Budapest is widely known as a marvelous Central-Eastern capital by the Danube, with interesting history and architecture, attractive termal-baths and famous pubs - but who thinks Budapest to be a cycling-city?

Presentation on International Cycling Infrastructure a best practice study by Phil Jones from Phil Jones Associates for the Cycle City Event on 21st October 2014
This presentation highlights the importance of Roadspace Allocation within transport planning and illustrates how to develop a successful Roadspace Allocation Framework. Further to this the presentation gives an insight to understanding and meeting user requirements. It then progresses to utilise various case studies in Birmingham to further demonstrate how these frameworks can be put into practice.
LSCOG Bicycle and Pedestrian Regional Plan 2012LSCOG
This technical handbook is intended to assist LSCOG in the selection and design of pedestrian and bicycle facilities. The
following chapters pull together best practices by facility type from public agencies and municipalities nationwide. Within
the design chapters, treatments are covered within a single sheet tabular format relaying important design information
and discussion, example photos, schematics (if applicable), and existing summary guidance from current or upcoming draft
standards. Existing standards are referenced throughout and should be the first source of information when seeking to
implement any of the treatments featured here.

Track: Prosper
Format: 90 minute panel
Abstract: Relying solely on Level of Service criteria for street design, which evaluates vehicle congestion, leads to poor outcomes on many of our roadways. LOS F, far from a failure, creates opportunities to reallocate roadway space for more livable street designs. In this session, learn about projects in Cambridge and San Francisco that overcame opposition and generated community support in prioritizing better bicycling and walking over vehicle capacity during the peak hour of travel.

A summary of a recent grant application I wrote for the City of Ferndale and 5 other communities for a 17 mile bicycle route. The project was awarded over $200k in grant money and will be completed in late 2016.
This brochure describes the practical experiences of the cities’ introduction and extension of the usage of sharing schemes with traditional bicycles, electric bicycles as well as with electric and hybrid cars. Numerous advantages of sharing schemes are pointed out in the brochure. Besides saving money for the individual and improving the environment, the concept paves the way for multi-modal use of transport systems since the vehicle-sharing concept excels at high flexibility due to the independency of timetables and predetermined routes. Automated sharing systems can reliably be in operation year-round, day and night. Furthermore, the user freely chooses the fastest route to his destination not being bound to bus or train lines. In other words, a vehicle-sharing system adds customer value to the whole transport chain.

Esettanulmányokon alapuló cikkemben a településen belüli sebességkorlátozással kapcsolatos külföldi kutatási eredményeket és érvrendszert mutatom be. Eltérő közlekedési kultúrájú európai városok példáját vizsgálom, ahol az elmúlt tíz évben jelentős törekvések zajlottak a városközpontok és lakóterületek élhetőbbé, biztonságosabbá tételéért. A forgalomcsillapítási intézkedések közül elsősorban a 30 km/h megengedett legnagyobb sebességű zónák kiterjesztését és a városközpont területen alkalmazott „vegyes forgalmú utcák” kialakítását vizsgálom. A mérhető indikátorok esetén részletes kutatási eredményeket idézek számos európai városból. Az új urbanizmus elvrendszeréből kiindulva, áttekintem a néhány közepes méretű város átalakulásának folyamatát, a 30cities és citta30 mozgalom eredményei, az osztrák, német, olasz, spanyol tapasztalatok mintaként szolgálhatnak magyar települések számára is. A hazai bevezetés potenciálját is vizsgálom, és javaslatot teszek az utcatervezés paradigmaváltására, valamit a szükséges előtte-utána elvégzendő elemzésekre és a kísérő kommunikációra. Részletesebb hazai elemzést egy későbbi cikk fog tartalmazni. A „harminc a városban” mozgalom tulajdonképpen már elindult hazánkban, de a gyakorlati megvalósításhoz széleskörű diskurzus szükséges.
Based on case studies, I present research findings and arguments from Europe on speedlimited urban areas, through experiencies of a European cities, where over the last ten years there have been significant efforts to make city centres and residential areas more liveable and safer. Among the traffic calming measures, I focus on the extension of 30 km/h speed limit zones and 'mixed traffic streets'. Based on municipal announcements, press releases and policy documents, I review speed reduction efforts in some neighbouring countries. I track the original objectives, the decision-making and implementation process and the timing, follow-up researches and the public reception. For the measurable indicators, I cite detailed research results from a several European cities. Through the principles of new urbanism, I review the transformation process of some medium-sized cities, I show the results of the 30cities and citta30 movements. The Austrian, German, Italian and Spanish experiences can serve as a model for Hungarian municipalities, so I examine the potential of implementation and suggest a paradigmshift in street design, the necessary before and after analyses and accompanying communication. A more detailed hungarian analysis will be included in a future article. The "thirty city" movement is in fact already underway in our country, but a broad discourse is needed to put it into pra
