2. Establishing shot
The use of a establishing shot allows the audience to establish
their settings and atmosphere right from the beginning. What
the audience visually sees sets the tone of the thriller and the
persona aimed to be achieved by the producers and director.
The mise en scene of the location viewed first by the audience
of a forest immediately gives off the horror thriller connotations
paired with the music to give the ultimate on the edge feeling
experienced by the audience. An establishing shot enables the
audience to see more and receive and sense of idea where they
are and where the narrative is going to go. By not making the
location clear at the beginning causes confusion within the
audience and leads the sequence to not make sense.

3. Medium Close Up
We used a medium close up shot to only expose part
of the shot. Causing the audience to question the
narrative, enticing them to watch on. Concealing the
rest of the landscape to achieve a sense of mystery as
to what she doing and where she is going. We used
this particular shot to bring attention to the props and
how they build tension successfully, the use of a teddy
suggests to the audience vulnerability and innocence.
Foreshadowing what is later to come. The masking of
the background keeps the audience guessing and
doesn’t give the film away straight away.

4. Extreme Close Up
The use of an extreme close up enables the audience
to focus on a particular character or prop of interest
that plays an important role within a thriller. Ours
being our main character of the little girl, the in-depth
detail and allowing the audience so see this enables
them to make assumptions about the character and
what direction she will lead within the thriller. Extreme
close ups of the location adds effect and
understanding to the audience in helping them
establish the location used and the codes and
conventions into explaining why.

5. High Angle/ Birds Eye View
A high angle/ Birds eye view suggests vulnerability and
danger, having the audience over the character making
them appear small and insignificant suggesting that
they are being overpowered. Foreshadowing what is
later to occur in the film, possibilities of being followed
or our character escaping all builds tension and
mystery to our thriller. This shot was used over our
character when moving in a demonic way, displaying
inching and uncontrollable behaviour to achieve the
sinister atmosphere and persona we are aiming for.
