Elvis started a new wave of music influencing such bands as The Beatles and the Kinks. Other bands during the time such as The Who and other bands maximized their sound amplitude and put a heavier edge on 1960’s British rock. The Rolling Stones were another band caught in the 1960’s British rock that started off with blues and jazz beginnings.
The Beatles originated in Liverpool during the new wave consisting of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr. The Beatles became very popular throughout the years but ended up in John Lennon’s assassination and George Harrisons Death. Most People would say the Beatles changed the history of music. The Who changed 1960’s British rock into a heavier, louder, more powerful sound. Their drummer died of a drug overdose but was considered one of the greatest drummers of all time. The Who also created neo-classical rock during the end of the 60’s. Over all The Who and The Beatles were revolutionary bands that changed the music and era of the 60’s based on roots of jazz, blues, and classical beginnings.
Most lyrics in the artist’s songs are moderate/fast in tempo. The lyrics contain blues influence such as the song I Feel Fine by The Beatles. Most songs include call and response also and a 16 bar pattern. Songs such as My Generation by The Who include drums, 2 guitars, a bass, and a vocalist like most bands did from that generation (haha).
I feel The Beatles best represented the 1960’s British rock because after Elvis they revolutionized rock and influenced people and band all over the world. The formation of organized bands and the heaviness included in the music out of jazz and blues influences is unique about this decade. I enjoyed The Beatles, Cream, The Rolling Stones, and The Who but I did not enjoy The Kinks. I don’t know of any other bands that I would recommend listening to in this subgenre
