Industrial Internet, Should I be Interested?ionSign Oy
The document discusses the opportunities and challenges presented by the Industrial Internet and smart, connected products. It notes that the Industrial Internet is expected to create $14.2 trillion in value by 2030 and that 70% of this value will come from business-to-business applications. The Industrial Internet involves using data from connected machines and devices to create better solutions for work and personal needs. Successful implementation requires digitally reimagining businesses, creating new business models, starting small and investing gradually, and dealing with internal resistance to changes enabled by data. Both new customer value and strategic challenges will result, including decisions around features, data ownership, business models, and company scope.
1) KPN is a major telecommunications company in the Netherlands that is undergoing an organizational change towards DevOps and SRE principles with the help of tools like Splunk.
2) Splunk helps reduce organizational silos by bringing together data from multiple teams to provide insights and dashboards. It also enables transparency and traceability.
3) Implementing changes gradually and getting engineers and business users on board with small, iterative steps is key to a successful adoption of Splunk and organizational change at KPN.

Open Source Telecom Survey 2021 Results & Discussion
Alan Quayle, Independent Consultant in Programmable Communications
This is our 3rd year of the survey, thank you for your continued support.
We received 114 responses to the general survey, +163 project survey responses giving a total of 277 received.
The general survey covered: Security, Serverless, STIR/SHAKEN, barriers and benefits of OSS, telcos and OSS, Training, IoT, and general geographic / category info.
Training: An interesting dichotomy is where people do not expect to pay for training when investigating a project but will pay when the project is part of their business.
MOOC.org pricing is interesting. It’s free if you just want to learn, if you want the training recognized, then there’s a fee. This enables people to investigate for free, and then if they require support, the training needs to be verified. This avoids training through support.
Open Source telecom software is part of a suite of open source projects used.
Perhaps we should investigate dominant architectures?
Companies that use open source make a long-term commitment to building an organization that understands open source, and is committed to owning the product, its roadmap, and the customer experience.
Companies successful with open source do not happen overnight, they are built over years.

Hey IT, Meet OT as presented at the IoT Inc Business' fifteenth Meetup. See: http://www.iot-inc.com/hey-it-meet-ot-meetup/
In our fifteenth Meetup we have Hima Mukkamala, Head of Engineering at Predix, GE Digital presenting “Hey IT, Meet OT”.
Presentation Abstract
Software has been the domain of information technology, but it is quickly becoming key to operations technology as well. Operating smart, networked machines from wind turbines to jet engines requires an intricate understanding of both the machines and the data and information that flows through them. The combination of these two disciplines is bringing new efficiencies and capabilities that do more—faster and cheaper. The key is leveraging connectivity, data, and mobility to optimize efficiency and deliver new services to customers. Join Hima Mukkamala of GE Digital to hear how software technology can help companies bridge the divide between IT and OT and how IT can help industrial companies build, deploy, and manage Industrial Internet applications that bring game-changing efficiencies to businesses.
This document provides a summary of a panel discussion on 5G and other emerging technologies:
- The panelists have extensive experience in the wireless industry and telecommunications.
- 5G will enable ultra HD video, connectivity between any devices as part of the Internet of Things, connected vehicles and homes, tele-medicine, virtual reality, and remote control of industrial sites. It is expected to have throughput of up to 1 Gbps, latency of less than 1 ms, bandwidth of at least 100 MHz.
- As the number of connected devices grows exponentially, the demand on networks will also grow exponentially, requiring network densification with nodes, access points, and endpoints closer to users. This will create many opportunities for

Though the name DevOps didn’t exist until fairly recently, the need for
partnership between development and operations teams has always been
around. Today DevOps has shifted from an emerging movement to a critical
component of most enterprises’ digital transformation strategy.
Same for Agility, with the partnership between business and development
and with the fairly recent and emerging Agility@Scale culture, frameworks and
practices.
And in the Digital Transformation and Innovations context where the Digital
Experience is the new competitive battleground, it’s no longer enough to simply
practice Agile development.
Quite simply, IT organizations need to establish a Modern Software Factory,
that combines Agility@Scale, DevOps practices, and tooling in the right ways. A
Modern Software Factory that will help organization adapt to change together
with improving quality, time-to-market and economic KPIs.
But how to consider the very dynamic Agile and DevOps tooling offerings?
What are the useful Best Practices? How to efficiently build a Modern Software
Factory? What’s new in SAFe 4.5 Agile@Scale Framework that helps? These are
some of the questions that will be addressed during this session.

Intel relies on GE's Proficy Cimplicity software to precisely monitor and control their manufacturing facilities worldwide. GE software sales to Intel have exceeded $2 million in 2013, with half of that for replacing legacy Rockwell software at Intel's global assembly/test facilities. A new evaluation of GE Energy's Envisage energy management software could threaten Schneider Electric's existing solution at Intel, driving further Cimplicity sales. Next week, GE and Intel will meet to discuss cybersecurity and mobile applications collaboration. Intel also procured GE services to support a change management pilot to replace outdated source control software and allow version control of additional equipment brands.
