Career guidance orientation for nss officers
1. Career Guidance & Counselling
Orientation Program for NSS Officers
Objective
To Provide Systemic Career Guidance and Counselling to Youth in Bengaluru Rural, Dakshina
Kannada and Raichur, Karnataka
Background
The Project Code Unnati has been conceived in the backdrop of an increasing burden of youth
unemployment and a plummeting Female Labour Force Participation Rate (FLPR) in India.
Youth and women empowerment is the key to achieving inclusive, equitable and sustainable
development. United Nations Development Programme has collaborated with SAP Labs India
and United Nations Volunteers (UNV) for a three-year partnership, to empower youth and
women for future employability skills and entrepreneurship in the State of Karnataka. This
collaboration has led to the inception of Project Code Unnati- a three-year partnership (2020-
23) between United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), United Nations Volunteers
(UNV) and SAP Labs India. Project Code Unnati builds on UNDP’s experiences of working
towards youth and women empowerment globally and specifically in India as well as its deep
2. engagement with the Government of Karnataka. It also incorporates the essence of SAP’s CSR
strategies to make a meaningful contribution to youth and communities at the grassroots as
well as leverages the UNV’s strong on-the-ground presence for enhanced outreach and impact.
One of the primary objectives of the project is to ensure that students from the 50 educational
institutions across the 3 districts are provided enhanced career guidance and counselling to
enable them gain greater self-awareness in areas such as career interests, work values,
employability skills and personality traits. The project also focuses on informing and
connecting the students to suitable resources and opportunities regarding skill development,
training, and employment. To this effect, the project entails training and capacity building of
the NSS Officers to ensure effective achievement of the project objective.
In this backdrop, UNDP under the Project Code Unnati is proposing to organize a 1-day digital
orientation program for the concerned NSS Officers as nodal officers and addl. Nodal officers
to build their capacities towards providing enhanced career guidance and counselling to the
students. Moreover, the NSS Officers/ Nodal officers may also act as anchors/ resource person
in their respective colleges/ institutions to ensure effective implementation of the youth-related
activities of the Project Code Unnati.
