   Explained in a Pitstop
What are memes and how can they
help you name brands and products?
Meme’s are anything that creates a link in your
mind. They describe the rapid spread of ideas in
the form of text, images, video or catchphrases.
Memes have become even more popular through
the viral spread of information on the Internet and
via Social Networks.
Memes and Brand Naming
Memes are like genes: they are the building
blocks of words. They can be used as a quick
way to invent brand names. It’s how some big
brands created their names.
Think:
Let’s look at how we use memes
to come up with brand names…
- that are original.
- that can be easily registered as
  brands and web domains.
Let’s use a garden chair as
an example:
Step 1:
List your products features,
benefits and keywords.
e.g. Sun
      Relax
      Ergonomics
      Portable
Step 2:
Now take the 2 words
from that list that best
describe your brand
or product.
Step 3:
Break these words up
as much as you can
without losing their
meaning.
Step 4:
Now join the words in
different ways to create
meme brand names.
Once you have done this with 2 words
try others from your list.
You’ll be amazed how many names you can
get with this technique!
