Black holes are formed when giant stars collapse, leaving an intense gravitational field so strong that not even light can escape. The event horizon marks the point of no return for light and anything else, beyond which lies the singularity - an infinitely dense shrunken star. Galaxies come in different shapes - elliptical, spiral, and irregular - and can contain anything from individual stars to large groups of galaxies. Quasars are very bright and energetic objects located at the cores of distant galaxies that emit powerful radio waves and light.
