In this webinar, we won't focus on the research methods for discovering user-needs. We will focus on synthesis of the needs we discover, communication and alignment tools, and how we operationalize addressing those needs.
Industry expert Scott Sehlhorst will:
• Introduce a taxonomy for user goals with real world examples
• Present the Onion Diagram, a tool for contextualizing task-level goals
• Illustrate how customer journey maps capture activity-level and task-level goals
• Demonstrate the best approach to selection and prioritization of user-goals to address
• Highlight the crucial benchmarks, observable changes, in ensuring fulfillment of customer needs

Editor's Notes
When it comes to business, we can make two observations: Hinduism has a positive attitude towards business and creating wealth, yet wealth is not the supreme goal. Ethics (dharma) and salvation (moksha) are more important.
For business, prices and profits should be fair. Tax system should give reasonable rates, should be economical in its implementation, and should not have adverse impact on economic growth. Workers or employees should receive fair and just wages, depending on their ability and productivity.
This religion stresses a sense of justice in business, such as the strict observance of contracts, observing regulations and working for the sake of the common good.
Business is included and should be run according to the laws of nature dictated by God.
Everything that you do in business must be in accordance to God’s will.
It is a set of values about the good, bad, right, wrong, and halal, haram in the business world based on the principles of morality are in accordance with Shariah
The main source for understanding business ethics in Judaism is the Torah. “The legitimacy of business activity and profit, conducted within a framework of religious and ethical norms, is one of the guiding principles for business ethics highlighted in the Jewish tradition”.
1. Truth of suffering
2. Truth of the cause of suffering
3. Truth of the end of suffering
4. Truth of the way that leads to the end of suffering or Nirvana
1. Right View or Right Understanding: Insight into the true nature of reality
2. Right Thought or Intention: The unselfish desire to realize enlightenment
3. Right Speech: Using speech compassionately
4. Right Action: Using ethical conduct to manifest compassion
5. Right Livelihood: Making a living through ethical and nonharmful means
6. Right Effort: Cultivating wholesome qualities and releasing unwholesome qualities
7. Right Mindfulness: Whole body-and-mind awareness
8. Right Concentration: Meditation or some other dedicated, concentrated practice
The justification for adhering to Buddhist psychology in business will therefore be limited to four perspectives:
Accepting personal responsibility for actions.
2. Understanding the importance of healthy detachment.
3. Nurturing the will to collaborate with others.
4. Practicing the right livelihood.
According to Confucius, “A gentleman takes as much trouble to discover what is right as lesser men take to discover what will pay.”
Confucius emphasizes that profit in business is acceptable as long as it is acquired with righteousness.
Do not do unto others, what you don’t want others do unto you.
TAO – THE PATH/WAY
The yin, the dark swirl, is associated with shadows, femininity, and the trough of a wave;
the yang, the light swirl, represents brightness, passion and growth.
YIN YANG - The principle of Yin and Yang is that all things exist as inseparable and contradictory opposites, for example, female-male, dark-light and old-young. The pairs of equal opposites attract and complement each other.
In business, Taoism encourages companies to nourish people, and the aim should not be personal success or gain, but the common good.
Shin Tao (the ways of gods).
Kami, a host of supernatural and mysterious beings (natural deities) that can be known through forms, such as objects of nature, or abstract creative forces just as justice or remarkable people.
In business, Shinto emphasizes benefits for the group which is like a family.
It Is something that you….
……practice
……value
……believe in
……think is ethical
Give me an example of Filipino Values.
The Family Code of the Philippines provides that the parents and those exercising parental authority shall have with respect to their unemancipated children or wards the following rights and duties:
1. To keep them in their company, to support, educate and instruct them by right precept and good example, and to provide for their upbringing in keeping with their means;
2. To give them love and affection, advice and counsel, companionship, and understanding;
3. To provide them with moral and spiritual guidance, inculcate in them honesty, integrity, self-discipline, self-reliance, industry, and thrift, stimulate their interest in civic affairs, and inspire in them compliance with the duties of citizenship;
4. To enhance, protect, preserve and maintain their physical and mental health at all times
5. To furnish them with good and wholesome educational materials, supervise their activities, recreation and association with others, protect them from bad company, and prevent them from acquiring habits detrimental to their health, studies and morals;
6. To represent them in all matters affecting their interests;
7. To demand from them respect and obedience;
8. To impose discipline on them as may be required under the circumstances; and
9. To perform such other duties as are imposed by law upon parents and guardians.
The word Bahala is actually a derivative of the word Bathala,”ipaubaya kay bathala” which refers to the ancient Supreme Being worshiped by Filipinos during the pre-Spanish Period. It can be said that the proper use of this phrase should be in the context of leaving things in the hands of the Divine Being. Simply put, “Bahala na” can be the equivalent of the Islamic term Inshallah, which means “God willing” or “if Allah wills.”
When do you usually say “Bahala Na”?
Filipinos usually say “Bahala na” when they are unable to decide their next course of action or when they have no idea what will happen next. They say this phrase as if all they want is to go with the flow, not minding what the outcome might be.
Bahala Na has been loosely translated as “come what may.” Hence, it is referred to as the Filipino version of fatalism, that is, leaving everything in the hands of fate
Bahala Na is an attitidue of just letting things happen instead of doing something to make things happen is not a genuine “Bahala Na” value
For example your starting or opening up a business. Just like what you’re doing now with your business enterprise. A genuine bahala na attitude is that you exerted all your efforts, you did everything that you can to improve your business and let God do the rest and entrust in Him the fate of your business.
