The Buildings In Ancient Greece
The buildings in Ancient Greece had many different uses during that era. From religious, domestic,
funerary to civic and recreational, they all had specific purposes. Various materials were used
throughout Greek architecture depending on what the building was used for. For example, limestone
and marble would be used for the walls and columns on public buildings. On the other hand, they
would use wood for roof beams and unbaked brick for walls in homes and terra cotta for roof tiles.
The details located on buildings would usually be bronze metal material. The golden section was
where one side of something is larger and the other side is smaller. For example, the golden
rectangle was used in most architectural buildings. Many people believe

The Kabuki Theater
Although it started out as just another type of dance, Kabuki eventually emerged into an important
and fascinating theatre where elaborate makeup and costumes combined to put on entertaining
performances for audiences throughout the centuries. Kabuki started out as a style of dance in the
early sixteenth century, also known as the Edo period. Kabuki is an exclusive type of theater in
which only males can act on stage. For over 400 years, women have only been allowed in the
audience and not on stage. But ironically, a woman named Izumo Okuni along with her female
troupe originally created the theatre. Okuni, who may have come from the shrine of Izumo, set up a
temporary stage in Kyoto around 1603 where she and her troupe acted out slightly ... Show more

The "Demon Queller Glare" makeup is so powerful that supposedly the actor can make a "glaring
pose" to scare away any evil spirits. Based on the Samurai pattern, this makeup is accomplished by
leaving the eyelids white but framing the eyes above and below with black lines. The makeup
emphasizes the actor's eyes as much as possible, and makes them seem to grow wider and wider as
he stares (Agostino 4). Sometimes actors draw in eyes on their closed eyelids to make them look
even bigger for the ideal "glaring pose" (Heinrichs 118). In earlier days, the Kabuki actor would
apply Kumadori makeup with his fingers so he could follow his bone structure, outlining the right
places to make it look even bolder. Kumadori makeup is still very popular today. Expressed through
bold and dramatic designs painted with fingers and brushes, it remains the center of attention in
Kabuki. Common characters in Kabuki theatre each have basic makeup colors and patterns that they
wear often, which each color representing a different emotion (Agostino 5). The colors most
commonly used are red, black, pale green, light blue, and indigo, where red stands for anger, black
represents fear, pale green stands for calmness, light blue represents sadness, pink indicates youth,
and indigo stands for gloominess. Also, in Kumadori makeup different shades of white are used to
represent class, age, and even gender of the character (Heinrichs 119). A lot of important costumes

Ancient Greek Theatre Analysis
Theatre History Ancient Greece In ancient Greece the Theatres were split in 3 major parts. The
Orchestra, The Skene or stage, and then the main theatre segment which was called the Koilon. The
Orchestra was placed in the middle of the theatre in a circular pattern. They had a Thymeli placed in
the middle of the Orchestra, the Thymeli was used as an altar and later was were the chorus stood.
The side of the Skene faced the audience serving as a background. The Skene had as many as three
entrances for actors. Ib between the Skene and the seats, there are two entrances, one on the right
and left which was called the Parodoi. The roof of these ancient greek theatres was flat and it was
called the Theologian. The auditorium of the theatre was shaped in a semi circle which was divided
in two Diazoma, upper and lower. The indoor theatres were called Odeia. The Athenian Theatre
plays were focused on the god Dionysus the god of wine, fertility, and agriculture. The Greek theatre
had loud music, bright colors, and extensive dancing. These plays showed violence and daily life,
social and ethical plays, war, murder, lust, and betrayal. Many playwrights were Sophocles who was
born in Athens the year of 496 B.C. and he wrote over hundred plays for Athenian theatre and only
seven have survived to this day. Another man who wrote plays was a man named Aeschylus, he was
born in the city of Eleuis and was born in 525 B.C. and wrote about 90 plays, and once again he too

The Visit by Friedrich Durrenmatt
Friedrich Durrenmatt, like Samuel Beckett, became a prominent writer that wrote about human
nature after World War II. The Visit, for instance, is about an impoverished town that is in need of
money. The town realizes on Ill, who is a main character, to call a friend and ask for a favor, and he
does. Claire, Ill's friend, places an ironic twist on the requirement in order to get the money, which is
someone must kill Ill, but by the end of the play someone does kill Ill. In general, the play depicts
the idea that it is human nature to do anything in order to survive. Due to Friedrich Durrenmatt's
various techniques when writing the play, the reader gets a town comparable to Germany during the
1930s and 1940s. Friedrich Durrenmatt's techniques were used to foreshadow the play and to depict
the condition and choices of Germany before and during World War II from a logical view. For
example, the black panther, which is one of the most profound symbols throughout the play, is
Claire's pet. She brings it with her to Guellen in a cage. The panther is the symbolic foreshadow of
Ill's life in this play, and Claire refers to Ill several times by the nickname "black panther". The
butler proclaims, " The black panther escaped, Madam."(58) The black panther escapes around the
same time she offers the million dollar. Like the black panther, Ill is trying to escape Guellen before
someone kills him, which is similar to Jews trying to escape Germany during the 1930s before

The Visual And Performance Arts Of Europe
Welcome, to my traveler's guide to the performing and visual arts. In this guide, you will explore
first hand, the visual and performance arts of Europe.
First, we will look at performance arts of Europe which, date back to early 534 B.C. when Thespis
won the first public contest for tragic poets in Greece. The term "thespian" derives from Thespis's
name. In addition, Thespis also introduced performance masks, which would soon become a staple
of Greek and Roman Theater.
Let's fast forward quite a ways, to 1576, where the first commercial theater is opened in London,
England, becoming the first Elizabeth playhouse in the world. Many performance pieces were
performed here; including many plays from the famous William Shakespeare and, the ... Show more

the show. I got the chance to go for the 10th anniversary, which was a spectacular performance.
Visual art, has also been a prominent factor in European culture and society. Visual art began in
Europe during Prehistoric times, somewhere around 30 to 20000 BCE, this art was located in a cave
in Spain and is known as the "El Castillo Cave Art", which is so far, the oldest known cave paintings
in the world. Going further in time, European artwork is emboldened by many great painters and
architects such as Leonardo DaVinci and Michelangelo; whom were famous for some of the greatest
canvas and architectural paintings known in the world today. Most of these paintings from these
artist, can be found in our next location, The Louvre, in Paris, France.
The Louvre, was built in 1190, as a fortress to the Empire of France. The LeMusee du Louvre, is
located along the banks of the Seine River, in Paris. The Louvre, was reconstructed after it's time as
a fortress, to serve as a royal palace. Its expansion continued over the years, covering a total area of
now 652, 300 square feet, much more than its original square footage of less than 600,000. In 1793,
after moving the royal residence to Versailles by King Louis XIV; The Louvre, became an art

Margaret Edson's Wit
Wit is a one–act play written by American playwright Margaret Edson, which won the 1999 Pulitzer
Prize for Drama. Edson used her work experience in a hospital as part of the inspiration for her play.
Productions
Wit received its world premiere at South Coast Repertory, Costa Mesa, California, in 1995. Edson
had sent the play to many theatres, with SCR dramaturg Jerry Patch seeing its potential. He gave it
to artistic director Martin Benson, who worked with Edson to ready the play for production. It was
given a reading at NewSCRipts, and a full production was then scheduled for January 1995.

