Bulimia nervosa is an eating disorder characterized by recurrent binge eating followed by compensatory behaviors like self-induced vomiting or laxative abuse. Its key symptoms are binge eating, purging, and extreme concern with body weight and shape. Bulimia can have serious health consequences like electrolyte imbalances and heart problems due to dehydration and dental issues from stomach acid. Warning signs include evidence of binge eating and purging, excessive exercise, swelling in the face or hands, and tooth discoloration. Bulimia affects mostly young women and can damage the entire digestive system if left untreated.

Improving the lives of those suffering from psychiatric and behavioral disorders is what we strive to achieve at the CNS Center of Arizona. Our psychiatrists specialize in severe and dual neuropsychiatric disorders. They understand and care for the patient medically, emotionally, socially, and spiritually. They teach what they know to patients and their families. This approach, we have found, helps empower patients to manage their lives, over time, and achieve the best outcome possible. Our approach at CNS Center of Arizona is a collaborative model of care involving other professionals and therapists. We expect patients who are currently in therapy to maintain contact with their primary therapist. CNS Center AZ

Increasing number of individuals is being diagnosed with eating disorders, as social media and western culture portray thinness as signs of happiness and well-being. Individuals with eating disorders are obsessed with food, body image, and weight loss. Depending on the severity and duration of their illness, they may display physical symptoms such as weight loss, amenorrhea, loss of interest in sex, low blood pressure, depressed body temperature, chronic and unexplained vomiting and the growth of soft, fine hair on the body and face.
