Bridging Socially-Enhanced Virtual Communities

Interactions spanning multiple organizations have become an important aspect in today’s collaboration landscape. Organizations create alliances to fulfill strategic objectives. The dynamic nature of collaborations increasingly demands for automated techniques and algorithms to support the creation of such alliances. Our approach bases on the recommendation of potential alliances by discovery of currently relevant competence sources and the support of semi-automatic formation. The environment is service-oriented comprising humans and software services with distinct capabilities. To mediate between previously separated groups and organizations, we introduce the broker concept that bridges disconnected networks. Here we present a dynamic broker discovery approach based on interaction mining techniques and trust metrics.

The Flemish Government in Belgium has an interoperability program called Open Standards for Linked Organizations (OSLO), which focuses on both technical and semantical interoperability of data and systems used for (digital) government service delivery.
On the semantical level, information is aligned with European standards (ISA² Core Vocabularies and INSPIRE), enriched by data extensions to comply with the local context. On the technical level, we developed RESTFul APIs which build upon the principles of Linked Data.
The API conforms to the Flemish URI standard1, describing how data resources can be exposed using persistent and “cool” URIs2, in line with international best practices. Because of its extensibility and since it is already a standard for data interchange on the web, Flemish Administrations have chosen the Resource Description Framework (RDF) to facilitate the creation and reuse of machine-readable data.
Efficient retrieval of web services using prioritization and clustering
This document discusses efficient retrieval of web services using prioritization and clustering. It proposes determining dominance relationships among service advertisements that considers multiple parameter degree of match (PDM) criteria. It introduces methods for prioritizing and clustering web services based on similarity measures and efficient algorithms like Transaction Knowledge Data Discovery (TKDD). The implementation retrieves web service description files, captures input/output parameters, compares them using similarity measures like Cosine and Jaccard, computes dominance scores, and prioritizes and clusters the retrieved web services.

the web, the need for web services composition is becoming more and more important. Nowadays, for
answering complex needs of users, the construction of new web services based on existing ones is required.
This problem is known as web services composition. However, it is one of big challenge problems of recent
years in a distributed and dynamic environment. The various approaches in field of web service
compositions proposed by the researchers. In this paper we present a review of existing approaches for
web service composition and compare them among each other with respect to some key requirements. We
hope this paper helps researchers to focus on their efforts and to deliver lasting solutions in this field.

Text preprocessing and document classification plays a vital role in web services discovery. Nearest centroid classifiers were mostly employed in high-dimensional application including genomics. Feature selection is a major problem in all classifiers and in this paper we propose to use an effective feature selection procedure followed by web services discovery through Centroid classifier algorithm. The task here in this problem statement is to effectively assign a document to one or more classes. Besides being simple and robust, the centroid classifier s not effectively used for document classification due to the computational complexity and larger memory requirements. We address these problems through dimensionality reduction and effective feature set selection before training and testing the classifier. Our preliminary experimentation and results shows that the proposed method outperforms other algorithms mentioned in the literature including K-Nearest neighbors, Naive Bayes classifier and Support Vector Machines.

Fedora
The Fedora Project provides an open source digital object repository system with extensible models and scalable storage. It exposes repository functions via web service APIs and supports use cases in content management, digital libraries, asset management, and scholarly publishing. Prior commercial systems had narrow focuses and lacked interoperability and extensibility. Fedora aims to overcome these shortcomings through its flexible data model, web services approach, and ability to associate behaviors and services with digital objects.

IEEE ISM 2008: Kalman Graffi: A Distributed Platform for Multimedia Communities
Online community platforms and multimedia content delivery are merging in recent years. Current platforms like Facebook and YouTube are client-server based which result in high administration costs for the provider. In contrast to that peer-to-peer systems offer scalability and low costs, but are limited in their functionality. In this paper we present a framework for peer-to-peer based multimedia online communities.We identified the key challenges for this new application of the peer-to-peer paradigm and built a plugin based, easily extendible and multifunctional framework. Further, we identified distributed linked lists as valuable data structure to implement the user profiles, friend lists, groups, photo albums and more. Our framework aims at providing the functionality of common online community platforms combined with the multimedia delivery capabilities of modern peer-to-peer systems, e.g. direct multimedia delivery and access to a distributed multimedia pool.

This is the presentation we gave at the Open-Ed conference November 2-4, 2010.
We mainly presented Cohere, a social software from KMi (knowledge media Institute) of the Open University UK, as tool to make virtual ethnography and behavioural observations of users' web interactions. We also presented on use case in which cohere has been used to observe learners interactions in a P2PU course.

FaceTag is a working prototype of a semantic collaborative tagging tool conceived for bookmarking information architecture resources.
It aims to show how the widespread homogeneous and flat keywords' space created by users while tagging can be effectively mixed with a richer faceted classification scheme to improve the �information scent� and �berrypicking� capabilities of the system. The additional semantic structure is aggregated both implicitly observing user behaviour and explicitly introducing a compelling user experience that facilitates the end-user creation of relationships between tags.
FaceTag current implementation is written in PHP / SQL and includes an open API which allows querying and integration from other applications.

