Church and state
should have absolute separation. In the middle ages, the pope was essentially the king, and that
ended in drama between popes and actual kings, as well as the line between politics and religion
being blurred. Church should not be involved in state because the church leader is then at
significant risk of devaluing one or the other, and state should not be involved in church as it was
during Charlemagne s time.
In the middle ages the church and the state were very much related. The church was less related to
religion than it was to government. Religion in the middle ages was related to politics, so rather
than the leader of a faith, the pope was more like a king; he supposedly possessed the power to
send people to hell by excommunicating them if they displeased him. The pope was the leader of
the church, and also the leader of essentially everything else; he had the final say in all matters.
There was a conflict ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mixing the two never works because they are meant to stay separate. John 18:36 says, My
kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight,
that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence. The pope, or
any other church leader is an official appointed by God through his children to lead his kingdom
on earth. God s Holy Bible clearly states that earth is not God s kingdom; earth is fallen and
wicked; the world is the devil s kingdom. Therefore God s appointed officials should not try to
rule Satan s kingdom. This does not mean, however, that it is sinful to get involved in politics,
instead that Ministers and Holy men should not attempt to occupy both positions for risk of losing
track of the line that separates religion and politics and slip back into a papic dictatorship as in the

Coca Cola Mission Statement Essay
Introduction A mission statement is a crucial aspect in any type of organization. It acts as a guide
to the commitment and actions of the employees and the management towards the achievement of
the set organizational goals (Petrulis 27). It is crucial as it defines the type of the business, goods
and services as well as the clients. An effective mission statement helps in defining the aim of the
business, goals and objectives as well as the strategies relied upon to achieve it. Ideally, it should
be an idea, which runs through all departments in an organization. It helps in influencing the actions
of the managers at all levels. It acts as a force that leads to long term and short term goals of an
organization (MacNamara 20). Furthermore,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The company s vision statement is a roadmap to double the global systems revenue in a period of
10 years by focusing on the six key areas. These are; profit, productivity, people, partners, portfolio
and planet (Krell, 27). In the vision, the company talks of the clients, products self concept, public
image, philosophy and the employees, which are good aspects that should be included in a mission
statement for it to be comprehensive and of good standard (Soar, 34). However, in this mission
statement, the company does not mention any item to do with leadership, quality, integrity,
accountability, collaboration, passion as well as diversion. These are critical elements that should
be considered in the mission statement, but the Coca Cola Company has mentioned none of them in
it its statement (Petrulis, 28). This is a clear indicator that the mission statement of Coca Cola
Company is insufficient. Hence, the company should rather rely on its vision statement in place of
its mission statement and by doing so would have some values listed above to make it effective. It
is by their inclusion that a company can be able to communicate its mission for being what it is to
all its stakeholders in one statement (Soar,

Glomerulonephritis Essay
Glomerulonephritis (GN), or the inflammation of glomeruli, is a leading cause of renal failure
worldwide. Inflammation is characterized by vascular fragility, infiltration of leukocytes, and
edema. Glomerular disease may manifest by three major syndromes: nephritic syndrome, nephrotic
syndrome, and rapidly progressive glomerulonephritis (RPGN). Nephritic syndrome consists of
sudden onset of hematuria, non nephrotic range proteinuria (1.5 g/24 h), active sediment with red
bloodcell (RBC) casts or dysmorphic RBCs, acute renal failure, and hypertension. Nephrotic
syndrome is characterized by heavy proteinuria ( 3.5 g/24 h), edema, hypoalbuminemia, and
hyperlipidemia. RPGN is characterized by active sediment (RBC casts and dysmorphic RBCs)
and rapid development of acute renal failure usually over a period of weeks to months.
Glomerulonephritis accounts for the majority of progressive renal disease in many parts of the
world.