She recalls the initial diagnosis of Stage IV metastatic ovarian cancer from her oncologist, Dr
Harvey Kelekian. Dr Kelekian then proposes an experimental chemotherapeutic treatment regimen
consisting of eight rounds at full dosage. Vivian agrees to the treatment.
Over the course of the play, Vivian reflects on her life through the intricacies of the English
language, especially the use of wit in the metaphysical poetry of John Donne. Throughout the play,
she recites Donne's Holy Sonnet X, "Death Be Not Proud," while reflecting upon her condition. As a
professor, she has a reputation for rigorous teaching methods. She has lived her life alone, is
unmarried and without children, her parents are deceased, and she has no emergency contact.
Vivian recalls undergoing tests by various medical technicians and being the subject of grand
rounds. She remembers sharing a love of language and books with her father. She flashes back to
her experiences as a student of Dr E. M. Ashford, an expert on John Donne. Bearing later finds
herself under the care of Dr Jason Posner, an oncology research fellow who has taken her class on

Shakespeare's Influence On Modern Theatre
Drama is one of the most intriguing forms of literature. Unlike typical literature, drama is put into
the form of a script in which actors must take the roles of the characters and act out their given
dialogue in front of an audience. Drama is particularly composed of dialogue, the lines spoken by
the characters, stage directions, the actions in which the actor must take, and scenes, the events of
each play which are acted out. Plays do not typically contain narrators that tell the story. Instead the
actors depict the characters within a story and present it to an audience. Dramatic theater,
presumably started within ancient Greece, where the citizens performed presentations as a devotion
to religious gods or to "mark the coming of spring." ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, plays were able to be depicted at night due to the implementation of candles, which
allow for more lighting. Although, his was still an issue since actors now needed to be over the
candle in order to properly illuminate themselves, which was highly dangerous. Additionally, other
factors, which influenced modern day theatre, would be implemented such as, an easier system in
order to set up the scenery or setting of the play, and women were finally introduced into acting.
Within the twentieth century, plays began to take a major revolution. Infact, technology
advancements enabled a variety of opportunities for plays, such as electric lights, which were safer
and provided a vast amount of lighting for the actors, and microphones, which allowed the actors to
speak loud enough that the entire audience could hear them. Additionally, the setting of plays
became more realistic allowing for the fourth wall to be eliminated, essentially getting rid of the
original chorus. Theatres also became enclosed, allowing for the elimination of weather and audible
issues. As plays became more realistic, playwrights introduced "surrealistic stage settings", where
the setting reflected the current conflict or dream, and they introduced the "expressionist stage
setting", where the costumes or scenery were distorted in order to reflect the current struggle or
"unbalanced mind." Separate stages were also introduced in order to blur the line of reality and the
play, for the audience members. However, although the most common theatre stage is the picture–
frame stage, theatre is not, in under any circumstances, limited to only one

Fish Magic Analysis
Fish Magic is a combination of a charming scene decorated with vibrant colors to make one of the
most famous paintings. The painting by Paul Klee has evoked multiple emotions in the audience, as
it has it is full of aura. The Fish Magic by Klee was completed during his prime years as an artist
before he died of scleroderma. The painting has however remained to be one of the pieces which
sparked the creativity of the painter and infused a different level of skills to create a new figure.
Fish magic was created in a pane using oil and watercolors. It combines the components from the
sea, such as fish, the earth, which are flowers and the galaxy, that is the moon and the planets. The
painting appears as though Klee was conveying a complex story using the elements of the sea, sky
on canvas and the earth. He expresses his romantic, expressionist and surreal mood through the
painting . Any person examining Klee's work for the first time will definitely think it was a work of
a nursery watercolor worm. After looking carefully at the elements, one can see how the elements in
the painting fuse together to illustrate a message after seeing hoe Klee was managed to make an
artistic impression using simple elements.
There are several imitations of the Fish Magic painting, which have been produced after the
completion of the initial painting but have not reached the standard of the initial painting by Klee.
Klee has made other artistic impressions with his prowess as a modern artist .

Pop Art Research Paper
Notably Pop Art and Assemblages have been described as 'brash' and also 'extreme and subversive'
in terms of the sixties pop art period. Some early stirrings of this movement can be traced back to
England in the late fifties, with a small association of: artists, designers and historians known as the
ICA. Institutes of Contemporary Art, London. Given the intellectual approach to science, culture
and material's being explored within these early beginning's. It became evident that the robust
influence of Dada elements, were being manipulated into the pop movement. This necessary

This being said indicates that Pop art could be seen as one of those crossover movements. The
confusion and extreme madness of colour and space show events of the Dada influence.
Investigating the historical and cultural issues could be the starting point for many artworks and
inspiration. To say that an artwork is brash, extreme or subversive, indicates a responds to any
artwork or movement. However the point of art, to get a respond either being good or bad... ''If you
have serious ideas, you make art, discoveries, and all of a sudden your head starts to break up into
laughter, if you find that all your ideas are useless and ridiculous, know that DADA HAS BEGUN

rather than the use of materials. The question it raises, is it art because its contexts are in a gallery
space? or should we ask what is the fundamental aim of the objects used? The object of art is the
intelligently language in a visual format. The Dada movements short influence could be seen as a
weapon that injected humour both in a rebellious and spontaneous revolution. This could be misread

William Shakespeare Essay
William Shakespeare
Ask anyone who Shakespeare was, and he or she will immediately rattle off at least three different
plays that were required readings in English, not to mention a few blockbuster movies bearing his
name. Many revere the works of Shakespeare as paramount in the world of literature, dedicating
entire books, classes and festivals to the study and celebration of his work. Although the ancient
language is a common stumbling block for even the most seasoned readers, his varied tales of love,
hate, fear, betrayal, laughter, defeat and victory are just as fitting today as they were four hundred
years ago. He is amazingly timeless. Yet, while we might know what Shakespeare is, will we ever
really know who Shakespeare was? Ah, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sadly, Hamnet died in August of 1596, and from that point forward we have no more information
regarding his family until 1616, the year of his death. There are enough legal documents and theatre
records, though, to know that Shakespeare goes on to possess a generous amount of real estate, hold
shares in an acting company that built the Globe Theatre, and become a principal player in the
acting group The Kings Men (A Midsummer Night's Dream xxx–xxxi). There are many theories and
stories floating around that seem to fill in the gaping holes in his timeline, but since this information
doesn't appear in a register or on a playbill, we don't know what is fact or fiction.
On January 25th, 1616, Shakespeare signs his will in three places leaving the majority of his estate
to his eldest daughter, Susanna, and his "second–best" bed to his wife (All Shakespeare). He died
three months later on April 23rd, and was buried in Stratford, yet his name does not appear on the

holes in the soles, pointed black forties dress shoes scuffed up with no socks." Lee is an alcoholic, a
thief, and a person who likes violence. Austin and Lee has a father who is an alcoholic, who lives on
the streets, which Austin works really hard to avoid being like his father. In the middle of the play

graphic design in this part of history, are the design rules and guidelines still in effect today in
contemporary propaganda, especially in political propaganda. If so what design aspects and features
are still being used and are they still as effective in todays modern society.
Nazi propaganda can be dated back to 1926 when Hitler wrote his book "Mein Kampf" (ushmm,
2015) Hitler wrote two chapters about war propaganda, which he always expressed how the power
and destruction that propaganda could cause in the right hands, and the importance of mass
communication through different mediums. "The first duty of the propagandist is to win over people
who can subsequently be taken into the organization. And the first duty of the organization is to
select and train men who will be capable of carrying on the propaganda" Hitler continues by saying
" The second duty of the organization is to disrupt the existing order of things and thus make room
for the penetration of the new teaching which it represents, while the duty of the organizer must be
to fight for the purpose of securing power, so that the doctrine may finally triumph." (James

