2. What is the Business Process Manual (a.k.a. Quality Manual)?

The Business Process Manual is the collection of the company’s policies and
procedures. The top level of the BPM is for all of PS NAM. Our documents are under
the PSN Network Management section (our division name is actually PSSW Power
Systems Software).
The BPM contains the following types of documents.
 Policies – Documents that state the company’s principles, rules and guidelines.
 Process Flow Diagrams – Swimlane process flow diagrams that align with the work
instructions. These show who does what when.
 Work Instructions – Documents that describe who does what when (these do not
state HOW to do the job). They also include the forms that are created as a result
of the process and where the completed forms are stored.
 Forms – These are checklists, document templates and so on.
 Guidelines and Training Material – These tell a person how to do something. They
may also describe how to use a particular tool such as ClearCase, CCRP or eCM
and include step-by-step instructions.