ETIOLOGY
Glomerulonephritis has diverse etiologies related to disorders of the immune system, including
abnormal immunoglobulin and complement regulation. Glomerulonephritis is caused by immune
processes that lead to deposition of antibodies and complement within the glomerulus. This results
in injury to intrinsic glomerular cells, infiltration of leukocytes and damage to the capillary ... Show

Hematuria is a key manifestation of glomerulonephritis. Glomerular inflammation leads to
glomerular hemorrhage where blood enters the Bowman s space and erythrocytes are incorporated
into RBC casts. These casts are the hallmark of glomerular injury and are almost always present in
acute glomerulonephritis. RBC casts may persist for an indefinite period after an acute injury but
will generally decrease in number as inflammation

Letter To A Humorous Wedding
Dad,
Several days ago, we sat downstairs in the living room and hung out. We talked about politics,
spring break, Taylor s Wedding, and Christmas. I mentioned to you how I have reached the age of
not needing anything for Christmas. I thought long and hard about what to get you for a gift and I
was stuck. We are a very lucky family, to have a nice home, nice cars, and the ability to have
leisure s in life some people can only dream of. So when it came to deciding what to get you for
Christmas, I felt it was only right to give you the gift you most deserve, a thank you.
First off, I want to thank you for giving me the best gift, which is an education. I work hard at
school because I am so lucky to have the opportunities I do to learn. You... Show more content on

Hannah dear, things don t always go as we planned. I am scared too but I know this is God s
plan and he will lead me through it. And he did. He allowed for me to have all of October to
spend those last moments with her. During the moments, I was able to talk to her about
anything. She knew I wanted to go to Denmark and told me how much she enjoyed her travels.
Any questions that were left unanswered I discovered in a Bible she gave me for my 19th
birthday with her favorite passages marked. As each day passes, I am always reminded that she
is watching over everyone. I may not agree with God s plan, but eventually it will all unfold as
to why it was his plan. For starters, I think it opened all of our eyes to the importance of being
healthy. It also challenged our family in the worst way and we were able to make it out stronger than

  • 3. Miss Stephanie Monologue I admire the fact that Scout now trusts her father. I know that it is a very nice trait to have. When I trust my father, I know that I can always count on him and that he will always be there for me. Whenever any of my friends have a problem, I always suggest talking to their fathers about it. I feel that girls my age have a stronger relationship with their fathers than their mothers. Personally, I feel closer to my dad than my mom. I also adore how Scout tries to reassure her friend. It is a very nice characteristic to have. People always go to others who know how to give them peace. My father always reassures me like Atticus that It is not time to worry yet . 8. Didn t they give him any warning?... Oh yes, the guards called to stop him. They fired a few shots in the air, then to kill. They got him just as he went over the fence. They said if he d had two good arms he d have made it, he was moving that fast. Seventeen bullet holes in him. They didn t have to shoot him that much. Cal, I want you to come out with me and help me tell Helen (235). This passage is important because it shows how brutal some light colored people are when it comes to dark skinned ones. During the trial, Atticus gave enough details to figure out that Tom Robinson is innocent. If he were a white person, he would have been found innocent. This, again, shows the development of the theme of prejudice. Tom was sure he is innocent and he wanted to return to his wife. The guards showed brutality when they warned him with ... In the respective texts, that which Achilles and the Athenians encounter prove they will not exist in harmony for human nature is incapable of controlling passion and the enemy of anything superior (HPW 3.84). When Achillesdoes not receive his earned honor after battle and death s toll from the war blurs the Athenians identity, their grief causes apathy. In death s atrocity, Achilles and the Athenians turn towards their self interests in hopes to regain control and dignity. Achilles withdraws from the army in hopes they will recognize his worth, thus restoring honor to him. The Greeks were stricken with unendurable grief yet his proud spirit kept him from letting go of his anger. (Il. 9.4, 259). His inability to understand his mortality and resulting lack of philotД“s pitched countless souls of heroes into Hades dark (Il. 1.3 4). Falling into fits of self pity, Achilles is unable to recognize others sufferings, even of his own people. He complains to his mother that Agamemnon has taken away [his] prize and dishonored him and playing a lyre by the shore, away from the war displaying death s reality (Il. 1.370). In his isolating mД“nis, Achilles hardens into an apathetic death like figure. Similarly, the Athenians begin to lack pity as their city turned towards unprecedented lawlessness,... acts of self indulgence, and immorality during the plague (HPW 2.53). The