Ancient Roman Architecture And Humanism
The time of the Renaissance was a period when old ideas and techniques were brought back to the
surface. Ancient Rome helped frame architecture in the Early Renaissance, in comparison will be
discussing three buildings in Italy that were influenced by classical heritage.
I will discuss is a town house identified as the Palazzo Rucellai, built by Leon Battista Alberti in
Florence, Italy. Alberti was known to be a humanist, which was a belief that Greeks and Romans
practiced. (Dr. Beth Harris and David Zucker "Alberti, Palazzo Rucellai"). It was believed that
humans and their lives were more, or just as important as the Gods. Humanists also believed that
God(s) made humans with a specific talent. According to the dictionary Humanism sparked interest
in a system in which human interests, values, and dignity were becoming a central motif for artisans.
This building was an important commission that Alberti had completed for a wealthy merchant
family known as the Rucellais, and was built after the wealthy Medici family built their palazzo.
According to Dr. Beth Harris and Dr. Steven Zucker, Alberti wrote multiple books. One of those
books was titled The Architecture of Leon Battista Alberti Ten Books on Architecture, and was
considered the most important book of architecture after the famous Ten Books on Architecture
written by the ancient Roman Vitruvius. Using Vitruvius vocabulary of ancient Roman architecture,
Alberti used it in a self–conscious way to proclaim its

Introduction For the classroom observation assignment I was able to observe at Stepping Stones

of September 24th and September 25th of the year 2015. This licensed home–based daycare and
preschool program is located in a quiet suburban neighborhood on 4103 Bryant Street, Blasdell,
New York. The facility allows for a twelve–child capacity (ages 6 weeks to 12 years with four
additional school age) and is owned and founded by Kim Bannister. When I observed, there were
two additional staff present. Therefore, there were a total of 3 adults and 12 children at the center
when I observed. New York State Senator Marc C. Panepinto was also present on September 25th as
he read to the children and toured the home. I chose this specific setting as I personally thought it
would be an interesting dynamic to study how a home–based preschool program is run. Upon
talking to Kim Bannister in an interview, I was able to receive much more information on the
logistics to her preschool program and daycare. In this interview, I gathered that Stepping Stones
Family Child Care/Preschool has been NYS licensed since 1992 and was accredited in 2001–2004
through the National Association for Family Child Care (NAFCC). The cost of accreditation was so
significant in 2004 that Kim made the choice to not get re–accredited. However, even though the

With set design, I really liked the sense of a fish eye lense created by the swirls and circles in the
scene painting. It added to the vast feeling of the territory. I did think the upstage peaks of the, I
guess the term would be dunes, were a bit too high in the skyline. They ended up looking more like
mountains, which I'm quite certain aren't prevalent in Oklahoma. I did however; appreciate the
convention of the turntable as it allowed some seamless transitioning from scene to scene.
Oklahoma! is a very long show and you don't really want to add length in scene changes. The sets
were also a nice mix of rustic, bare bone pieces with some fully realized pieces to show the struggle
of the people on the frontier but made them still seemed like civilized settlers, not nomads. I can
also appreciate trying to distract the audience from a set change with the toy train that ran across the
front of the stage, but I did not find that it served the design concept. I thought it was really cute, but
it confused me as it didn't seem to fit the realism the balance of realism and stage convention I had
seen up to that point. I thought the set design and props did a good job representing the
resourcefulness of the people in the town. After seeing the corn field, we saw corn husks in wedding

Comparing The Three Worlds In A Midsummer Night's Dream
Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream seems, to me, to combine three worlds. A romantic
world of lovers, the workday world, and the fairy world. And while all three worlds tangle and
intertwine together during the play, it is the fairy world that has the most impact. The lovers are
changed by their meeting with the "children of Pan." For the people who constructed this play and
brought these worlds to life in the plays in theatres, the first questions that I would ask are: what do
the fairies look like, and how is their world different from ours? Our world has grown very
technological, and separated itself from nature. I am sure artists' answers to those two questions
have changed drastically between then and now. Back then, people were ... Show more content on

Art Nouveau Research Paper
Art Nouveau
When one considers the term "Art Nouveau," what comes to mind most immediately is "images of a
European–wide invasion [characterized] by the restless dynamism of organic form"(Silverman 1).
For me it is usually the work of Alphonse Mucha– his mysterious women surrounded by the
beauties of nature. Often my Art Nouveau fantasies take shape in the odd fungal–shaped stained–
glass lamps of Tiffany. Or sometimes they surface as the romantic Parisian posters I've seen at Pier
One, advertising champagne or cats noir or bicycles or the like. But no matter what ones notion may
be of what Art Nouveau looks like, there is a feeling that accompanies it that is at the heart of the
style's appeal. It is difficult to define or describe what ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this poster for La Samaritaine(1894), he portrays her hair as long flowing locks that engulf her
body much like the vines of a plant might do if she were frozen still in a garden for several days. In
like manner the lines of her dress cascade down her body, emphasizing the beauty of her feminine
form, this figure itself a frequent inspiration and facet of Art Nouveau works. Such lines are
indicative of another key characteristic of the style– the use of nature; for they engender an organic
feeling in the work. It is important to distinguish between the use of the natural and the philosophy
of Naturalism, a movement that Art Nouveau was consciously attempting to bring to an end.
Naturalism seeks to portray things exactly as they are, as stark, often unflattering reality. Naturalists
based this technique on the claim that true beauty will come across in the faithful representation of
reality. This is exactly the opposite of how Art Nouveau artists sought to create their work. They
believed in drawing from Nature the beauty she has to offer and accentuating it, doing so
symbolically as opposed to realistically. Prominent Art Nouveau artist Siegfried Bing called nature
"the infallible code of all the laws of beauty"(qtd. in Selz 14). All true Art Nouveau draws upon that
code in one form or another, if not in the portrayal nature then

SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK REVIEW Everyone has quirks that make him or her an individual.
We filter through life, attempting to seamlessly weave our oddities into a "normal" person. As
difficult as trying to fit circles into squares, the silver lining in these valiant attempts is that the
"normal" person doesn't exist. That is what writer–director David O. Russell understood when
making The Silver Linings Playbook, The film is a fantastic study in how our individual quirks,
though varying in degree, have the ability to render all of us completely insane. The film focuses on

The film is obviously based on a novel. The dialogue, setting and subtle incongruities lend itself to
pen and paper as opposed to a movie theatre. It needs a novel's freedom to slowly develop
characters. The dialogue between Cooper and Lawrence feels ridiculous when your reality has only
been suspended for the film's 122 minute run time. However, this is not the fault of either actor. In
fact, Lawrence is stellar as the blunt, widowed sex–addict who refuses to allow Pat to pretend that
his relationship with is ex–wife is salvageable. In fact, Tiffany becomes Pat's reason even though
she is just insane as he is. The humor and sexual tension between the actors is palpable despite
sappy, unrealistic lines such as Pat's love confession: "The only way to beat my crazy was by doing
something even crazier. Thank you. I love you. I knew it from the moment I saw you. I'm sorry it
took me so long to catch up." The catalyst in the story is not, in fact, Pat's mental illness, so much as
his father's own problems. Robert De Neiro is stupendous as an aging Eagles fan that refuses to give
up on his idea of "normal." Solitano Sr. is the antagonist; frequently begging Pat to abandon his
silver linings and conform to Solitano Sr's own demented ideas. The tension between Cooper and De
Neiro is amazing. The most realistic aspect of the entire film is when

