5. Jurong Bird Park Jurong Bird Park is a 20.2 hectare open-concept park. It is the largest in the Asia Pacific and one of the finest bird parks in the world. Jurong Bird Park, collection of more than 8,000 birds from 600 species, offers visitors an experience that is entertaining as well as educational. The whole family can enjoy the comical parrot circus and be enthralled by the birds of prey in the King of the Skies show. The bird shows at the Pools Amphitheatre featuring flamingoes, macaws, hornbills and cockatoos are both spectacular and funny, and recommended particularly for children. To watch magnificent birds of prey in action, catch the 'Fuji World of Hawks' show! 6. Esplanade The original Esplanade was built in 1943 and refers to a park that today occupies 2.4 hectares along Connaught Drive opposite City Hall. In 1985, the Master Plan for an arts centre to be built in Singapore was developed and Esplanade was chosen to be the site upon which it sat. The original Esplanade site was redeveloped in 1991 to enhance the civic districtand while further reclamation work for the arts centre was also began. 7. Suntec City In August 1995, The Suntec city was opened. This highly anticipated opening was 6 years in the making. This construction marvel was commissioned and built by the consortium group, as well as other important industry leaders. Suntec City was built in the heart of Marina Centre and close to City Hall. It is considered to be a "city within a city". The name of the city, Suntec, is derived from the Chinese character xin da, which means "new achievement".