Athenians even abandon their own people in fear of falling ill as well. Their civilization reveals it shallow nature as they result to only considering present desires as honorable. However, the unique aspect of the industry is that it is so expansive in all of the different categories and types of movies, but yet each film is individualized. A certain characteristic of a movie may appeal to one person and not another. Such characteristics may not only appeal to an individual but to a certain group of people. Could it be that characteristics of a film appeal to either the male gender or the female gender? Is there a difference in the category of movie that a male chooses as opposed to one that a female chooses? Such questions prove to be very interesting and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During the observation, I observed ten males and ten females in the video section of Giant Eagle at 7:00pm on a Friday night. All of the twenty subjects were of college age and appeared to be at the store alone. I specially looked for the type of movie each person would select. By doing this observation, I anticipated to see what people really choose. Since the subjects were unaware that I was watching them, they had no pressure to select a certain type of movie and could chose freely. In other ways of collecting data such as a survey or interview, people may be reluctant to be honest about some details. Through observation, there were no doubts if the subject was being dishonest because they freely chose the movie without even realizing I was watching them. A second route that I chose to collect data was to administer a survey to ten college age people. Of these ten people, five of them were females and five of them were males. The survey was given to these people while they were in their college dorm rooms. There were six questions on the survey, including a gender question, how many movies does the subject watch in an average month, and what are these movies classified as, adventure or romance/romantic comedy. The final two questions dealt with who the subject mostly watches movies with and if they normally get to choose the movie when watching one ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

During Alexander Mackenzie s cabinet years he invested majority of his time in planning the best route for the CPR. Mackenzie s idea in regards to the CPR route involved a less costly plan, or so he thought: his plan was developed around the thought of building a line that would cross the nation partly by rail and partly by water20. Luckily this plan wasn t carried out due to the fact that the CPR s budget wasn t high enough. • 8. The, And, By Stephen Krasner And John Ruggie s... Many of the authors of the readings for this week seem to be writing past each other. While all of these readings come from a 10 year time span and discuss multilateralism and/or sovereignty, there are stark distinctions in who or what is being discussed as the referent object of international relations or world order. This begs the question, can we read, for instance, Stephen Krasner and Robert Cox in dialogue with each other or are they writing on the same general topic, but from such distinct frameworks that the discussion ultimately collapses? Even if the discussion does collapse, is there something worthwhile in attempting to engage these authors? This paper attempts to place the authors from this weeks readings in conversation. In doing so, it becomes clear that Krasner and John Ruggie s conceptions of international relationsare shortsighted and problematic. However, Craig Murphy, Sol Picciotto, Cox, and Claire Cutler all have beneficial insights into global governance. In particular, Cox s contention that multilateralism has been effective in institutionalizing a liberal economic order that should not be understood as synonymous with international cooperation aids us in our consideration of world order. Krasner defines the sovereign statemodel as a system of political authority based on territory, mutual recognition, autonomy, and control (2001, 18). • 10. The Past And Present Defining Characteristics Of The Sami... Evidence suggests human presense in parts of Norway, Sweden, Finland, and even Russia over 9,000 years ago (Joessefson, 142). However, it would not be until thousands of years later that a highly unique and successful tribe would form, known as the Sami. While many Sami have assimilated into modern European culture, central traits still exists within this indigiouns group native to the Sapmi region. Some Sami still practice modes of subsistence, systems of marriage, kinship, social organization, and religion common to their ancestors. However, today, the Sami are faced with social issues distinct from those of their predesesors, such as pressures to conform to modern society, economic struggles, and in some cases, loss of community. It is important to evaluate both the past and present defining characteristics of the Sami peoples to fully understand their culture. One of the most well known characterisitics of the Sami is their skill in reindeer pastoralism. Though, pastoralism was not their initial mode of substiance, instead, the Sami began as a hunter gatherer society. As northern Europe is subject to extreme and lengthy winters, the Sami caught and harvested what they could. Beaver, reindeer, and