- 2. Overview for Upcoming Unit Plan This presentation will inform you about the project we are starting in a couple of weeks. The project is entitled “What is the Life Cycle of Plants?” The purpose of our project is for students to learn about the life of plants, from learning the life cycle of plants to learning how to classify plants. The students will plant their own seeds and observe its growth and also they will observe many different types of plants. The activities will be guided by the following questions: Essential Question: What is the life cycle of plants? Unit Questions: 1. What are the steps to growing a plant?2. How can we classify plants? Content Questions: 1. What is a seed?2. What is a bud?3. What are the parts to a fully grown plant?
- 3. Project-Based Learning Inspires students to obtain a deeper knowledge of the material they’re studying. Promotes students to explore real-world problems. Provides authentic learning for students. Allows students build skills of the future.
- 4. Expected Roles of Teacher, Students and Parents Students will be responsible for observing, gathering, recording, and researching information drawn on their own plant as well as plants they find from research. The students will properly classify the researched plants by specific characteristics. As parents, please consider helping as much as possibly (recording, researching information, gathering information, reviewing with student, etc.) My role as the teacher is to make sure students stay on task throughout the unit. I will meet with the students weekly to see how their projects are progressing. I also will assess the students throughout the unit in different ways. I will be available for any questions the students or parents may have.
- 5. Instructional Standards and Objectives for the Unit Third Grade Science: Describe the life cycle of plants, including seed, seed germination, growth, and reproduction. Objective: Students will be able to describe the process of the life cycle of plants. Identify how organisms are classified in the Animalia and Plantae kingdom. Objective: Students will be able to classify organisms of the Plantae kingdom into group according to characteristics.
