Final Project - Analyze the exchange rate risk of India Rupee and the risk vis-à-vis the U.S.
Non-Japan Asia (NJA) currencies have weakened in the past four weeks, led by sharp falls in the INR, THB and IDR (Figure 1). Rising oil prices and tepid exports are amongst the common factors behind this currency weakness.
But precedent suggests that outside of periods of major financial shocks, these bouts of currency depreciation are reasonably shallow and short-lived and typically followed by similarly shallow and short-lived bouts of currency appreciation (Figure 2). It’s a similar picture for the CNY (Figure 3).
This pattern of mean-reversion reflects in part the ebbs and flows of foreign FX flows and seasonality of current account flows. Importantly, it also reflects NJA central banks’ willingness and ability to smooth the path of their currencies via FX (and verbal) intervention. They have to balance the competitiveness of their currencies and large export sectors on the one hand with imported inflation and the cost of servicing foreign-currency denominated debt on the other.
Olivier Desbarres - Asian currencies sticking to scriptOlivier Desbarres
Despite the volatility in financial markets, Non-Japan Asia (NJA) currencies continue to behave broadly in line with historical patterns. Specifically, a basket of NJA currencies (excluding the renminbi) which was appreciating at about 3% month-on-month versus the USD dollar is now weakening in month-on-month terms, as largely predicted (see Figure 1). The pattern is similar when NJA currencies are measured against trading partner currencies.
Non-Japan Asian (NJA) currencies have appreciated versus the US dollar and currencies of their main trading partners in October. But the historical pattern of monthly appreciation/depreciation suggests that this Asian currency rally may start losing steam in coming weeks, with currencies eventually weakening modestly versus the US dollar.

Will US stronger US relative economic performance continue? Hantec Markets
With the US Government shutdown coming to an end, delayed US data will begin to filter through and after the dovish shift from the Fed it will be interesting to see if US economic outperformance continues to show and how this impacts on the dollar. We look at the key factors impacting on forex, equities and commodities this week.
China remains key as market sentiment is still under pressureHantec Markets
Non-farm Payrolls does little to change what we already knew. I also believe that it will do little to change the market’s view that there will be just two rate hikes in 2016. Inflation is just not present in the system and this payrolls report will do little to convince any doubters on the FOMC that it will be coming through any time soon.
US inflation will be crucial across forex markets this weekHantec Markets
The strong Non-farm Payrolls report has caused a tremor for markets that had been previously pricing for a new Fed rate cutting cycle being implemented. We look at what has changed and the implications on forex, equities and commodities markets.
As we expected, markets in 2014 have been less
influenced by politics and policymakers than in 2013
and more dependent upon growth. Growth is an
essential characteristic of all living things, and in
2014, growth is vital to our outlook for the economy
and markets. Our notes from the field contain
key observations and reaffirm our forecasts. Read the entire report.

The common definition of exchange rate is the unexpected exchange rate changes, defined as the possible direct loss. In order to manage this, we need to determine the type of current risk exposed and encountered.

Impact of Inflation and GDP Of India And the United States on Its Foreign Exc...GurpreetSingh1986
- As various countries are now getting global and are opening their market for foreign companies, various
investors are investing in those countries, which means the demand for currency is increasing, affecting the
currency exchange rate.
In this research paper, the author tries to establish the relation between macroeconomic variables like
Inflation and GDP on the currency exchange rate. The author has collected the secondary data of Inflation rate
and GDP and tries to see its relationship with the currency exchange rate system. The author has used a correlation
and regression model to analyze the relationship between the dependent and independent variables.
What Is an Exchange Rate Mechanism (ERM)?
An exchange rate mechanism (ERM) is a set of procedures used to manage a country's currency exchange rate relative to other currencies. It is part of an economy's monetary policy and is put to use by central banks.
Such a mechanism can be employed if a country utilizes either a fixed exchange rate or one with a constrained floating exchange rate that is bounded around its peg (known as an adjustable peg or crawling peg).
The Indian Rupee stayed in a fairly tight range during the month of September as a number of factors worked in its favour to keep the RBI busy in preventing a runaway appreciation of the currency. Touching 72.85 briefly on 1st September after the shock withdrawal of RBI support for the USD at 74.80 levels through July and August the dollar received support for
the month of September as the RBI continued to add to its foreign exchange reserves
The Indian rupee’s recent roller-coaster ride has impacted virtually every section of society. It has hit the country’s finances, eroded investor confidence, pushed down stock indices, pumped up fuel prices and, in turn, those of essentials.
The rupee’s slide is symptomatic of the concerns about the India story. Months of policy paralysis, political churn and social standoffs have taken their toll. It is in this backdrop that senior journalist Subhomoy Bhattacharjee analyses the prospects of the rupee in the cover story of the August edition of PAR, MSLGROUP India’s public affairs newsletter.
Another senior journalist, Kandula Subramaniam, puts into perspective the power crisis the country is up against and the dilemma state electricity companies are facing.
Additionally, you'll also find an analysis of India's bold food security law as well as an update of important policy announcements and reviews in this issue.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