fish were among the most commonly hunted by the Sami (Bergman, other 27). Artic rose, a plant rich with vitamins, was a popular edible plant that was also central to the Sami diet (Loeffler, 70). • 11. Critical Analysis Of Langston Hughes s Note On Commercial... Even after the Harlem Renaissance was off the forefront of the nation s mind, Langston Hughes continued to comment on the demoralization that white people have historically done unto the African American community. In his 1940 poem, Note on Commercial Theater , Hughes looked to the writers for Broadway and the presentations of commercial theater and saw the appropriation of black culture and perversion of music introduced by the Harlemites. These writers made the music whiter while stripping the credit from those who established it. Despite not having the recognition of white peopleat that time, Hughes still knew that someday somebody ll / Stand up and talk about me, / And write about me even if it would only be himself (Note on Commercial Theatre 12 14). Somehow, somewhere, someone would always be able to identify the wrongs white people inflict on others and be able to pay homage to the struggle while still celebrating their culture. His awareness of the ability of the black community to join together and acknowledge progression demonstrates his confidence in that community as a whole. It does not matter whether or not his own words are heard in his time, but instead that someone else will take them to heart and further the progression towards a better situation. The promise of a future ties the entire black community together towards more opportunities for growth. Vega Tarleton State University Domestic Terrorism vs. International Terrorism The acts of terrorism can affect the lives of many people and is not limited to those who receive physical scaring, but also people who have an emotional connection to those who are injured, and quite possibly an entire nation. To distinguish between domestic and international terrorismone must first define terrorism. It seems from region to region there are slight variations of what qualifies as terrorism. The U.S. Code of Federal Regulations defines terrorism as the unlawful use of force and violence against persons or property to intimidate or coerce a government, the civilian population, or any segment thereof, in furtherance of or social objectives (FBI Terrorism 2002 2005). The Federal Bureau of Investigation further distinguishes terrorism by dividing them into two distinct categories: Domestic and International terrorism. Domestic Terrorism is categorized by the FBI as occurring primarily within the territorial jurisdiction of the United States. These acts are violent in nature and aim toward the intimidation of a government and its people. Domestic and International terrorism can also be further distinguished by considering the origin of the individuals or groups who commit the acts. • 14. Social Activism In Palumbo s Social Work Movement Drawing back into the historical context, Palumbo acknowledges social work s advancement as a result of drawing upon various discipline and one being activism. As social work inevitably evolves with the contemporary society and informed by radical or anti oppressive views of social transformation, it created an unsettling atmosphere that attempts to merge the two theoretical approaches that does not seem to fit. Participants identified as activists conflicted with social work suggest that the role of social work is a professionalized practice that are oftentimes the same people bestowing those oppressions. Other participants identifying as social workers expressed conflict with activism as a result of structural conditions including surveillancing and managerialized practices that limits their work as agents of social change. Participants also expressed the professionalization of social work education and its contradictions to the role of activism. Some participants testified that social work education gave them language on activism while others suggested that the dominance of professionalization discourse can undermine radical pedagogy. Palumbo draws upon Wong s writing which unites these voices by valuing diversity and the importance of facilitating meaningful dialogues between the intersecting and conflicting discursive frames as a part of constructing a just society (Wong, 2004). She further reminds us that social work does not stand in isolation but is to stand with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Michael Henchard Foil According to the Online Dictionary for Literary Devices, The etymology of the term foil testifies the aforementioned assertion as the word foil is taken from the practice of backing gems with foil (tool) so that they shine more brightly. Michael Henchard, who cares more for personal gain, is a foil to Richard Newson, who cares for his wife and daughter. But where are the folk? said Henchard, after the lapse of half an hour, during which time only two men and a woman had stood up to dance. The shops are all shut. Why don t they come? They are at Farfrae s affair in the West Walk (103 104). This event is the first major conflict that occurs between Henchard and Farfrae, and this starts to develop the characters as foils. While Henchard hosts an event in the rain, Farfrae hosts an event indoors that is popular; this shows Hardy