Tell Asmar "Standing man" votive sculpture 2750–2600 B.C
The plans of all the Assyrian buildings are rectangular, and we know that long ago, as now, the
Eastern architects used this outline almost invariably, and upon it reared some of the most lovely
and varied forms ever devised. They gather over the angles by graceful curves, and on the basis of
an ordinary square hall carry up a minaret or a dome, an octagon or a circle. That this was
sometimes done in Assyria is shown by the sculptures. Slabs from Kouyunjik show domes of varied
form, and tower–like structures, each rising from a square base. The resemblance between the
ancient form of the dome and those still used in the Assyrian villages is very striking. Whether
sloping roofs were used is uncertain. Mr. Bonomi believes that they were, and a few sculptures seem

Designing A Product That Influences Through The Product...
Abstract
The paper aims at sensitizing designers towards the voices of every stakeholder involved in
designing a product that influences through the product life cycle, in a comprehensible way with an
objective to facilitate designer towards a better design. This paper discusses the basic purpose and
nature of design in the context of judging the aptness of a dialogue among the stakeholders
including product in itself. It also discusses the kind of outcome based on designers stand in the
design process which makes the conversation dialogical or arguing in nature. The paper proposes
'Design Tree' as a structure, for creating distinct platforms for dialogue to happen at all stages of
design evolution for design dialogue to be comprehensible.
Introduction
Louis I Kahn in his lecture was explaining the importance of honoring building material. The
designer is at a junction and he has to choose a path. He has to decide between economy and honor
of material. The decision, that designer takes, is case specific and depends on various other factors
as the case might be.
The decision of whether to go logical or intuitive is discussed by many authors and designers in
many ways, some supporting logical or rational views and others intuitive or art based. Kahn's quote
mentioned above emphasizes on intuitive decision (as an honor towards the material) over logical
way (which is the economy). Christopher Alexander in his book 'Notes on the Synthesis of Form'
discusses whether design is

Architectural professional practice is a relatively regional field in which architects conduct their
comprehensive manner in a specific localized territory. Due to the current fact that more and more
American architects practice in China, it is not an easy time for them to interact or communicate
with remote brains on the other side of earth. The different cultural and social backgrounds have
become the source of misunderstanding and problems in the process of cooperation, which may lead
to unfavorable consequences. As a Chinese architectural student who has studied in America and
worked in local projects for the U.S. architectural firm, I have experienced many differences

Essay on Intimate Life in Contemporary Art
Intimate Life As Contemporary Art
According to www.merriam–webster.com, contemporary is defined as happening or beginning now
or in recent times. When utilized in art and photography, it's connoted as vague, obscure, and by
definition always in flux. For some it signifies "cutting edge" – work that pushes the limitations of
recognized practice, style, subject matter, mediums, or concepts.
In the book " the photograph as contemporary art" Contemporary Photography is divided into eight
categories that were chosen to highlight the diverse styles and subject matter that is somehow
connected through similar characteristics.
Chapter One "If This Is Art" defies a conventional stereotype of photography. The photographers in

What make these images stand out are the dynamic sequences and their emphasis on unanticipated
moments in everyday life.
The Sixth Chapter contemplates 'Moments in History' by using documentary photography in a form
of art. Using a counter–photojournalistic approach coined as 'aftermath photography'. Photographers
here present the tales of the consequences of political and human disruption. Moreover, others
investigate the visual records of isolated communities.
The seventh Chapter 'Revived and Remade' investigates and exploits ones preexisting knowledge of
imagery by mimicking and remaking well–known photographs.
Finally Chapter 8 'Physical and Material' draws attention to the many decisions that photographers
have made to the physical and material properties of photography. Some use analogue while others
have mixed different mediums such as installations and sculptural work mixed with photography.
The second part of the chapter discusses alternatives ways of gaining exposure by the Internet. After
summarizing the content of this book, an in–depth research of some photographers from chapter five
Intimate Life will be discussed.

The Minoan Civilization : An Aegean Bronze Age Civilization
The Minoan civilization was an Aegean Bronze Age civilization that was rich with culture, art and
architecture. They were so intellectually advanced for their time period, that they have made a
significant contribution to the development of the Western European civilization. The Mycenaean
civilization flourished in the late Bronze Age. Unlike the Minoans, the Mycenaeans were militaristic
and more calculating people. They had very specific reasons behind their actions. Both civilizations
had differences and similarities in their technology, trade, military, and society. Being in close
proximity of other ancient civilizations, both the Minoans and the Mycenaeans learned from others
to fortify their own identity as a society.
The Minoan civilization developed rapidly during the middle of the Bronze Age in 2000 BCE until
1500 BCE in the island of Crete. The Minoans were a sophisticated culture that had a unique palette
in art and architecture. We know from archeological discoveries, that they had complex settlements
and structures, but there were no fortifications, suggesting that they were peaceful and harmonious.
This harmony carried through to their art giving it literary and mythological essence that questions,
who exactly were the Minoans? Their lack of walled citadels, temples, and unclear kings and priests,
suggests that there was an absence of male domination in this society. This leads to believe that the
females played an important role in the Minoan society. In many

Essay On Colosseum
Module 2: Age of Perfection and Empire (Colosseum – Negative) 336!
The Colosseum (72AD – 80AD) demonstrates that function ("shelter, program, organization, use,
occupancy, materials, social purpose") informs style ("line, outline, shape, composition") (Figure 1)
(Hendrix 2013, 1; John, Sheard and Vickery 2007, 4). Built as a theatre to entertain Roman citizens,
the Colosseum's shape, size, tiered seating, arena and rhythmical arches emerges from the functional
requirements to stage entertainment, maximise spectatorship, manage crowds and provide structural
stability (John, Sheard and Vickery 2007, 1). The cross–section of the Colosseum (Figure 2) reveals
the translation of function into form:

Therefore, whilst varying facades and building technology may "disguise usage norms", the form of
the Colosseum (and modern stadiums) emerges from function (Maguire 2014, 127).
Module 3: Heavenly Pursuits (Gothic – Affirmative)
The intricate carvings, stained–glass windows, statues, jewelled ornamentation and elaborate
paintwork of the Gothic cathedral augments the architectural form.
A theological shift during the 12th century triggered an architectural transition from the dark, heavy
Romanesque church to the illuminated, soaring and delicate Gothic cathedral (Figure 8) (Ching,
Jarzomebek, and Prakash 2011, 369, 420). Annihilating the mass of the Romanesque, Gothic
architecture employed slender columns, vaulted ceilings, pointed arches, flying buttresses and large
windows to achieve a light, skeletal structure with soaring heights and a light–filled interior (Figure
9) (Nuttgens 1997, 160). The decorative carving further reduces the mass to create a delicate
lacework, that coupled with sculptured jambs, piers and archivolts, enhances and disguises the
architecture leading Scott (1879, 313) to "...question whether the sculpture of these cathedrals does
not excel the architecture" (Figure 10). Significantly, the corporeal light filtering through the stained
glass (allegorically the divine illumination of God) and the delicate pillars that draw the eye to the
soaring vaulted ceiling combine to create a system of

