2. INTRODUCTION
• Amputation is the intentional
surgical removal of a limb or body
part. It is performed to remove
diseased tissue or relieve pain or
due to Trauma.

3. ANESTHESIA
• DEPEND ON ANESTHESIOLOGIST WHAT ANESTHESIA HAVE TO
GIVE TO PATIENTS ACCORDING TO THE HEALTH CONDITION.
• TYPE OF ANESTHESIA:-
 General anesthesia: The patient “goes to sleep” while the
operation lasts.
 Sedation: Intravenous drugs calm the patient or make them
unaware of the procedure.
 Regional anesthesia: Local anesthetic is injected near the
nerves to numb the area that will be operated. These may
be nerve blocks or spinal or epidural injections.

4. • They monitor the patient’s bodily functions, assess the
best way to treat the vital organs, and provide a balance
of medications suited to the individual’s needs.
• The functions they need to monitor include:
 heart rate and rhythm
 breathing
 blood pressure
 body temperature
 fluid balance
• The anesthesiologist controls these vital measures and
the patient’s level of pain and unconsciousness
throughout the operation.

 The position for BKA is
“supine”.

7. DRUGS
• Spinal Anaesthesia:-
 Syringe- 10ml, 5ml, 2ml
 Needles- 16G, 18G, 23G
 Anawin heavy
 Needle 25G (orange colour)
 Bupivacaine 0.5% or 0.75%
 Loxicard
 Fentanyl
• General drugs given through IV line

Equipment:-
 Scalpel with blades.
 Dissection and cutting scissors.
 Retractors and handheld clamps.
 Needles holders, suture material (absorbable and non-
absorbable), and forceps (fine and toothed)
 Diathermy device.
 Bone instrument (e.g, saw, bone nibblers, osteotomes,
mallet, and curettes)
 Irrigation.

13. SURGICAL SUTURE
• Surgical suture is a medical
device used to hold body
tissue after an injury and
surgery.
• There are 3 type of suture:-
 First, suture material is
absorbable & non-
absorbable
 Second, suture material is
monofilament suture &
braided suture
 Third, suture material is
natural & synthetic
