You’re dealing with terrible installer packages, applications that perform ad-hoc system setup tasks and assume every user is an admin. It seems so often they were never tested in multi-user or enterprise environments. Your colleagues wonder “How hard could this be? At home I just install it and it works,” and they roll their eyes as you bemoan the sad realities of deploying desktop software.
This session will explore techniques for identifying the causes of these issues, and how to approach the various problems systematically to develop solutions. In no particular order, we’ll visit Bash, Python, packaging, launchd, configuration profiles, defaults, and the Hopper Disassembler.

Configuration management is the oft-misunderstood (and possibly black) art of managing your IT environment, infrastructure, and costs. Done well it can reduce operational errors and outages, simplify your environment, and help maintain the sanity of your IT staff.
Puppet is part of the bright future of configuration management for heterogeneous Unix systems. It combines automation, a powerful abstraction language, and uses a client-server model that can scale to suit enterprise-size environments. Puppet is written in Ruby and authored by recovering system administrator-turned-developer Luke Kanies.

Slim3 quick start
Slim3 is a Java framework for developing applications on Google App Engine. It is optimized for GAE and allows building applications using an MVC framework. Slim3 provides features like fast deployment, hot reloading, and type-safe queries. To set up a Slim3 project, install Java and Eclipse plugins, create a new Slim3 project, module, and entry point class, and uncomment configuration in web.xml to enable the GWT service servlet. The project can then be run as a web application.
How we integrate & deploy Mobile Apps with Travis CI
Travis CI was selected as the solution to automate iOS app builds and testing at GetYourGuide. It allows configuring builds that are triggered on every code push, producing binaries that can be tested. The .travis.yml file was configured to use the iPhone SDK, differentiate builds by branch, and archive and distribute the builds. Scripts were added for importing certificates, building and testing the app, archiving it into an IPA, and uploading the IPA and release notes to HockeyApp. This allows automatically deploying different versions of the app to testers after code changes, relieving developers of repetitive manual tasks.

In this talk, I will show how VA Smalltalk integrates smoothly with these technologies to build enterprise-class scalable and performant systems. I will demonstrate how to take an application from the development environment and prepare it for deployment. I will show how to get started with Docker by building Docker images and running them within isolated containers. Phing
Once you're done coding, the project is all but finished. There are lots of tools to keep control over your code outside your IDE. Especially continuous integration tools are really helpfull for this purpose. Under the hood of a CI, or at commandline, Phing can be used for lots of PHP specific tasks that are usually executed within a CI. Phing is a sort of PHP version of the Apache Ant tool, which is neatly integrated with some handy PEAR packages. During this presentation you'll get a basic understanding about Phing and its features. We will walk through some examples and screens, so you get some basic knowledge about phing and in what type of fields it can be really usefull.

We use Macs a lot at Yelp, which means that we see our fair share of Mac-specific security alerts. Host based detectors will tell us about known malware infestations or weird new startup items. Network based detectors see potential C2 callouts or DNS requests to resolve suspicious domains. Sometimes our awesome employees just let us know, “I think I have like Stuxnet or conficker or something on my laptop.”
When alerts fire, our incident response team’s first goal is to “stop the bleeding” – to contain and then eradicate the threat. Next, we move to “root cause the alert” – figuring out exactly what happened and how we’ll prevent it in the future. One of our primary tools for root causing OS X alerts is OSXCollector.
OSXCollector (https://github.com/Yelp/OSXCollector) is an open source forensic evidence collection and analysis toolkit for OS X. It was developed in-house at Yelp to automate the digital forensics and incident response (DFIR) our crack team of responders had been doing manually.