s belief that intelligence is a positive trait to have. Hardy shows that Farfrae uses logic and gains favor in the town while Henchard does not and starts to become unpopular. Also defining Henchard and Farfrae as foils, Farfrae shows self control and understands how to control his anger. After Henchard embarrasses himself in front of Royalty, Farfrae meets him and chastises him by saying, You insulted Royalty, Henchard; and twas my duty, as the chief magistrate, to stop you. Patient studies have provided insights into the processes that take place within our minds, and have enabled psychologists to create models, which can be tested and fractionated. Cognitive neuropsychology has developed from cognitive psychologyto become a discipline in its own right; it investigates the function and structures of the brain involved in cognitive processes and should not be confused with cognitive neuroscience, which is primarily concerned with neural structures and their... Studying unseen processes presents difficulties, it would not be practical or ethical to open a persons head to try to unravel the processes that take place whilst they make a cup of tea or drive their car to work. Although examining processes presents difficulties, studying patients who have sustained brain damage can provide insights into parts that play a role in cognitive processes. Findings from case studies are extrapolated to the general population to provide an insight into normal cognition. An early example and often cited case study is Phineas Gage who suffered damage to his frontal lobe because of an accident in 1848; prior to the accident, he was friendly and dependable, however after the accident, he became unreliable and his social skills suffered, this suggests the frontal lobe is involved in planning and social skills. Damasio (1994, (cited in Jansari, 2010)) recreated damage sustained by Gage, after a patient exhibited the same changes in behaviour after undergoing surgery to remove a tumour in the frontal lobe. The recreation confirmed the suggestions made at the time of Phineas Gage, thus providing an insight into how a part of the brain the frontal lobe in this case is involved in cognitive functioning. I am forever wandering around my house turning lights off and it s not just a money/planet saving action. Darkness is wonderful and important, it is the reason I put dimmers on almost every light switch on the plans for our new home. Without darkness, the concept of light doesn t exist or at best without the contrast of darkness, light is not recognisable. The beauty of light could not be seen. Furthermore, the beauty and peace that comes from darkness wouldn t be so if it weren t for the contrast of light. I have also just watched the TED talk about introversion, identifying that the yings and the yangs are both required to have a complete experience. Heide speaks holistically of light quality. Light quality is not just about the bland, measurable approach we take ensuring we meet the imposed standards required for lighting particular spaces. I am left wondering why it is that we choose to power up a building with artificial light rather than use the light from the sun where possible. There are so many ways in which we can do this, why are we so reluctant? Is it easier to just thoughtlessly do what was once probably considered amazing and innovative? The more I think about it the more I would consider grid like lighting design senseless, unhealthy and unimaginative! Years of research and testing have led to major advancements in the technology necessary to operate these cars, leading many to believe that autonomous cars will be a reality in the very near future. As is the case with many innovations, however, a myriad of potential complications have been exposed along the way. It is such a vast field that almost anything can fall under it. However, there are four main qualities of our foreign policyand international relations that define the process, and that is statesmanship, military and war, international economic policy, and cultural exchange. These four are the core parts of International Relations and America s Foreign Policy. Statesmanship is basically the ability, qualifications, and practice of managing public affairs. The three most important qualities of statesmanship are a vision, a moral compass, and the wisdom to execute. Aristotle believed that statesmanship was for the betterment of the community. As the city state comes first, there obviously needs to be a vision for the community, a moral compass to follow and the wisdom of determining and making the execution of that plan. Statesmanship helps lead a country to greatness. The Bible also has its own spin of statesmanship. Very strong poltergeists have a limited ability to slam doors or make objects fall on your head (What to Do). They derive pleasure out of exerting control over and tormenting humans and other subtle bodies (What Are Ghosts). Ghosts take the energy from their victim s breath and use the breath to provide the them with energy. Ghosts that had addictions to chemicals, such as addictive drugs and alcohol, will feed off of humans with a similar addiction (Spiritual Compass). • 39. JRR Tolkien JRR Tolkien, commonly credited as the father of fantasy , has developed a unique and individualistic plot set in middle earth a land of elves, fairies and all that is mystical. Tolkien, a linguist and professor, used literature to create various parallels between his life and the events in his novels. J.R.R Tolkien was inspired by World War I British society, his education, and Roman Catholicism when writing his fantasy novels, such as The Hobbit and The Silmarillion. John Ronald Reuel Tolkien was born in South Africa on January 3, 1892 to Arthur Reuel Tolkien and Mabel Suffield. Arthur and Mabel were English and proudly so therefore when Arthur died on the 15th of February, 1896, the Tolkiens moved to the West Midlands in England. