COURSEWORK 1: ASSIGNMENT
Method: GROUP ASSIGNMENT Marks: 50 marks
Students are required to read and comply with the following rules and regulations
before commencing work on the coursework assignment. Non – compliance of the said
rules and regulations MAY LEAD TO DEDUCTION OF MARKS OR POSSIBLY
REJECTION OF THE ASSIGNMENT PAPER.
A. GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS TO STUDENTS:
1. Group composition:
a. This Coursework is to be done on a group basis.
b. Each group will comprise of a minimum of 6 and maximum 8 students.
2. Group member evaluation
a. Each group member is required to complete a group/peer evaluation form –
appendix C - based on his/her true and fair opinion with regards to the
contributions and involvement of each of his/her group members in this
assignment.
b. The completed evaluation form MUST be submitted and ATTACHED
together with the assignment directly to the tutor during tutorials. Failure to
submit the group member evaluation form will result in a zero (0) being
recorded against your name.
3. Plagiarism/collusion:
a. Plagiarism occurs when a person copies or reproduces another person’s words
and ideas and presents them as his or her own without proper
acknowledgement. Thus plagiarism can take the form of reproduction without
acknowledgement from published or unpublished works of others including
materials downloaded from computer files and the Internet.
b. Students work submitted for assessment is accepted on the understanding that
it is the students’ own effort without falsification of any kind. Cheating or
plagiarism will not be tolerated. Any student found to plagiarise or cheat in
any part of their assignment will cause their assignment to be rejected and
further be subject to appropriate punishment.
c. Acknowledgement to the source must be made if students had relied on any
sources for information with appropriate reference being made in their work

and in accordance with Harvard referencing. References from the internet
e.g. Wikipedia and blogs are prohibited.
B. FORMAT OF COURSEWORK

This form is to be submitted together with the assignment to the lecturer during
lecture, week 8.
3. The written paper must comply with the following:
Paper : A4
Font type : Arial/ Times New Roman
Font size : 12
Paragraph line spacing : 1.5
4. Word limit:
No word limit but irrelevant materials added in could cause marks to be
deducted. Marks deducted could range between 1 to 10 marks depending on the
extent of irrelevant materials added in and subject to the discretion of the
examiner.
C. ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
1. Coursework 1 will contribute 50% out of the total 40% allocated for Coursework.
2. Assessment will be made on the basis of a written assignment alone. You are
NOT required to present your paper.
3. Written coursework will be assessed as shown in Appendix D as follows:
a. Students’ ability to:
i. Critically analyse and evaluate the question.
ii. Knowledge of concepts and principles of law.
iii. Application of knowledge in a clear, concise and convincing manner.
iv. The manner of conclusion.
b. Clarity of language and grammar.
c. Format/style/layout.

D. SUBMISSION DEADLINE
a. Questions for coursework 1 would be up-loaded in week 6.
b. The written assignment must be submitted on Week 8 to your Tutors during
tutorials. Failure to comply with the deadline would cause the assignment
to be rejected.
c. Marked assignments will be returned by week 12.

INSTRUCTIONS: ANSWER ALL THE QUESTIONS BELOW
Annie has recently joined R & R Sdn. Bhd., which sells organic beauty products, as the
Personal Assistant (PA) to the Managing Director (MD) of the company. During the first
week in her new role, Annie has been asked to work with the staffs of R & R Sdn. Bhd.
to arrange the following tasks:
• Promote their latest range organic facial masks called the Relaxer through an
advertisement campaign that claims that wrinkles will completely disappear if the
mask is used following the instructions provided on the package for a continues
period of 1 month, failing which, the customer will be treated to a free spa worth
RM500;
• Conduct an auction to sell off unsold organic make up kits from last season;
Furthermore, since Annie has learnt Business Law during her degree, the company MD
has related the following situations to her:
(a) Sasha, who is 14 years old, ordered 35 pieces of their organic lipsticks. Upon taking
delivery of the order, she refuses to pay for the lipsticks as she says she doesn’t have
the money.
(b) A van was purchased for purposes of delivering the company products to their
customers. Bakar, the office driver, signed the contract of sale and handed over the
cheque from R & R Sdn. Bhd. as payment for the van.
The MD has asked Annie to advise the respective heads of department on the following
matters.
(1) Advise the marketing department on:
a. Melissa’s claim for a free spa worth RM 500 because she has been using the
Relaxer continuously following the instructions on the package for over a
month but with no improvement on the condition of the wrinkles on her face.

b. By referring to a decided case, explain the legally correct manner to conduct
an auction as they have never conducted an auction before. (4 marks)
(2) Advise the sales department if they are able to claim for payment for the lipsticks
from Sasha. (17 marks)
(3) Advise the logistics department on whether the company will be able to sue the van
company of the delivery van as it has major engine defects which causes the van to be
out of use at least three (3) to four (4) days a week. (3 marks)
(Sub-total: 28 marks)
