In this presentation, Raunak talks about an innovative project on "Brain Computer Interface". This project uses signal processing, analytics and databases. The project has the potential to transform the lives of disabled.
2. INTRODUCTION
A BCI, Brain Computer interface, sometimes called
Mind Machine Interface is a direct communication
between brain and an external device which assists
in repairing human cognitive or sensory motor
function. The field of BCI research focuses primarily
on neural prosthetics applications that aim at
restoring damaged hearing, sight and movement.
This project aims to build a automated
microcontroller based decision system which
creates a BCI.
3. The project will comprise of following stages:
1. Biomedical data acquisition
2. Filtering the signals to remove noise
3. Feeding of signals to microcontroller
4. Processing of signals or Decision making by microcontroller
5. Generating required output.
4. BENEFITS OF THE PROJECT
The project can be understood as a multi-stage
hybrid (analog and digital) process, where
biomedical signals are acquired and converted to
the form accepted by the microcontroller, which
process the input and generates output, as per the
input, and then the output is fed respectively to the
required electrical devices. The electrical devices
will substitute a motor, sensory or cognitive
modality that might have been damaged as a result
of an injury or a disease. Through the replacement
or augmentation of damaged senses, these devices
intend to improve the quality of life for those with
disabilities.
5. THANK YOU
Interest Areas:
O Due to involvement with microcontroller based projects I
have grown much interest in working with it. My area of
interest lies in programming and control of the
actuators substituting a motor, sensory or cognitive
modality.
O As microcontroller is compact, so this product which
creates BCI, will be portable and hence more influential
and effective. This would be an innovative approach.
O If provided a chance, I would like to prepare this product
which would renovate the life of any disabled. On the other
hand it will also prepare mind controlled robots which
will be a great leap for the industrial automation. To
understand brain signals we will require proper database
management and for high speed comparison IT and
analytical tools will be needed. This project involves
interfacing with different hardware which requires
programming mostly in C and assembly language. This
could be an interdisciplinary project beneficial to both
company and the intern.
