This document discusses mainstreaming disaster risk reduction (DRR) into climate change adaptation (CCA) in Latin America. It provides background information on Latin America, including that it has over 600 million people and has experienced over $262 million in losses from 328 disasters between 1970 and 2009. It then discusses relevant past disasters in Latin America and the initial links between DRR and CCA. Key findings from a case study in Chiapas, Mexico include identifying knowledge fragmentation. The document also outlines seminars held between Latin America and Europe focused on sharing knowledge around DRR and CCA.