The Architecture Of The Italian Renaissance
Theatre architecture in Italy was most exciting during the Italian Renaissance. So we are going to
look at the architecture of three very important theatres from the Italian Renaissance and see how
they not only influenced each other but also how they have influenced the architecture of theatres
today. We are going to start in Vicenza, Italy with the Teatro Olimpico, make our way over to
Sabbioneta, Italy to the Teatro all 'antica and then end up in Parma, Italy where the Teatro Farnese is
located. Not only is Teatro Olimpico the oldest surviving Rennaissance theatre but it was one of the
first permanent theatres to be constructed during the Italian Renaissance. The architect, Andrea
Palladio was a student of Marcus Vitruvius Pollio who inspired Palladio's design for the theatre. In
his article The Influence of Vitruvius on Theatre Architecture, Donald C. Mullin explains that
Vitruvius "wrote his treatise De Architectura Libri Decem in the year 20 B.C.". His treatise contains
a variation of information on Greek and Roman buildings, along with instructions for the planning
and design of military camps, cities, and structures both large (aqueducts, buildings, baths, harbors)
and small (machines, measuring devices, instruments). People think that this was the first book on
architectural theory, as well as a huge cause of Classical Architecture. Which is exactly what
Palladio wanted to convey in his design. He was asked by the Olympic Academy of Vicenza to

Julie Taymor Influences
Julie Taymor was born on December 15, 1954 in Newton, Massachusetts to a doctor and a
politician. The youngest of three children, both more than six years older than her, she had a
"tremendous amount of freedom" (Molina). She lived through the turbulent 1960's noticing how
new circumstances caused by the Vietnam war influenced the behavior of those around her and how
these changes developed as time passed. This close observation of what people went through and
how it shaped them had a large influence on what would become her creative basis not only for
fabricating the costume design for productions, but also for directing many theatrical, film, and
opera works. After producing her first theatrical work at age seven in her backyard, Taymor began to
go to the Boston Children's Theatre where she studied acting. At the age of ten, she was not only
among the youngest there, she also did not know many people as the company consisted of children
from all over Boston. This "began something that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

she created Theater Loh, a troupe composed of actors, dancers, musicians and puppeteers from a

explore tensions between traditional Indonesian society and modern influences. Taymor carved all
of the puppets and masks used in this performance herself using wood from a tree outside her house

Ancient Greece Influence On Modern Society
Some of the greatest aspects of modern society came from Ancient Greece. The people of Ancient
Greece were very creative, and they designed their own buildings and theatres. They were smart
because they established the foundations for mathematics and philosophy. Ancient Greece
influenced sports and the Olympic games the modern world has today in many ways. Ancient
Greece influences in the areas of philosophy, mathematics, art, architecture, sports, and government
had a profound impact on modern day culture and society.
The people of Ancient Greece laid the foundations for mathematics and philosophy. Greek
philosophers, full of knowledge and wisdom, believed that ordinary humans could understand the
workings of nature. Ancient Greece became known for many great philosophers. Thales, who lived
in a time when Greek mythology was popular, became known as the first philosopher and the first to
consider that there might be natural explanations to the world Pythagoras, a mathematician and
philosopher, gained notoriety for developing the Pythagorean Theorem. The Pythagorean Theorem,
a well known theorem in geometry classes in the modern world today, states that the square of the
hypotenuse of a right triangle equals the sum of the squares on the other sides . Aristotle, one of the
most influential Greek philosophers known today, created the idea of the food chain. In this food
chain, humans started at the top and animals such as sharks, birds, dogs, insects, and worms

What Links Disciplines Of Literature, Philosophy And...
What links the disciplines of literature, philosophy and mathematics? The answer is, quite simply,
fiction. Fiction has probably existed since the human brain was capable of imagination, either for
distraction or for the more functional purpose of envisioning hunt scenarios when our nomadic
ancestors would need to survive. Fiction can be defined as a literary tool that fools readers or theatre
goers into thinking that the author possesses certain knowledge about the world (Plato et al., 1963)
but is usually understood as a world or scenario that is created by human imagination. However, that
doesn 't necessarily make it untrue, as fiction can be based on reality and can become a useful

Numbers and equations simply to not concretely exist in our world. Maths is, after all, like any
written language, glorified scribbling that somehow resonates with meaning in our minds. Take as
an example '4 = 2 + 2 '. This string of symbols translates itself into what we understand is an
equation: the two sides of the '= ' sign are the same. However, neither '4 ' not '2 + 2 ' exist. They are
not visually identical. Yet somehow we accept that connecting them with the '= ' symbol indicates
that their numerical value is equivalent. Like fiction, maths merely requires us to suspend our
disbelief long enough for us to understand whatever story or message the author is trying to impart.
This philosophical position is called Mathematical Fictionalism. Its proponents believe that
mathematics are purely fictional but are still functional as long as its purpose is not meant to be a
mirror of reality (Leng, 2016). However, this position calls into question the validity of
mathematics. Fiction, if assumed completely truthful, becomes a lie. So if mathematics are purely a
human made language created to describe phenomena that cannot be described in another language,
how can we ascertain its precision and how much power should we give it in a discussion?
Mathematical entities do not exist concretely, yet we give them characteristics and magnitudes that
allow them to be ranked, ordered and even to interact amongst

As Proctor made the decision to retract his confession water began to stream out from the centre of
the stage in which he was stood. This was a symbolic use of water to represent cleansing– that he

it confused me, as it wasn't clear exactly why the water had any relevance to the plot. Alternatively,
for Elizabeth who was stood next to John trying to persuade him to confess so that he'll live, the
water could have represented devastation. Although she wasn't crying in the scene the flowing water

Giacomo's case, like most actors in the business today, he has a varied and solid body of works

A customarily symbolic creature used was the peacock, another sign of immortality, because of the
myth that a peacock's flesh doesn't rot. This is displayed on the Sarcophagus of Saint Theodore (6th
century A.D.), where two peacocks are placed on either side of an emblem containing the symbols
chi and rho, the first two letters of Christ, in a circle signifying completion (Soltes, 11, 21:20). Near
the end of the 11th century, we see the style of Romanesque architecture transfigure into what is
known as the Gothic era, introduced by Abbot Suger during his rebuilding of the Abbey of St. Denis.
Looking at the basilica of St. Sernin de Toulouse (1080–1120), named after the bishop who was
apprehended by the former Pagan priest when Christianity was illegal, we can see the basilica is
itself in shape of the cross. There are also five aisles, to suggest the five wounds of Christ, five
entryways (Soltes, 12, 3:25). The most notable difference between a Romanesque church and a
Gothic one can be seen in the arches. Gothic arches, ogives they're named, are pointed instead of
rounded, giving a new criss–cross pattern, as exampled in the Chartres Cathedral (12th century)
(Soltes, 12, 10:40). New patterns can also be found in the buttressing, where instead of holding the
framework directly through the walls, the Gothic structure works from the roof and down as if
flying away, coining the term the flying buttresses (Soltes, 12, 11:15). This sort of buttressing is

Broadway has evolved tremendously since its opening, from more theatres to a larger audience. A

Broadway has made major effective impacts on the economy, tourism, and entertainment industry.
In 1750 when Walter Murray and Thomas Kean decided to open their theatre company on Nassau

audience members and mostly put on ballad operas and Shakespearian plays because he was popular

