Grotesque Characters When talking about the grotesque uncertainty and confusion is
often common because when someone or something is grotesque it is out of the
norm we don t usually see or hear about it. In Gogol s The Nose the grotesque is
present throughout the whole story and especially with the two main characters Ivan
Yakovlevich and Collegiate Assessor Kovalyov. A reader of this story will notice the
similarities and the differences that these two characters share. This response to The
Nosewill compare and contrast the two main characters and show how they are
grotesque. The title of this story alone should tell the reader that this is most likely
about a nose or something pertaining to that particular body part which is different.

I.Attention Step: My parents are among those parents who tell their children that,
education is the most precious treasure I can give you. Growing up, the value of
education has really been instilled among the four of us and almost everything that
we need for school is being provided. I saw my parents sacrifices to make sure that
we go on with our studies conveniently. Perhaps these are some of the factors why
education is so close to my heart and why, as early as now, I want to help or
encourage children go to school. It really moves my heart whenever I see people
walking miles just to go to school or working part time job to sustain their education.
I admire them for persevering despite the challenges that they face.
II.Clarification Step: This is still the reality that we are facing that there are
Filipino children who are confronted by many challenges that hinder them from
going to school. Many of them, despite their perseverance, have already given up;
some are still persevering; and some did not even have the chance to receive

the form of used polythene bags, comprises of most of the plastic pollution caused in
India. Many processes have been developed to combat this issue which includes
pyrolysis and catalytic cracking. This paper states an experiment that was carried out
using catalytic cracking using Zeolite (ZSM 5). The catalyst in presence of heat
helped to break down the polymer molecules. The experiment gave a product which
consisted of 80% grease. The obtained product can be used for various industrial and
domestic applications where lubrication is required. The recyclable nature of the
catalyst makes this process efficient, affordable as well as environment friendly.

This research seeks to examine crossing within polylingual families with contested
structure. I analyzed a scene from the television show Trailer Park Boys in which a
three member family interact using the concepts of crossing, facework, and footing,
in order to answer my research question. I found that the central character uses
crossing as a method of performing facework. As a result of this, he also indicates
preference and dispreference to his family members.
Theoretical Framework
Crossing involves someone speaking in another language, dialect, or pattern
which feels distinctly other (Rampton, 2000, p. 54). This can occur in a wide
variety of contexts such as first generation Americans using English in a non
English household in order to embrace one cultural system over another. Or, using
a different pattern of speech around a significant other s parents in order to convey
positive social values. In the case of the scene I analyzed, the central character s
language is already crossed as he is a white man speaking almost exclusively
African American Vernacular English (AAVE). He further uses crossing to interact
with his Hispanic girlfriend. As a character, his crossed language is one of his most
defining qualities, making him an interesting case study. Because of the character s

In the summer months of 1798, the Alien and Sedition Acts were written and passed
by Congress. These acts were a cause of issues in America for three main reasons.
They sparked controversy over the formation of parties, the allowance of immigration
into the US, and America s ability to maintain a healthy republic. The Alien and
Sedition Acts caused controversy because they caused the formation of parties, which
many people, including George Washington, thought was a terrible idea. A draft of
his farewell address says, Besides the mores serious causes which have been hinted
at as endangering our Union, there is another less dangerous, but against which it is
necessary to be on our guard; I mean the petulance of party differences of opinion. ...
This is evidenced by the creation of the final act in the Alien and Sedition Acts,
which states that the publication of anything that makes the American government

After reading the assigned short stories I decided to use the first book of the Faerie
Queene and Beowulf. These stories have numerous uses of imagery, Throughout
Beowulf there are creatures and battles that are so epic they literally pop off the
page because of the way ( the author s) described them. In the first book of the Faerie
Queene(the author) there are also a wide variety of different monsters and battles and
stunning characters, but they also connect with history.
I decided to choose Imagery because both of these stories are full of different
creatures and scenes that need imagery to be told in its full glory. Beowulf is action
packed and has descriptive battles and the Faerie Queene has many historical
references that involve imagery.
In the Faerie Queene Spenser uses imagery with what was happening politically or
religiously at the time. There are many examples throughout the story that suggests
this. At the time Spenser wrote the Faerie Queene it was during the English
reformation when England dropped Catholicism and turned to Protestantism as the
country s new religion. Since this was going on at the time Spenser used imagery to
connect with events and to show that their new religion could prevail over the
Catholic s criticism.
In the first book Spenser talks about the noble knight Redcrosse, and describes him
as a symbol to look up to. An example Spenser wrote But on his brest a bloudie

almost seems like Spenser is using imagery to describe the knight Redcrosse as a

Based on my results, I realized my strong area was in visual modality, which was a
score of 30. I think this was my strongest areas because I prefer to see information.
My second highest was in auditory modality which was a 28. I also prefer to hear
information, this helps me take in and retain the information being taught. I scored a
20 in tactile modality. This was my lowest area because learningby touching and
