AVEVA WORLD NORTH AMERICA USER MEETING 2017
AVEVA is committed to ensuring our customers can optimize their engineering information -
whether it is created in AVEVA solutions or others - and better leverage the value throughout the
asset lifecycle. We achieve this through an agnostic approach to interoperability and by supporting
initiatives that define and promote industry data exchange and information governance standards.
This session will provide an overview of how AVEVA supports interoperability and the industry
standards initiatives that help make it possible.

What is “interoperability”?
“…a property referring to the ability of diverse
systems and organizations to work together.”
More specifically, software interoperability is “the
capability of different programs to exchange data
via a common set of exchange formats, to read and
write the same file formats, and to use the same
protocols.”

AVEVA Commitment
”AVEVA believes that a data-centric approach
is of greater value than document-centric
solutions. We work closely with industry
organizations to maintain our leadership in
interoperability and are committed to an
agnostic approach with strong tools for
standards management and control.”

Project Execution
1. Interoperability: Drive consistency through a common specification and
dictionary from day 1 to reduce cost of consolidation of information at each
step in the supply chain across the project
2. Debottlenecking: Raise productivity by applying the “theory of constraints”:
e.g. find bottlenecks in design review & approval process using status
reporting on information delivery & review
3. Accelerated handovers: Continuously stage and validate asset data to
assure data quality and accelerate population of operational systems to
speed up the first oil date.
Operations
4. Speed up searches for information. Reduce “search-time” by linking
documents to tags (often quoted as 25% of operational staff time). Improve
management of change for brownfield modifications.
5. Reduce operational risk. Demonstrate control over “As Built” asset
information. Use as a “minimum standard” for asset information and as a
specification for integrated service contractors & data cleaning.

Handover
“The current low price of oil has created a new reality for
the industry. Innovation is critical to be competitive in
today’s market. Wood Group has enhanced how we
manage data throughout the lifecycle of the project to be
more effective and efficient. Using AVEVA Net, we have
improved data quality, accessibility and reporting;
benefiting not only design execution but Commissioning
and O&M handover as well. Progressively handing over
data allows our clients to achieve “Day One Readiness” with
a much higher degree of reliability.
Kathryn Lust, Director Project Information Management
Wood Group
“Handover of information during capital project execution was
a constant that drove Change Orders and therefore increased
costs. To address this, we brought together all stakeholder
communities—construction, engineering, operations,
maintenance—early in the engineering and design process to
dramatically reduce the cost of installation, operations and
maintenance. One project experienced a 25% reduction in
project schedule and cost savings up to 50% of projected
overall TIC.”