Broadway began getting more known in 1882 when a family named the Mallory's decided to build
the Madison Square Theatre. Nobody but themselves believed it would remain successful because
they had built it on 29th street which was far out of town where most tourists and business was
located. But to their advantage other attractive entertainment started being built in that section, like
The Casino Theatre, the Abby Theatre, and the Empire Theatre. Since there was so much
entertainment it just attracted everyone to go out of Manhattan. Throughout the years they have
managed to build 39 official Broadway Theatres. They also offer Off–Broadway shows which are
shows that take place in small theatre that consist of 200–500 seats that will cost you less than watch
a show at a Broadway Theatre. Due to the low prices Off– Broadway shows have decreased and if
something is not done soon to increase the popularity again, they might just get taken out forever.
During the 1900's Broadway was viewed by mainly middle class people who were searching for a
date night, some excitement, and some soothing music. Since it wasn't taken so seriously by the
public, the best seats in the theatre valued from $1.50 to $2.00. Compared to the prices of today,

Pablo Picasso (1881–1973) was an artist, a Spanish painter, sculptor, printmaker, ceramicist, stage

Context The context I have chosen is a fashion competition. The competition I have entered is the
Bay of Plenty Pin'd creative showcase. This is held in the Tauranga CBD at Baycourt Theatre on the

Coal Mining In Madrid
There are not too many communities that can boast a 1500 year history in mining but Madrid, New
Mexico is one of them. First Native Americans mined the area for turquoise and lead. Then came the
Spaniards in the mid–16th century looking for silver and gold. Around the 1830's large amounts of
coal were discovered along with placer gold deposits. The town of Madrid (pronounced MAD–rid),
was established in 1869. It was once a ghost town for sale, now there is a small population of 400
living people along with a number ghosts in Madrid, New Mexico calling it home.
In 1880 the Santa Fe Railroad came to town and the coal mining went large scale. The gold finds
dwindled to none and now bigger companies moved in to develop large coal mine operations. ...

The history of company towns in the coal industry is not a good one. Mine owners and managers
showed little sympathy for the coal miners and being the company owned the town, the miner's
wages all went back into the company.
In 1919 Oscar Huber was hired as Superintendent of Mines for the Albuquerque and Cerrillos Coal
Company in Madrid. Mr. Huber was a caring man and even though the miner's wages still came full
circle back to the company, Huber made sure the residents were taken care of.
Madrid had a hospital, paves streets, schools, company store, free electricity and even held town
events, athletic activities. Huber also had the first baseball park west of the Mississippi that was
lighted. Huber gained controlling interest of the mine in 1936 and eventually bought the whole town
in 1947.
With the rise of natural gas and came the fall for demand of coal and in 1954, the Albuquerque and
Cerrillos Coal Company ceased to operate and the most of the residents moved away. The 1954
issue of the Wall Street Journal listed the town for sale for only $250,000 and again in the August
issue of the Dessert Magazine the town was listed for sale for

For spelling he needs support with short vowels and final letter sound, we can focus on ending sound words with cards, pictures and puzzle. To follow up on the writing goals, he would need to draw people to tell stories, I could provide sequences, pictures for him to put in order and identify what's happening? As his last intervention, I will also, provide a social story about him and his friends and the way to ask how to play and accept that they may not want to play, and what he should do, such as find another friend or a toy for him to play, and ask with appropriate words instead of bossing. It can be read and discussed at circle time, or at book ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

