September 2014 unprecedented floods in Jammu & Kashmir tell the tale of human misery not witnessed by this state
in over 100 years. The devastation caused by the flood is colossal. It claimed over three hundred human lives and destroyed
everything that came to its way-residential houses, schools, colleges, hospitals, paddy fields, orchards, government
establishments and businesses et-cetera. It has rendered thousands of people homeless and jobless. Today in this paper we are
going to analyse the causes of the flood and its impact on Kashmir, economically as well as socially.
The urban population of India was 37.11crs as per the Census count of 2011
showing a decadal growth of 31.82% in comparison to the on 12.3% and 17.7%
growth in rural population and overall population respectively (Planning
Commission, 2014). The maximum growth in population has been witnessed in class I
cities. Bhubaneswar is a Class-I as well as the largest and the most populous city of
Odisha. During the period 2001-11 the density of population in the city has increased
at a rapid pace of 24.86% to 3553 persons per sq km. Apart from natural growth
,rural urban migration to the city is being influenced by better infrastructure like
schools and colleges, hospitals, housing, roads, electricity, water supply, drainage
etc. All the above mentioned factors are simultaneously witnessing pressure due to
rising number of users. Water supply and organized drainage system are vital
components for any human settlement. Lack of quality water supply and poor
drainage and sewerage system can lead to multiple health hazards. An estimate puts
that globally 2.5 billion people do not have access to safe drinking water and
improved sanitation facilities (UNICEF /WHO, 2009). The above situation calls for
an urgent attention of the urban planners in our country to make adequate provision

earth. Ocean water although , is not utilizable by man directly but it is useful in some of man’s activities like
navigation and renewable energy sources for welfare of mankind The water which is essential to human life is
the fresh water and it is 2.8% of the total water resources on the planet earth. Population growth and
uncontrolled urbanization have created a water crisis in India, our lakes and ponds were once a natural way of
recharging groundwater, but they are being destroyed through urbanisation.Our sewage goes untreated , so the
rivers are contaminated. We used to be very good at managing water in India, but we are losing that ability . As
a consequence of this increased groundwater withdrawl and erratic monsoon , the groundwater levels are
decling in many parts of India including Madhya Pradesh as well as in Chhattisgah region. The rapid growth of
industrialization and urbanisation is the major cause of exploitation of groundwater on and average the
groundwater level in Bilaspur city gone upto 30 feet down. Many places in the city, corporation people required
in the summer season to down pump-motors due to down level of ground water. In the previous year, some
places like Hemunagar and Chuchuhiapara, water level gone down to 30 feet and Bhartinagar, Nehrunagar, Juna
Bilaspur, Sarkanda shown 10-15 feet more down of water level. It is being observed that this trend is followed
year by year. The people of Bilaspur known that earlier when the Arpa river was not it in course, even though
the ground water was available at 20-30 feet very easily. Due to drying of river, the underground water level of
Bilaspur is going down day by day, which is appearing as major problem to the growing population. By and
large the growing city like Bilaspur in Chhattisgarh district is facing the problem of underground water present
day and will be faced severe crisis in next decade. But the quality of underground water as data reveals that it is
still remain same as was previous decades. Of course, the water quantity required for future can be managed
through surface water by managing and saving river water from the encroachment and pollution.
This paper presents a synoptic survey on water demand estimation and the
literature review on provisioning services and cultural services that is applicable for
Kenyir Lake, Terengganu, Malaysia. A good water demand method serve as one of the
principal role in planning, operation and management of water supply system of an
area. The water demand methods consider geography of the region, weather and
community characteristics. Identification of ecosystem services namely provisioning
services and cultural services in relation to ecosystem of Kenyir Lake clarify the
contribution of those services in economy. This paper concludes that applicable water

Sustainable utilization of rivers for domestic water needs in towns and cities requires continuous assessment of the effects of human activities on the quality of the rivers. The objectives of this study were to identify the sources of pollution in River Kaduna and to examine the implications of pollution in water quality of the river on human health. Data required for the study were land use types, Government documents and Hospital records. Data were obtained through field observation and administration of questionnaire. The study adopted the survey design while Purposive sampling technique was used in administration of questionnaire. Descriptive Statistics were shown in tables in unit of percentages. Likert scale data analysis was employed in measuring respondents’ perception on the effects of pollution in the water quality of River Kaduna. The major sources of pollution in River Kaduna are agricultural run-off, industrial effluents and discharges liquid wastes. Results showed that human activities have effects on the quality of River Kaduna. The results also showed that cases of water related diseases are high in the study area. The findings revealed that the variety and level of pollution in River Kaduna is related to the size of population and land use activities on the various parts of the Metropolis from where it receives run-off and pollutants. The research drew attention of the authorities on the urgent need to regulate human activities along the river and encourage low cost technology for the treatment of well water and polluted rivers in the metropolis. These actions will guarantee sustainable utilization of River Kaduna as a potable source of water supply.

Abstract Water availability analysis was carried out in Ujjain Basin part of Shipra Basin located in Madhya Pradesh state, at various probabilities for different dependable flow volumes. The flow regime was analyzed in this study using Flow Duration curve technique and the model was developed using MIKE BASIN software. Through MIKE model was developed for the whole Shipra Basin, a diversion canal in the name of KHAN Diversion and Narmada-Shipra link is added. In this study the flow at Ujjain city is mainly influenced by Khan diversion which is developed in the model and Narmada-Shipra link. Three scenarios were developed and net flow to Ujjain city were studied and analyzed for Khumb Mela that is to be held in 2016. The water availability analysis was performed for the individual months. In the present study the availability of dependable flow volumes were calculated month wise at 70, 75, 80, 85, 90, 95 and 100% probability of exceedance. precipitation to a waste bowl that can be immediately
absorbed or secured inside the bowl. Surges can be caused by
typical, natural or anthropogenic factors. There are a couple
of purposes behind surges and change from region to area.
Flood is coming to fruition in view of unprecedented
geophysical event to make an astounding danger to human
life and property. Surge occurring in thickly populated locale
can do most extraordinary mischief to life and property.
Country practices and deforestation have altogether changed
the condition in whole stream bowls. Passing, disease, harm,
expulsion of people and fiscal hardship are the standard
consequences of surge. So the purpose of this examination
work is to research the effect of flooding on children, water
sanitation and cleanliness.

It can also cause abortion and inborn disease in humans and livestock population. In the present study total of 313 domestic animals were screened for Toxoplasma gondii infection. Of which 45 cows, 55 buffalos, 68 goats, 60 sheep and 85 shaver chicken were tested. Among these 40 (88.88%) cows were negative and 05 (11.12%) were positive. Similarly 55 (92.72%) buffalos were negative and 04 (07.28%) were positive. In goats 68 (98.52%) were negative and 01 (01.48%) was recorded positive. In sheep and shaver chicken the infection were not recorded.
