The Byzantine Empire lasted from 330-1450 AD and was centered in Constantinople, modern-day Istanbul. Byzantine jewelry used precious and semi-precious stones like gold, silver, pearls, emeralds, and sapphires set in cloisonné enamel or pierced gold work. Christian symbols like crosses and images of Christ, Mary and saints became prominent in Byzantine jewelry starting in the 5th-6th centuries. Typical Byzantine jewelry included engraved gemstone rings, pendants shaped as crosses or in crescent shapes, and bracelets with a central roundel and clasp.

Time-value curves to provide dynamic QoS for time sensitive file transfersTal Lavian Ph.D.
A method and apparatus has been shown and described which allows Quality of Service to be controlled at a temporal granularity. Time-value curves, generated for each task, ensure that mission resources are utilized in a manner which optimizes mission performance. It should be noted, however, that although the present invention has shown and described the use of time-value curves as applied to mission workflow tasks, the present invention is not limited to this application; rather, it can be readily appreciated by one of skill in the art that time-value curves may be used to optimize the delivery of any resource to any consumer by taking into account the dynamic environment of the consumer and resource.

Roman bracelets shared many of the design patterns of necklaces and earrings from the period. The still popular ball earrings from the era were nicely matched with a ball style bracelet. Engraved bracelets and snake opal stud earrings were very popular in Roman times.
Many people find it hard to believe that the origin of opal stud earrings took place 100,000 years ago, as evidenced by mollusc jewelry found in South Africa. Molluscs are small snails and clams, and their shells were used to make this jewelry, although it was undoubtedly for more functional purposes (such as holding clothing together) than for adorning people. In the earliest times, natural materials such as animal teeth, shells, bones, wood and stone were used.