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Industrialization occurred in Britain in the 1750s due to the environmental and social climate prime for mechanization in industries. Due to the change in economic exportations from agricultural to mechanized products, Britain s society began to change as people migrated to work in factories. The migration of the newfound middleclass led to mass urbanization of various areas in England which contrasted the previous quintessential English countryside that had dominated the nation. Through the expansion of mechanical goods, the countryside lost land to factories and the environment was also deeply affected by the influx of smoke climbing into the air. Contrary to the environmental problems, the British were experienced economic glory as the became a superpower in the advancing technologies. Through the industrialization, Britain would develop advanced war machines and would vastly change British society hundreds of years later in 20th century London. JRR Tolkien was profoundly affected by industrialization throughout his time in World War I. Beginning in 1915, Tolkien was enlisted in the war but it did take much time for him to leave: in November of the same year he was sent back to London because he was diagnosed with Trench fever. Although he soon recovered from the illness by christmas it was recurring through 1917 to 1918. Despite this epidemic, Tolkien continued to make camp visits to various army bases in London. In a particular visit to the Hull area, Tolkien and Edith had been walking in the woods when Edith danced for him in a place filled of hemlock. This inspired Tolkien in the Legendarium or The Silmarillion as is is now known, as he described the tale of Beren and Luthien. Furthermore, the warfare in World War I inspired his descriptions of the Wars that take place within the Silmarillion. World ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. African Masculinity And The African Continent The African continent has been riddled with western ideologies and stereotypes for centuries. Even before the institution of colonization was implemented across the continent, western visitors who saw the world through their western ideologies and eyes labeled African men, women, and societies as barbaric, and inferior. These ideologies of Africans continued from slavery, to colonization and even into the ideology of western nations today. Africans today are working to change the ideologies placed on them by westerners and create their own definition of what it means to be an African. Through photographs, African artists such as Rotimi Fani Kayode are working to dispel ideologies about African masculinity that is now ingrained in the minds of many westerners. His photograph Adebiyi (1989), which translates to crown like this is one example of art that counters western ideologies about African men. He uses a striking image of a masculine man in a feminine pose to defiantly resist western ideologies of African masculinity and sexuality. His photograph is among the set of tools being used by many Africans to reimagine Africans in media across the world and redefine western ideologies about African men. In his essay The White of Their Eyes Stuart Hall defines ideology as a socially created idea that is reproduced (1990). Ideologies are present in every society and as they are repeated, they can generate and produce relationships of inequality. An us versus them ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. A Report On Passive Solar Architecture PASSIVE SOLAR ARCHITECTURE INTRODUCTION:1 The last two decade has witnessed a severe energy crisis in developing countries especially during summer season primarily due to cooling load requirements of buildings. The energy consumption in buildings is quite high and is expected to further increase because of improving standards of life and increasing world population. Air conditioning use has increasingly penetrated the market during the last few years and greatly contributes in the upsurge of absolute energy consumption. INTRODUCTION 2: Buildings account for at least 40% of energy use in most countries. The construction sector in India is witnessing a fast growth due to several factors. Some of the key growth drivers are increased demand for housing, strong demographic impetus, expansion of organized retail, increased demand for commercial office spaces by multinationals and IT (information technology) hubs, and coming up of SEZs (special economic zones). The gross built up area added to commercial and residential spaces was about 40.8 million square metres in 2004/05, which is about 1% of annual average constructed floor area around the world, and the trend shows a sustained growth of 10% over the coming years. With a near consistent 