The cardiovascular system consists of the heart, blood vessels, and blood circulation. There are three main types of blood vessels - arteries, veins, and capillaries. Arteries carry oxygen-rich blood from the heart to tissues, veins carry deoxygenated blood back to the heart, and capillaries facilitate the exchange of substances between blood and tissues at the cellular level. All blood vessels have three layers - the innermost tunica intima layer of endothelial cells, the middle tunica media layer of smooth muscle cells, and the outermost tunica externa layer of connective tissue.

Introduction
Blood vessels form a closed system of tubes that carry blood away from the heart, transport it to the tissues of the body, and then return it to the heart.
The blood vessels of human body carry blood to every tissue and organ.
Vessels decrease in size as they move away from the heart (arteries and arterioles), ending in the capillaries, and then increase in size as they move towards the heart (venules and veins)
The largest artery in the blood is Aorta.

The primary function of the heart is to serve as a muscular pump propelling blood into and through vessels to and from all parts of the body. The arteries, which receive this blood at high pressure and velocity and conduct it throughout the body, have thick walls that are composed of elastic fibrous tissue and muscle cells. The arterial tree—the branching system of arteries—terminates in short, narrow, muscular vessels called arterioles, from which blood enters simple endothelial tubes (i.e., tubes formed of endothelial, or lining, cells) known as capillaries. These thin, microscopic capillaries are permeable to vital cellular nutrients and waste products that they receive and distribute. From the capillaries, the blood, now depleted of oxygen and burdened with waste products, moving more slowly and under low pressure, enters small vessels called venules that converge to form veins, ultimately guiding the blood on its way back to the heart.

- 5. VEINS are blood vessels that carry blood towards the heart. Most veins carry deoxygenated blood from the tissues back to the heart, both of which carry oxygenated blood to the heart. Veins differ from arteries in structure and function; for example, arteries are more muscular than veins, veins are often closer to the skin and contain valves to help keep blood flowing toward the heart, while arteries carry blood away from the heart.
