This document outlines best practices for implementing a Master Data Management (MDM) solution to improve data quality. MDM can help by providing a single source of trusted customer, product, and partner data across systems. When implementing MDM, organizations should follow best practices like establishing formal data governance policies, using architecture consistent with existing IT systems, demonstrating a clear business case and ROI, taking a phased approach while making MDM a long-term program, and ensuring active vendor support. Following these practices can help organizations realize the benefits of MDM like increased revenue, cost savings, and regulatory compliance.
There are many potential sources of customer activity data that can be captured and analyzed to understand customer behavior better in real-time, including: operational systems, web/clickstream data, social media, conversations and sensors. The document discusses delivering data governance with data intelligence software. It begins with introductions of the authors and an agenda for the discussion. It then outlines how data in the digital transformation era is dynamic, diverse and distributed across hybrid cloud environments. This complexity leads to inefficiencies like 81% of time being spent searching for and preparing data with only 20% left for analysis. Data intelligence software can help by providing data discovery, cataloging and profiling to answer the "5 W's of data" and build trust. The document prescribes a three step plan for organizations to deliver trusted data using data intelligence software: 1) discover and clean data, 2) organize and empower data stewards, 3) automate and enable self service access
The document discusses how implementing a three step data governance plan including discover and cleanse data, organize and empower data stewards, and automate and enable trusted data can help businesses deliver trusted data at speed. It provides examples of how data governance addresses business drivers like improving productivity, managing risks, and enabling analytics. The document also presents use cases for data governance and a demo of how it works in action for a sports company.
This document discusses delivering data privacy and compliance through establishing a data privacy hub. It outlines three key steps: 1) Know your data by capturing and tracking personal data through data cataloging. 2) Reconcile data using customer 360 degree views. 3) Take control of personal data through data stewardship and protecting data using techniques like data masking. It then provides examples of how major companies in hospitality, transportation, banking, and charities are using these approaches to gain control over personal data flows, enable personalization while respecting privacy, and streamline access rights fulfillment.

Enacting the Data Subjects Access Rights for GDPR with Data Services and Data...Jean-Michel Franco
The document discusses how to enact data subject access rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) using data services and data management. It notes that the top three challenges for GDPR compliance are consent management, the right to be forgotten, and data portability. It then presents a use case of how a company called ACME can personalize customer experience in a GDPR-compliant way by creating a GDPR data hub to find customer opt-in data, propagate that data across systems, and deliver data subject access rights like access, erasure, and portability through a customer portal. The document argues this approach can help companies achieve GDPR compliance while gaining business, IT, and risk benefits.

Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software FuzzingAftab Hussain
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
Speakers:

Climate Impact of Software Testing at Nordic Testing DaysKari Kakkonen
My slides at Nordic Testing Days 6.6.2024
Climate impact / sustainability of software testing discussed on the talk. ICT and testing must carry their part of global responsibility to help with the climat warming. We can minimize the carbon footprint but we can also have a carbon handprint, a positive impact on the climate. Quality characteristics can be added with sustainability, and then measured continuously. Test environments can be used less, and in smaller scale and on demand. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.