8% rise in annual energy consumption in the residential and commercial sectors, energy consumption in buildings has seen an increase from a low of 14% in the 1970s to nearly 33% in 2004/05. This is directly related to higher greenhouse gas ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Environmental Policy Paradox Analysis In reference to your opening paragraph, the author of the textbook, The Environmental Policy Paradox, wrote that the problems policy makers and environmentalists face are economic and political. And this is also similar to what have discussed in class so far in regards to environmental regulations. Now you made a strong argument that If American business is the engine of growth that our politicians make it out to be, why can t we find new ways to do things that save money, cut pollution, and make our companies more competitive, this question can spark a heated debate that might probably have no end, most especially when you have a country that is governed by, technically, two party system (Republicans and Democrats). Since Marilyn was thrown into many different homes after that, she was never able to be in a home where she was truly able to feel as loved as a child should. Many people would call her a mistake and say that she did not belong. Till Marilyn was about seven years of age, she was tossed around different foster care homes and orphanages. When Marilyn was sixteen, her foster family that she had been living with, had made the decision to move away. To avoid going back into foster care Marilyn choose to get married to a man that had been her neighbor, named James Dougherty. • 44. Resistance To Affirmative Action Resistance to affirmative action has existed from the time it was introduced (Allen, 2011; Kaufmann, 2007), and in many instances, the U.S. Supreme Court has played a crucial role in determining the extent to which it can achieve its original goals (Zamani Brown, 2003). One of the earliest cases to challenge the use of affirmative actionwas DeFunis v. Odegaard (1973), of which the court found the University of Washington Law School s use of race in admissions to be unconstitutional (Platt, 2007; Zamani Brown, 2003). The law school was accused of having separate admissions procedures for students of color by giving less weight to their predicted first year averages. Kirwan (1994), a federal court ruled on the constitutionality of race based merit scholarships. In this case, the merit based Benjamin Banneker Scholarship, earmarked for African American students, sought to attract academically talented African American students to the University of Maryland at College Park. The court ruled it was not permissible to maintain separate financial merit awards according to race (Shapiro, 1995), illustrating the increasing difficulties postsecondary institutions faced to designate a fellowship or scholarship specifically for racial/ethnic minorities (Platt, 2007). In fact, efforts to prohibit affirmative action in the United States really ramped up in the mid 1990 s. For instance, in 1996 the Supreme Court upheld California s Proposition 209, an amendment to the state constitution that banned both discrimination and affirmative action programs that give preferences to groups or individuals based on their race, gender, color, ethnicity, or national origin. To that end, race could not be used as a consideration (e.g., admissions and hiring decisions) in public education (Alvarez Bedolla, 2004). In addition, in Hopwood v. Texas (1996), the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals issued a decision ending affirmative action in both private and public college admissions in Texas, Louisiana, and Mississippi. More litigation continued in 1997 (Gratz v. Bollinger and Grutter v. Bollinger) that challenged the use of affirmative action in undergraduate and law school admissions, and in 1998, Washington voters passed Initiative 200, a nearly identical policy to Prop. 209. In 1999, Florida Governor Jeb Bush pre issued an executive order ending consideration of race and ethnicity in public college and university admissions, public employment, and government contracting. Such attacks on affirmative action policies are prompting colleges and universities to abandon race sensitive programs, such as scholarships, academic enrichment programs, ... • 45. Essay about The Theme of Katherine Mansfield s Miss Brill In the story Miss Brill, an old, lonely lady spends her Sunday observing people in a park. Although ignored by everyone around her, Miss Brill manages to convince herself that she is really an integral part of the scene and would be missed if she weren t there. Her illusion is shattered by a chance remark at the end of the story, and she returns home, clearly devastated by her new understanding of her place in life. What this story is trying to illustrate is that sometimes people can be happy through living in an illusion. However, this kind of happiness is fragile and can be easily destroyed. Unfortunately, modern society does not provide a place for everyone. Inevitably, there are those people, often elderly, who become ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It was; she lifted her head and smiled (98). Even if she s only an observer, Miss Brill is an involved observer. She draws enjoyment from simply being in the park atmosphere. However, her enjoyment is more