Investigating the MRI Safety Knowledge of Healthcare Workers: A Cross-section...
The primary objective of this study was to investigate the basic knowledge of MRI and MRI safety among specific groups of healthcare workers at King Abdullah Medical City (KAMC) between May and June 2023. The research design employed a quantitative-descriptive approach, and data were collected from 63 qualified healthcare workers at KAMC. Statistical methods, including frequency count, t-test, weighted mean, and Pearson correlation, were applied to analyze the collected data. The study's findings indicated that doctors exhibited a high level of knowledge regarding the fundamental principles of MRI and MRI safety among the healthcare workers assessed. Moreover, the results showed that a greater amount of clinical experience was associated with a higher level of proficiency in MRI fundamentals. Further, anesthesiology technicians and nurses demonstrated inadequate knowledge in the areas of MRI safety. The study also revealed that there was no significant correlation between profession, years of clinical experience, level of education, and the level of knowledge in MRI safety. Additionally, the study concluded that there was no significant correlation between possessing a basic understanding of MRI and the level of knowledge in MRI safety. In simpler terms, having a good grasp of MRI does not necessarily guarantee a higher level of expertise in terms of safety protocols and practices.

The purpose of this writing assignment is to encourage students to apply the knowledge of safe operation of specialised X-ray imaging equipment learnt from the unit into the clinical workplace. The safe operation of equipment encompasses the aspects of radiation protection, electromechanical safety and clinical utilisation in compliance with appropriate regulations and standards. Awareness and practice of safe operation are crucial in imaging practice. Infringement may lead to serious issues such as injury and even death. Quality Assurance (Q A) program is one way to minimize the likelihood of occurrence of such issues (Option 1). Another preventive measure is education to increase practitioners’ awareness and knowledge (Option 2).
Some students may have difficulties to get access to specialised X-ray imaging equipment during clinical placement / semester. In this situation, you can select Option 2. In this option, students are required to identify a particular X-ray imaging system (e.g. manufacturer A – model YYY mobile X-ray machine) through different manufacturers’ websites (some examples are given below) and develop a safe operation guide for it. The identified system must be within the ranges of systems for portable / mobile radiography, tomography, fluoroscopy, mammography and angiography. The main purpose of this guide is to educate practitioners the safe operation principles of a particular system. The following is the list of required contents for Option 2.

An approach for radiation dose reduction in computerized tomography
Minimization of radiation dose plays an important role in human wellbeing. Excess of radiation dose leads to cancer. Radiation greatly affects young children less than 10 years of age as their life span is longer. Radiation can be reduced by hardware and/or by software techniques. Hardware methods deal with variation of parameters such as tube voltage, tube current, exposure time, focal distance and filter type. Software techniques include image processing methods. The originally acquired X-ray images may be contaminated with noise due to the fact of instability in the case of sensors, electrical power or X-ray source, that is responsible for the degradation of the image attributes. An enhanced image denoising algorithm has been proposed which decreases Gaussian noise combined with salt and pepper noise that retains most information particulars.

A Review of Super Resolution and Tumor Detection Techniques in Medical Imaging
Images with high resolution are desirable in many applications such as medical imaging, video surveillance, astronomy etc. In medical imaging, images are obtained for medical investigative purposes and for providing information about the anatomy, the physiologic and metabolic activities of the volume below the skin. Medical imaging is an important diagnosis instrument to determine the presence of certain diseases. In Radiotherapy, medical physicists play a key role in the provision of the radiotherapy service as a whole.
Intra Report- St. James' Hospital Medical Physics
The MPBE department (Medical Physics and Bioengineering) provides technical services to the hospital by taking care of medical equipment, the calibration of imaging equipment as well as services to ensuring the safe operation of equipment. The medical physicists also provide services in nuclear medicine. Radioiodine therapy is a service the hospital provides, one of my major goals setting out to work at St. James’s was to learn about radiotherapy, I had a role looking though research papers to try and find information which could help with the way the radioiodine therapy the hospital provides is given, that role was elegantly supported with other relevant work, such as contamination monitoring and experimental work which built an amazing knowledgebase for me. I took part in the NIMIS project and delivered a presentation on a new piece of dose tracking software to the MPBE department.
I carried out many other short term roles which served to develop me in many areas within and including science, IT and engineering as well as developing my people skills. I learned how to interact on a technical level with an interdisciplinary team. As well as gain an understanding of team dynamics, organizational and project management. The experience was very enriching all-around and I would gladly recommend it to future students as an INTRA placement.

A Survey on Segmentation Techniques Used For Brain Tumor Detection
In recent years Brain tumor is one of the most commonly found causes for death among
children and adults. Early detection of tumor is a must in order to reduce the death rate. For tumor
detection various image techniques can be used. In this paper we mainly concentrate on the images
obtained from MRI scans. In MRI images, the tumor may appear clearly, but for further treatment
the physician need to be a qualified and well experienced person. In order to help the radiologist in
detection computer-aided diagnosis was developed. The generation of a CAD system consists of
several processes and among them segmentation is considered to the most important process. Image
Segmentation is a process of partitioning an image into multiple segments. The main objective of
segmentation is to represent the image into a simplified form so as to increase the efficiency and
accuracy of the system. Therefore the segmentation of brain tumor can be considered as an important
role in the medical image process. Hence in this paper we concentrate on the recently used
segmentation techniques for the detection of tumor using MRI images.
A Strategic Approach: GenAI in Education
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in Education
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
