– sometimes the hardest thing is gaining the support and financial commitment from the SLT
• Establish some clear milestones
– ensure everyone knows where you're going, so they're always taking a step in the right direction
• Remember, it's a marathon not a sprint
– accept that people will go at different speeds and some organisations need to crawl before they walk
• Work smarter, not harder and sweat systems, not people
– challenge the ways that the work is designed and managed
• Establish key measures and baseline performance
– so you can fully assess the impact of your intervention
• Put in the hard yards over the initial stages
– tackle any resistance to change and stay strong
• Ensure you celebrate your successes
– embed a continuous improvement culture