than a passing mood. It s actually an indication of a deeper emotion a kind of happiness. This becomes clear after Miss Brill has paid close attention to several small exchanges between people at the park. Oh how fascinating it was! How she enjoyed it! How she loved sitting here, watching it all! (99). That Miss Brill does not actually participate in anything is clear to the reader, but not to her. Vicarious involvement in other peoples lives seems to be fulfilling for her, even though there is no actual interplay with others. The most telling evidence that Miss Brill is happy (and that her happiness is based on a false impression) is when she comes to the conclusion that she s somehow needed at the park. • 46. Separation Of Church And State In The Middle Ages Throughout time the relationship between church and state has been changing. Church and state should have absolute separation. In the middle ages, the pope was essentially the king, and that ended in drama between popes and actual kings, as well as the line between politics and religion being blurred. Church should not be involved in state because the church leader is then at significant risk of devaluing one or the other, and state should not be involved in church as it was during Charlemagne s time. In the middle ages the church and the state were very much related. The church was less related to religion than it was to government. Religion in the middle ages was related to politics, so rather than the leader of a faith, the pope was more like a king; he supposedly possessed the power to send people to hell by excommunicating them if they displeased him. The pope was the leader of the church, and also the leader of essentially everything else; he had the final say in all matters. There was a conflict ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The pope, or any other church leader is an official appointed by God through his children to lead his kingdom on earth. God s Holy Bible clearly states that earth is not God s kingdom; earth is fallen and wicked; the world is the devil s kingdom. Therefore God s appointed officials should not try to rule Satan s kingdom. This does not mean, however, that it is sinful to get involved in politics, instead that Ministers and Holy men should not attempt to occupy both positions for risk of losing track of the line that separates religion and politics and slip back into a papic dictatorship as in the middle ... It acts as a guide to the commitment and actions of the employees and the management towards the achievement of the set organizational goals (Petrulis 27). It is crucial as it defines the type of the business, goods and services as well as the clients. An effective mission statement helps in defining the aim of the business, goals and objectives as well as the strategies relied upon to achieve it. Ideally, it should be an idea, which runs through all departments in an organization. It helps in influencing the actions of the managers at all levels. The company s vision statement is a roadmap to double the global systems revenue in a period of 10 years by focusing on the six key areas. These are; profit, productivity, people, partners, portfolio and planet (Krell, 27). In the vision, the company talks of the clients, products self concept, public image, philosophy and the employees, which are good aspects that should be included in a mission statement for it to be comprehensive and of good standard (Soar, 34). However, in this mission statement, the company does not mention any item to do with leadership, quality, integrity, accountability, collaboration, passion as well as diversion. These are critical elements that should be considered in the mission statement, but the Coca Cola Company has mentioned none of them in it its statement (Petrulis, 28). This is a clear indicator that the mission statement of Coca Cola Company is insufficient. Hence, the company should rather rely on its vision statement in place of its mission statement and by doing so would have some values listed above to make it effective. It is by their inclusion that a company can be able to communicate its mission for being what it is to all its stakeholders in one statement (Soar, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. Glomerulonephritis Essay Glomerulonephritis (GN), or the inflammation of glomeruli, is a leading cause of renal failure worldwide. Inflammation is characterized by vascular fragility, infiltration of leukocytes, and edema. Glomerular disease may manifest by three major syndromes: nephritic syndrome, nephrotic syndrome, and rapidly progressive glomerulonephritis (RPGN). Nephritic syndrome consists of sudden onset of hematuria, non nephrotic range proteinuria (1.5 g/24 h), active sediment with red bloodcell (RBC) casts or dysmorphic RBCs, acute renal failure, and hypertension. Nephrotic syndrome is characterized by heavy proteinuria ( 3.5 g/24 h), edema, hypoalbuminemia, and hyperlipidemia. RPGN is characterized by active sediment (RBC casts and dysmorphic RBCs) and rapid development of acute renal failure usually over a period of weeks to months. Glomerulonephritis accounts for the majority of progressive renal disease in many parts of the world. ETIOLOGY Glomerulonephritis has diverse etiologies related to disorders of the immune system, including abnormal immunoglobulin and complement regulation.