From religious, domestic, funerary to civic and recreational, they all had specific purposes. Various materials were used throughout Greek architecture depending on what the building was used for. For example, limestone and marble would be used for the walls and columns on public buildings. On the other hand, they would use wood for roof beams and unbaked brick for walls in homes and terra cotta for roof tiles. The details located on buildings would usually be bronze metal material. The golden section was where one side of something is larger and the other side is smaller. For example, the golden rectangle was used in most architectural buildings. Many people believe ... • 3. The Kabuki Theater Although it started out as just another type of dance, Kabuki eventually emerged into an important and fascinating theatre where elaborate makeup and costumes combined to put on entertaining performances for audiences throughout the centuries. Kabuki started out as a style of dance in the early sixteenth century, also known as the Edo period. Kabuki is an exclusive type of theater in which only males can act on stage. For over 400 years, women have only been allowed in the audience and not on stage. But ironically, a woman named Izumo Okuni along with her female troupe originally created the theatre. Okuni, who may have come from the shrine of Izumo, set up a temporary stage in Kyoto around 1603 where she and her troupe acted out slightly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The "Demon Queller Glare" makeup is so powerful that supposedly the actor can make a "glaring pose" to scare away any evil spirits. Based on the Samurai pattern, this makeup is accomplished by leaving the eyelids white but framing the eyes above and below with black lines. The makeup emphasizes the actor's eyes as much as possible, and makes them seem to grow wider and wider as he stares (Agostino 4). Sometimes actors draw in eyes on their closed eyelids to make them look even bigger for the ideal "glaring pose" (Heinrichs 118). In earlier days, the Kabuki actor would apply Kumadori makeup with his fingers so he could follow his bone structure, outlining the right places to make it look even bolder. Kumadori makeup is still very popular today. Expressed through bold and dramatic designs painted with fingers and brushes, it remains the center of attention in Kabuki. Common characters in Kabuki theatre each have basic makeup colors and patterns that they wear often, which each color representing a different emotion (Agostino 5). The colors most commonly used are red, black, pale green, light blue, and indigo, where red stands for anger, black represents fear, pale green stands for calmness, light blue represents sadness, pink indicates youth, and indigo stands for gloominess. Also, in Kumadori makeup different shades of white are used to represent class, age, and even gender of the character (Heinrichs 119). A lot of important costumes in Kabuki ... The Orchestra, The Skene or stage, and then the main theatre segment which was called the Koilon. The Orchestra was placed in the middle of the theatre in a circular pattern. They had a Thymeli placed in the middle of the Orchestra, the Thymeli was used as an altar and later was were the chorus stood. The side of the Skene faced the audience serving as a background. The Skene had as many as three entrances for actors. Ib between the Skene and the seats, there are two entrances, one on the right and left which was called the Parodoi. • 5. The Visit by Friedrich Durrenmatt Friedrich Durrenmatt, like Samuel Beckett, became a prominent writer that wrote about human nature after World War II. The Visit, for instance, is about an impoverished town that is in need of money. The town realizes on Ill, who is a main character, to call a friend and ask for a favor, and he does. Claire, Ill's friend, places an ironic twist on the requirement in order to get the money, which is someone must kill Ill, but by the end of the play someone does kill Ill. In general, the play depicts the idea that it is human nature to do anything in order to survive. Due to Friedrich Durrenmatt's various techniques when writing the play, the reader gets a town comparable to Germany during the 1930s and 1940s. Friedrich Durrenmatt's techniques were used to foreshadow the play and to depict the condition and choices of Germany before and during World War II from a logical view. For example, the black panther, which is one of the most profound symbols throughout the play, is Claire's pet. She brings it with her to Guellen in a cage. The panther is the symbolic foreshadow of Ill's life in this play, and Claire refers to Ill several times by the nickname "black panther". The butler proclaims, " The black panther escaped, Madam."(58) The black panther escapes around the same time she offers the million dollar. Like the black panther, Ill is trying to escape Guellen before someone kills him, which is similar to Jews trying to escape Germany during the 1930s before Hitler's ... In this guide, you will explore first hand, the visual and performance arts of Europe. First, we will look at performance arts of Europe which, date back to early 534 B.C. when Thespis won the first public contest for tragic poets in Greece. The term "thespian" derives from Thespis's name. In addition, Thespis also introduced performance masks, which would soon become a staple of Greek and Roman Theater. • 8. Shakespeare's Influence On Modern Theatre Drama is one of the most intriguing forms of literature. Unlike typical literature, drama is put into the form of a script in which actors must take the roles of the characters and act out their given dialogue in front of an audience. Drama is particularly composed of dialogue, the lines spoken by the characters, stage directions, the actions in which the actor must take, and scenes, the events of each play which are acted out. Plays do not typically contain narrators that tell the story. Instead the actors depict the characters within a story and present it to an audience. Although, his was still an issue since actors now needed to be over the candle in order to properly illuminate themselves, which was highly dangerous. Additionally, other factors, which influenced modern day theatre, would be implemented such as, an easier system in order to set up the scenery or setting of the play, and women were finally introduced into acting. Within the twentieth century, plays began to take a major revolution. Infact, technology advancements enabled a variety of opportunities for plays, such as electric lights, which were safer and provided a vast amount of lighting for the actors, and microphones, which allowed the actors to speak loud enough that the entire audience could hear them. Additionally, the setting of plays became more realistic allowing for the fourth wall to be eliminated, essentially getting rid of the original chorus. Theatres also became enclosed, allowing for the elimination of weather and audible issues. As plays became more realistic, playwrights introduced "surrealistic stage settings", where the setting reflected the current conflict or dream, and they introduced the "expressionist stage setting", where the costumes or scenery were distorted in order to reflect the current struggle or "unbalanced mind." Separate stages were also introduced in order to blur the line of reality and the play, for the audience members. Fish magic was created in a pane using oil and watercolors. It combines the components from the sea, such as fish, the earth, which are flowers and the galaxy, that is the moon and the planets. The painting appears as though Klee was conveying a complex story using the elements of the sea, sky on canvas and the earth. He expresses his romantic, expressionist and surreal mood through the painting . Any person examining Klee's work for the first time will definitely think it was a work of a nursery watercolor worm. After looking carefully at the elements, one can see how the elements in the painting fuse together to illustrate a message after seeing hoe Klee was managed to make an artistic impression using simple elements. There are several imitations of the Fish Magic painting, which have been produced after the completion of the initial painting but have not reached the standard of the initial painting by Klee. Alberti was known to be a humanist, which was a belief that Greeks and Romans practiced. (Dr. Beth Harris and David Zucker "Alberti, Palazzo Rucellai"). This building was an important commission that Alberti had completed for a wealthy merchant family known as the Rucellais, and was built after the wealthy Medici family built their palazzo. This licensed home–based daycare and preschool program is located in a quiet suburban neighborhood on 4103 Bryant Street, Blasdell, New York. The facility allows for a twelve–child capacity (ages 6 weeks to 12 years with four additional school age) and is owned and founded by Kim Bannister. I chose this specific setting as I personally thought it would be an interesting dynamic to study how a home–based preschool program is run. Upon talking to Kim Bannister in an interview, I was able to receive much more information on the logistics to her preschool program and daycare. In this interview, I gathered that Stepping Stones Family Child Care/Preschool has been NYS licensed since 1992 and was accredited in 2001–2004 through the National Association for Family Child Care (NAFCC). A romantic world of lovers, the workday world, and the fairy world. And while all three worlds tangle and intertwine together during the play, it is the fairy world that has the most impact. The lovers are changed by their meeting with the "children of Pan." For the people who constructed this play and brought these worlds to life in the plays in theatres, the first questions that I would ask are: what do the fairies look like, and how is their world different from ours? Often my Art Nouveau fantasies take shape in the odd fungal–shaped stained– glass lamps of Tiffany. Or sometimes they surface as the romantic Parisian posters I've seen at Pier One, advertising champagne or cats noir or bicycles or the like. In like manner the lines of her dress cascade down her body, emphasizing the beauty of her feminine form, this figure itself a frequent inspiration and facet of Art Nouveau works. Such lines are indicative of another key characteristic of the style– the use of nature; for they engender an organic feeling in the work. It is important to distinguish between the use of the natural and the philosophy of Naturalism, a movement that Art Nouveau was consciously attempting to bring to an end. Naturalism seeks to portray things exactly as they are, as stark, often unflattering reality. Naturalists based this technique on the claim that true beauty will come across in the faithful representation of reality. This is exactly the opposite of how Art Nouveau artists sought to create their work. They believed in drawing from Nature the beauty she has to offer and accentuating it, doing so symbolically as opposed to realistically. A theological shift during the 12th century triggered an architectural transition from the dark, heavy Romanesque church to the illuminated, soaring and delicate Gothic cathedral (Figure 8) (Ching, Jarzomebek, and Prakash 2011, 369, 420). Annihilating the mass of the Romanesque, Gothic architecture employed slender columns, vaulted ceilings, pointed arches, flying buttresses and large windows to achieve a light, skeletal structure with soaring heights and a light–filled interior (Figure 9) (Nuttgens 1997, 160). The decorative carving further reduces the mass to create a delicate lacework, that coupled with sculptured jambs, piers and archivolts, enhances and disguises the architecture leading Scott (1879, 313) to "...question whether the sculpture of these cathedrals does not excel the architecture" (Figure 10). Significantly, the corporeal light filtering through the stained glass (allegorically the divine illumination of God) and the delicate pillars that draw the eye to the soaring vaulted ceiling combine to create a system of ... • 31. The Architecture Of The Italian Renaissance Theatre architecture in Italy was most exciting during the Italian Renaissance. So we are going to look at the architecture of three very important theatres from the Italian Renaissance and see how they not only influenced each other but also how they have influenced the architecture of theatres today. We are going to start in Vicenza, Italy with the Teatro Olimpico, make our way over to Sabbioneta, Italy to the Teatro all 'antica and then end up in Parma, Italy where the Teatro Farnese is located. Not only is Teatro Olimpico the oldest surviving Rennaissance theatre but it was one of the first permanent theatres to be constructed during the Italian Renaissance. The architect, Andrea Palladio was a student of Marcus Vitruvius Pollio who inspired Palladio's design for the theatre. In his article The Influence of Vitruvius on Theatre Architecture, Donald C. Mullin explains that Vitruvius "wrote his treatise De Architectura Libri Decem in the year 20 B.C.". His treatise contains a variation of information on Greek and Roman buildings, along with instructions for the planning and design of military camps, cities, and structures both large (aqueducts, buildings, baths, harbors) and small (machines, measuring devices, instruments). People think that this was the first book on architectural theory, as well as a huge cause of Classical Architecture. Which is exactly what Palladio wanted to convey in his design. He was asked by the Olympic Academy of Vicenza to design this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. Julie Taymor Influences Julie Taymor was born on December 15, 1954 in Newton, Massachusetts to a doctor and a politician. The youngest of three children, both more than six years older than her, she had a "tremendous amount of freedom" (Molina). She lived through the turbulent 1960's noticing how new circumstances caused by the Vietnam war influenced the behavior of those around her and how these changes developed as time passed. This close observation of what people went through and how it shaped them had a large influence on what would become her creative basis not only for fabricating the costume design for productions, but also for directing many theatrical, film, and opera works. After producing her first theatrical work at age seven in her backyard, Taymor began to go to the Boston Children's Theatre where she studied acting. At the age of ten, she was not only among the youngest there, she also did not know many people as the company consisted of children from all over Boston. This "began something that ... With this company she created a trilogy called Way of Snow which served to explore tensions between traditional Indonesian society and modern influences. • 33. Ancient Greece Influence On Modern Society Some of the greatest aspects of modern society came from Ancient Greece. The people of Ancient Greece were very creative, and they designed their own buildings and theatres. They were smart because they established the foundations for mathematics and philosophy. Ancient Greece influenced sports and the Olympic games the modern world has today in many ways. Ancient Greece influences in the areas of philosophy, mathematics, art, architecture, sports, and government had a profound impact on modern day culture and society. The people of Ancient Greece laid the foundations for mathematics and philosophy. Greek philosophers, full of knowledge and wisdom, believed that ordinary humans could understand the workings of nature. Ancient Greece became known for many great philosophers. Thales, who lived in a time when Greek mythology was popular, became known as the first philosopher and the first to consider that there might be natural explanations to the world Pythagoras, a mathematician and philosopher, gained notoriety for developing the Pythagorean Theorem. The Pythagorean Theorem, a well known theorem in geometry classes in the modern world today, states that the square of the hypotenuse of a right triangle equals the sum of the squares on the other sides . Aristotle, one of the most influential Greek philosophers known today, created the idea of the food chain. • 34. What Links Disciplines Of Literature, Philosophy And... What links the disciplines of literature, philosophy and mathematics? The answer is, quite simply, fiction. Fiction has probably existed since the human brain was capable of imagination, either for distraction or for the more functional purpose of envisioning hunt scenarios when our nomadic ancestors would need to survive. Fiction can be defined as a literary tool that fools readers or theatre goers into thinking that the author possesses certain knowledge about the world (Plato et al., 1963) but is usually understood as a world or scenario that is created by human imagination. However, that doesn 't necessarily make it untrue, as fiction can be based on reality and can become a useful mechanism to convey important messages and help shape ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Numbers and equations simply to not concretely exist in our world. Maths is, after all, like any written language, glorified scribbling that somehow resonates with meaning in our minds. Take as an example '4 = 2 + 2 '. This string of symbols translates itself into what we understand is an equation: the two sides of the '= ' sign are the same. However, neither '4 ' not '2 + 2 ' exist. They are not visually identical. Yet somehow we accept that connecting them with the '= ' symbol indicates that their numerical value is equivalent. Like fiction, maths merely requires us to suspend our disbelief long enough for us to understand whatever story or message the author is trying to impart. This philosophical position is called Mathematical Fictionalism. Its proponents believe that mathematics are purely fictional but are still functional as long as its purpose is not meant to be a mirror of reality (Leng, 2016). However, this position calls into question the validity of mathematics. Fiction, if assumed completely truthful, becomes a lie. So if mathematics are purely a human made language created to describe phenomena that cannot be described in another language, how can we ascertain its precision and how much power should we give it in a discussion? Mathematical entities do not exist concretely, yet we give them characteristics and magnitudes that allow them to be ranked, ordered and even to interact amongst ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

