Frontera распределенный робот для обхода веба в больших объемах / Александр С...Ontico
Understanding and tuning WiredTiger, the new high performance database engine...Ontico
MongoDB 3.0 introduced the concept of different storage engine. The new engine known as WiredTiger introduces document level MVCC locking, compression and a choice between Btree or LSM indexes. In this talk you will learn about the storage engine architecture and specifically WiredTiger, and how to tune and monitor it for best performance.
Sharding allows you to distribute load across multiple servers and keep your data balanced across those servers. This session will review MongoDB’s sharding support, including an architectural overview, design principles, and automation.
A New MongoDB Sharding Architecture for Higher Availability and Better Resour...leifwalsh
Most modern databases concern themselves with their ability to scale a workload beyond the power of one machine. But maintaining a database across multiple machines is inherently more complex than it is on a single machine. As soon as scaling out is required, suddenly a lot of scaling out is required, to deal with new problems like index suitability and load balancing.
Write optimized data structures are well-suited to a sharding architecture that delivers higher efficiency than traditional sharding architectures. This talk describes a new sharding architecture for MongoDB applications that can be achieved with write optimized storage like TokuMX's Fractal Tree indexes.

Parse has one of the world's largest and most complicated MongoDB deployments, with millions of collections, tens of millions of indexes, and hundreds of thousands of different workload types. In this talk we'll cover our experiences evaluating all three major storage engines — mmapv1, WiredTiger, and RocksDB, sharing benchmarks and compression rates and and fun anecdotes from all three. Igor Canadi will do a deeper dive into RocksDB — what is RocksDB, what is LSM storage, and what are a few of the similarities and differences between RocksDB and WiredTiger. We will then talk about why we are pursuing RocksDB as our primary workload storage engine moving forward, and share some thoughts about the future of MongoDB storage engine innovation.

Scalable and High available Distributed File System Metadata Service Using gR...Alluxio, Inc.
Alluxio Community Office Hour

For more Alluxio events: https://www.alluxio.io/events/
Speaker: Bin Fan
Alluxio (alluxio.io) is an open-source data orchestration system that provides a single namespace federating multiple external distributed storage systems. It is critical for Alluxio to be able to store and serve the metadata of all files and directories from all mounted external storage both at scale and at speed.
This talk shares our design, implementation, and optimization of Alluxio metadata service (master node) to address the scalability challenges. Particularly, we will focus on how to apply and combine techniques including tiered metadata storage (based on off-heap KV store RocksDB), fine-grained file system inode tree locking scheme, embedded state-replicate machine (based on RAFT), exploration and performance tuning in the correct RPC frameworks (thrift vs gRPC) and etc. As a result of the combined above techniques, Alluxio 2.0 is able to store at least 1 billion files with a significantly reduced memory requirement, serving 3000 workers and 30000 clients concurrently.
In this Office Hour, we will go over how to:
- Metadata storage challenges
- How to combine different open source technologies as building blocks
- The design, implementation, and optimization of Alluxio metadata service
MongoDB has taken a clear lead in adoption among the new generation of databases, including the enormous variety of NoSQL offerings. A key reason for this lead has been a unique combination of agility and scalability. Agility provides business units with a quick start and flexibility to maintain development velocity, despite changing data and requirements. Scalability maintains that flexibility while providing fast, interactive performance as data volume and usage increase. We'll address the key organizational, operational, and engineering considerations to ensure that agility and scalability stay aligned at increasing scale, from small development instances to web-scale applications. We will also survey some key examples of highly-scaled customer applications of MongoDB.

PHP Frameworks: I want to break free (IPC Berlin 2024)Ralf Eggert
In this presentation, we examine the challenges and limitations of relying too heavily on PHP frameworks in web development. We discuss the history of PHP and its frameworks to understand how this dependence has evolved. The focus will be on providing concrete tips and strategies to reduce reliance on these frameworks, based on real-world examples and practical considerations. The goal is to equip developers with the skills and knowledge to create more flexible and future-proof web applications. We'll explore the importance of maintaining autonomy in a rapidly changing tech landscape and how to make informed decisions in PHP development.
This talk is aimed at encouraging a more independent approach to using PHP frameworks, moving towards a more flexible and future-proof approach to PHP development.
Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.

"Impact of front-end architecture on development cost", Viktor TurskyiFwdays
I have heard many times that architecture is not important for the front-end. Also, many times I have seen how developers implement features on the front-end just following the standard rules for a framework and think that this is enough to successfully launch the project, and then the project fails. How to prevent this and what approach to choose? I have launched dozens of complex projects and during the talk we will analyze which approaches have worked for me and which have not.
