1) Snake and spider bites can cause a variety of symptoms depending on the species. Redback spider bites may cause abdominal pain in children and antivenom can be administered weeks after the bite.
2) For snake bites, the same protocols should apply throughout the Northern Territory as the most venomous snakes are the same. Blood tests can help determine if antivenom is needed.
3) While pressure immobilization is recommended first aid for snake bites, studies show it is often applied incorrectly and may not prevent venom absorption. Direct vascular absorption of venom can cause rapid envenoming in brown snake bites.