In every positive way bahala is
what makes people move, take
risk and god plan the future
Obligation and responsibility are often viewed in terms of reciprocity ( utang na loob), comprised of debts ( utang), and inner-self-free will ( na-loob). The process begins with an unsolicited gift and continues going often into to the next generation.
The essence of utang na loob is an obligation to appropriately repay a person who has done one a favor.
When abused, utang-naloob becomes burden, as it makes as a person beholden to his debtor, and a hindrance to freedom of decision.
Example: You are hired because may kakilala ka sa business, later on, yung nagpasok sayo sa work will ask something in return. Kunwari nasa finance/accounting department ka, and this someone who hired you ay nagcocorrupt pala sa company, discreetly. SO ikaw lang yung nakakaalam. He asks you a favor not to disclose to anyine what he’s doing anf of course you are caught in a dilemma because of your utang na loob to that person.
What can you see in the picture?
What does the picture implies?
Sa umpisa lang magaling…
do not give up the beginning is always the hardest
*nepotism –the practice of hiring family members regardless of their qualifications
*Cronyism- act of hiring friends regardless of qualifications
It’s not about WHAT you know, but it’s about WHO you know.
PALAKASAN SYSTEM
*Amor propio is part of the Filipino culture. The Filipino people are super sensitive to the emotional imperatives that guide asal or conduct (behavior).
Extra sensitivity or “Balat Sibuyas”
A Filipino would be thought of as lacking amor propio if, for example, they accepted criticism weakly or did not offer honored guests the proper hospitality.
Common forms of amor propio are “hele-hele bago quire,” or “pakipot” which shows as the outset a person initially refusing an offer even if he really wants very much to accept it.
One living example of a procrastinator is now standing in front of you. ME
Mañana Habit comes from the Spanish word "Mañana" which literally means "tomorrow” or "an unspecified future time." Hence, Mañana Habit, refers to procrastination, or putting off for tomorrow what can be done today
• The ‘Mañana habit,’ synonymous to the Filipino expression “Mamaya na,” is just another term for procrastination
In business
• Reduced efficiency
• Damaged reputation – if it gets to the point where the effects of procrastination affect what and when you deliver to customers you are obviously in trouble and it may cause a reputation for tardiness
• Missed opportunities – if you’re on top of your workload you’ll also be a much better position to take advantage of new opportunities
• Roadblocks/Bottlenecks – When you start avoiding things it can interrupt the workflow in your business. Then, an accumulation of things that haven’t been done leads stress for you and frustration for other team members
"Delicadeza and Amor Propio” are the two damdamin (emotional) norms which govern our sense of propriety and self-esteem
Perhaps it can be better understood by saying “ wala kang delicadeza” or “makapal ang mukha” for those who do not have it.
Example : Pag pumatol ka sa boss mo na may asawa.
In business, it is best to do what is right, what is legal, and what is ethical. After all, good will attracts good vibes.
There are various connotations of hiya: In relation to utang-na loob, when an individual cannot reciprocate the favor done to him, or the repayment seems not acceptable to the one who gave the favor.
You are selling rice or any other consumables, Now you’re friend request to pay for the product at the end of the month kapag may sweldo na. On the due date, you are ashamed to even remind your friend about his obligation. It now affects your business, of course. Lugi ka. Paano pag hindi na nagbayad? Ikaw ang kawawa.
Treating each other as equal..
This is closely related to utang-na loob. It is the value of belongingness and loyalty to the small in-group with sensitivity to the feelings of others on the principle of “give and take”.
You are a business owner. Your cousin borrows money from you for emergency reasons. Because you have no cash at the moment and out of pakikisama, you got the money from your business collection and lent it to his cousin.
They give importance to the safety and unity of one’s family.
However, it is not advantageous to hire relatives (nepotism) because one cannot just easily fire them even though he/she is not satisfied with their work performance.
In more general terms, filial piety means to be good to one's parents; to take care of one's parents; to engage in good conduct, not just towards parents but also outside the home so as to bring a good name to one's parents and ancestors; to show love, respect, and support; to display courtesy; to ensure male heirs; to uphold fraternity among brothers; to wisely advise one's parents, including dissuading them from moral unrighteousness; to display sorrow for their sickness and death; and to bury them and carry out sacrifices after their death.
Somehow out of respect to parents, children are oftentimes referred to as an investment. Ikaw ang mag aahon sa amin sa kahirapan. Which is not a good thing. Parents must learn how to invest for their retirement and it is not the obligation of the child to provide for them. As early as now, invest and save for yourself. Helping your parents is not bad as long as it is voluntarily given. Dyan na din papasok ang utang na loob sa magulang, and you being the good sons and daughters to your parents. At the end of the day, it is you who will decide for yourselves.
Developing trust between two people who agree to become regular customers and supplier
"in the commercial context, suki relationships (market- exchange partnerships) may develop between two people who agree to become regular customer and supplier. In the marketplace, Filipinos will regularly buy from certain specific suppliers who will give them, in return, reduced prices, good quality, and, often, credit."
With these values that we have, we can clearly state that you can be proud of being a Filipino.