We watched Arthur Miller's 'The Crucible' directed by Caroline Steinbeis. The original play was performed at the Martin Beck Theatre and won the Tony Award for Best Play in 1953. Set designer, Max Jones managed to capture the audience's attention immediately with his minimalistic but intriguing set design. Wooden poles stood towering outside the stage, baring a striking resemblance to gallows in which women who were accused of being witches were hung on in the 1600s. The prominent poles were used as a metaphor for the constant reminder of death in Salem; this was further emphasized ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This was a symbolic use of water to represent cleansing– that he was accepting the truth. For me, it symbolized that he was going to die an innocent man alongside with Rebecca Nurse. I didn't think the use of water, as a special effect was relevant to the narrative; it confused me, as it wasn't clear exactly why the water had any relevance to the plot. Alternatively, for Elizabeth who was stood next to John trying to persuade him to confess so that he'll live, the water could have represented devastation. Although she wasn't crying in the scene the flowing water was a metaphor for her tears and told us about her inner emotion, which she was keeping enclosed as a typical obedient Puritan wife. Hallmark Show Narrative As a mystery aficionado, whenever a new film premieres on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries, you can almost predict that I will be in attendance along with my partner in crime–solving, my mother. Mysteries could be considered a sort of "guilty pleasure" of mine, and I was ecstatic when Kellie Martin returned to the network in her new Hailey Dean Mystery series. Appearing alongside her was a wealth of skilled and recognizable actors, but one of her cohorts was new to me––Giacomo Baessato. I realize that most actors tend to have their "favorites" and their "pet projects," and as an interviewer, I often worry that maybe I'm asking about the wrong film or show, and perchance, I would have received more complete or interesting answers if I asked my subject about their choice works. In Giacomo's case, like most actors in the business today, he has a varied and solid body of works within his repertoire, and I could have easily asked him about any number of his movies and shows, and I am convinced I would have sensed the same kind of zeal and positivity in his answers. While I always relish the responses of my interviewees, I derive immense satisfaction from actors who view every film and show in an optimistic light, tied to specific and pleasant memories. A customarily symbolic creature used was the peacock, another sign of immortality, because of the myth that a peacock's flesh doesn't rot. This is displayed on the Sarcophagus of Saint Theodore (6th century A.D.), where two peacocks are placed on either side of an emblem containing the symbols chi and rho, the first two letters of Christ, in a circle signifying completion (Soltes, 11, 21:20). Near the end of the 11th century, we see the style of Romanesque architecture transfigure into what is known as the Gothic era, introduced by Abbot Suger during his rebuilding of the Abbey of St. Denis. Looking at the basilica of St. Sernin de Toulouse (1080–1120), named after the bishop who was apprehended by the former Pagan priest when Christianity was illegal, we can see the basilica is itself in shape of the cross. There are also five aisles, to suggest the five wounds of Christ, five entryways (Soltes, 12, 3:25). The most notable difference between a Romanesque church and a Gothic one can be seen in the arches. Gothic arches, ogives they're named, are pointed instead of rounded, giving a new criss–cross pattern, as exampled in the Chartres Cathedral (12th century) (Soltes, 12, 10:40). New patterns can also be found in the buttressing, where instead of holding the framework directly through the walls, the Gothic structure works from the roof and down as if flying away, coining the term the flying buttresses (Soltes, 12, 11:15). Broadway has evolved tremendously since its opening, from more theatres to a larger audience. A numerous amount of plays have been performed that have left unforgettable memories on everyone. Broadway began getting more known in 1882 when a family named the Mallory's decided to build the Madison Square Theatre. Nobody but themselves believed it would remain successful because they had built it on 29th street which was far out of town where most tourists and business was located. But to their advantage other attractive entertainment started being built in that section, like The Casino Theatre, the Abby Theatre, and the Empire Theatre. Since there was so much entertainment it just attracted everyone to go out of Manhattan. Throughout the years they have managed to build 39 official Broadway Theatres. They also offer Off–Broadway shows which are shows that take place in small theatre that consist of 200–500 seats that will cost you less than watch a show at a Broadway Theatre. Due to the low prices Off– Broadway shows have decreased and if something is not done soon to increase the popularity again, they might just get taken out forever. During the 1900's Broadway was viewed by mainly middle class people who were searching for a date night, some excitement, and some soothing music. Since it wasn't taken so seriously by the public, the best seats in the theatre valued from $1.50 to $2.00. Compared to the prices of today, back then they practically paid a penny. First Native Americans mined the area for turquoise and lead. Then came the Spaniards in the mid–16th century looking for silver and gold. Around the 1830's large amounts of coal were discovered along with placer gold deposits. The town of Madrid (pronounced MAD–rid), was established in 1869. It was once a ghost town for sale, now there is a small population of 400 living people along with a number ghosts in Madrid, New Mexico calling it home.
