3. 1. INTRODUCTION
Our Business Continuity Policy Statement descibes the strategy which we have in
place to deal with the various identifi ed business risks including actions needed if
and when a serious unexpected event occurs that impacts on the normal conduct
of our business.
The procedures and policy are reviewed on an annual basis and updates will be
accessible in the Staff Handbook and placed on the Company’s Intranet.

4. 2. LEGISLATION
In 2004, following crises in the preceding years, the UK government passed the Civil
Contingencies Act 2004. It provides the legislation for civil protection in the UK. The
Act states that businesses need to have continuity planning measures in place in
order to survive and continue to thrive by working towards keeping the impact of
unexpected incidents as minimal as possible.
3. BEST PRACTICE FRAMEWORK
In December 2006, the British Standards Institution (BSI) released an independent
standard— BS 25999-1. This includes industry and its sectors. The standard provides
a best practice framework to minimise disruption during unexpected events
that could bring business to a standstill. The document sets out a framework for
planning to deal with most eventualities – from extreme weather conditions to
terrorism, IT system failure and staff sickness. This document was superseded
in November 2012 by the British standard BS ISO22301:2012. Pathway Group is
committed to working within this framework.
4. OUR POLICY AND PROCEDURES
We will seek to ensure that everyone in the organisation understands its purposes
including the services it delivers and to what deadlines we work and who is
involved both internally and externally and that there is an acceptance of business
continuity planning as a part of the normal business of the organisation with
everyone involved in the process of ensuring business continuity.
The plan will assess the risks to our business including from:
• Power Cuts
• Extreme Weather
• Staff Illnesses
• Fire
• Flood/Water-leak
• Theft/Break-in
• Inability to gain access to our business premises.
The strategy is to deal with the various identifi ed business risks including identifying
actions needed and declare who needs to perform these actions and where i.e. on
site or at a diff erent location.

5. The implementation strategy will ensure that there are contact details available and
a list of resources and procedures set out in the plan. Most importantly our Business
Continuity Planning policy supports our policy of as far as is possible seeking to
ensure continuity, disaster prevention and total business recovery.
The plan will set out strategies to deal with the various identifi ed business risks
including actions needed and who needs to perform these actions and where i.e. on
site or at a diff erent location.
The implementation strategy will ensure that there are contact details available and
a list of resources and procedures.
The Business Continuity Plan (BCP) will be tested and updated on a regular basis in
a way that involves all staff ensuring that everyone is familiar with their roles and
what to expect.
In view of the relative complexity of our business including multi- site service
delivery, it is necessary that the BCP includes a list of contacts available and
procedures that refl ect the spread of administration and services delivery across
diff erent Pathway Group locations and sites where we are working in other
employers/ organisations premises.
5. DESIGNATED OFFICERS
Staff with centre management responsibilities and team leaders and departmental
managers will play a key role in contributing to the BCP both in terms of planning,
providing contact details and the implementation of the recovery process. Their
details along with site specifi c procedures will be appended to the Staff Handbook
and on the Pathway Group Intranet. The Operations Manager is responsible for the
overall co-ordination of BCP planning activities and implementation. The Director is
responsible for BCP strategy and the annual review process.