Collective adaptive systems (CASs) have been researched intensively since many years. However, the recent emerging developments and advanced models in service-oriented computing, cloud computing and human computation have fostered several new forms of CASs. Among them, Hybrid and Diversity-aware CASs (HDA-CASs) characterize new types of CASs in which a collective is composed of hybrid machines and humans that collaborate together with different complementary roles. This emerging HDA-CAS poses several research chal
lenges in terms of programming, management and provisioning. In this paper, we investigate the main issues in programming HDA-CASs. First, we analyze context characterizing HDA-CASs. Second, we propose to use the concept of hybrid compute units to implement HDA-CASs that can be elastic. We call this type of HDA-CASs h2 CAS (Hybrid Compute Unit-based HDA-CAS). We then discuss a meta-view of h2CAS that describes a h 2 CAS program. We analyze and present program features for h2CAS in four main different contexts.

Context-aware Programming for Hybrid and Diversity-aware Collective Adaptive ...
Collective adaptive systems (CASs) have been researched intensively since many years. However, the recent emerging developments and advanced models in service-oriented computing, cloud computing and human computation have fostered several new forms of CASs. Among them, Hybrid and Diversity-aware CASs (HDA-CASs) characterize new types of CASs in which a collective is composed of hybrid machines and humans that collaborate together with different complementary roles. This emerging HDA-CAS poses several research chal
lenges in terms of programming, management and provisioning. In this paper, we investigate the main issues in programming HDA-CASs. First, we analyze context characterizing HDA-CASs. Second, we propose to use the concept of hybrid compute units to implement HDA-CASs that can be elastic. We call this type of HDA-CASs h2 CAS (Hybrid Compute Unit-based HDA-CAS). We then discuss a meta-view of h2CAS that describes a h 2 CAS program. We analyze and present program features for h2CAS in four main different contexts.

On the Elasticity of Social Compute Units @ CAiSE2014

Apps Break Data
How information systems are built or acquired puts information, which is what they should be about, in a secondary place. Our language adapted accordingly, and we no longer talk about information systems but applications. Applications evolved in a way to break data into diverse fragments, tightly coupled with applications and expensive to integrate. The result is technical debt, which is re-paid by taking even bigger "loans", resulting in an ever-increasing technical debt. Mutation Testing for Task-Oriented Chatbots
Conversational agents, or chatbots, are increasingly used to access all sorts of services using natural language. While open-domain chatbots - like ChatGPT - can converse on any topic, task-oriented chatbots - the focus of this paper - are designed for specific tasks, like booking a flight, obtaining customer support, or setting an appointment. Like any other software, task-oriented chatbots need to be properly tested, usually by defining and executing test scenarios (i.e., sequences of user-chatbot interactions). However, there is currently a lack of methods to quantify the completeness and strength of such test scenarios, which can lead to low-quality tests, and hence to buggy chatbots.
To fill this gap, we propose adapting mutation testing (MuT) for task-oriented chatbots. To this end, we introduce a set of mutation operators that emulate faults in chatbot designs, an architecture that enables MuT on chatbots built using heterogeneous technologies, and a practical realisation as an Eclipse plugin. Moreover, we evaluate the applicability, effectiveness and efficiency of our approach on open-source chatbots, with promising results.

Power Grid Model
The global energy transition is placing new and unprecedented demands on Distribution System Operators (DSOs). Alongside upgrades to grid capacity, processes such as digitization, capacity optimization, and congestion management are becoming vital for delivering reliable services.
Power Grid Model is an open source project from Linux Foundation Energy and provides a calculation engine that is increasingly essential for DSOs. It offers a standards-based foundation enabling real-time power systems analysis, simulations of electrical power grids, and sophisticated what-if analysis. In addition, it enables in-depth studies and analysis of the electrical power grid’s behavior and performance. This comprehensive model incorporates essential factors such as power generation capacity, electrical losses, voltage levels, power flows, and system stability.
Power Grid Model is currently being applied in a wide variety of use cases, including grid planning, expansion, reliability, and congestion studies. It can also help in analyzing the impact of renewable energy integration, assessing the effects of disturbances or faults, and developing strategies for grid control and optimization.

One essential component to orchestrating complex automations is the use of attributes & automation parameters (both formerly known as “keys”). Its core banking applications run on the mainframe and Citizens was using legacy utilities to get the critical mainframe data to feed customer-facing channels, like call centers, web, and mobile. Ultimately, this led to higher operating costs (MIPS), delayed response times, and longer time to market.

The first topic is CVE (Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures). I have published CVEs many times. But what exactly is a CVE? I'll provide a basic understanding of CVEs and explain how to detect and handle vulnerabilities in OSS.
Next, let's discuss package managers. Package managers play a critical role in the OSS ecosystem. I'll explain how to manage library dependencies in your application.
I'll share insights into how the Ruby and RubyGems core team works to keep our ecosystem safe. By the end of this talk, you'll have a better understanding of how to safeguard your code.
