By saying- “are we proud of our work?”
INTRINSIC MOTIVATION
  Example – student tells me they are
   finished versus, “I think I’m done Mr.
   Goble, can you look at it?”
  The “I think I’m done” saying means
   they have only just begun!

  • 3. Set Expectations Goals and purpose of your program Who do you want to be? What do you want to do? What kind of television or film program do you want? all online? TV presence? straight news? variety show? Master 1 skill at a time
  • 4. Brand an image Publication name = LHS-TV  partner with print for 1 media source? Logo/shirts/posters/word of mouth Builds TEAM mentality Great way to recruit kids
  • 5. Publish your work SchoolTube.com “The work the kids do extends well beyond the walls in which they produce it.” YouTube.com Online site/blogs Social Media
  • 6. Work on your own & with students Model what you want and how you want it done “Professional Shoots” If you don’t know, learn with your students! Builds community
  • 7. Master one skill at a time It’s all storytelling News features PSA’s Music Videos Sports Videos
  • 8. Be Deadline Driven Students will work up to the deadline – whenever you set it! Set the deadline days before you need to actually meet it Tell students it takes that many classes to package the show Follow through and don’t air or upload late assignments
  • 9. Funding Administrative support Grants Free resources Prove your worth! Tell POSITIVE stories/minimize controversy to begin
  • 10. Tell positive stories about the people Highlight unique students, teachers, counselors, principals, etc… “If you want to work on negative news stories, you’ll have ample opportunity when you work for FOX News.”
  • 11. Contests are NOT the gauge for success Contests get exposure for students work, and it sounds good to administrators, but... Contests can be very political Can dictate your curriculum, but... Can provide staff pride
  • 12. How do we gauge success? By the number of organizations we can help By telling powerful stories By having thousands of hits on SchoolTube for our student videos By the number of the students who major in broadcast or film in college, and the schools they get accepted.
  • 13. How do we gauge success? By saying- “are we proud of our work?” INTRINSIC MOTIVATION  Example – student tells me they are finished versus, “I think I’m done Mr. Goble, can you look at it?”  The “I think I’m done” saying means they have only just begun!
