A project produced and published in 2004 by Martin Hatchuel with private-sector funding as a gift to the Knysna National Lakes Area (now incorporated into the Garden Route National Park).
As described by the Cornell Bird Lab, putting up a feeder is an easy way to attract birds. But if you want to attract a wider variety of species, prefer your backyard birds to get a more natural diet, or wish to satisfy more than birds' nutritional needs, consider landscaping your yard—even just a part of it—to be more bird-friendly. Even a small yard can provide vital habitat. All it takes is a little time and effort, all the easier if you already enjoy gardening. The rewards are beautiful birds that add color and music to your life year-round. Many homeowners diligently follow the advice of providing water, bird feeders, and nesting boxes but don't know where to begin to provide natural food, shelter and nesting.
I've done some investigating of the best native plants (because that's what our birds evolved with) to support the birds indigenous to this area. The list is attached. And if you aren't convinced that native plants are the best food source, you should read recent research that counters the one or two studies showing that certain urban birds like Cardinals increase in number where there are invasions of exotic honeysuckles. Not surprisingly, these exotic fruit-bearing shrubs and vines nutrition is out of sync with the seasonal needs of our native birds. Furthermore, in the case of Cardinals, the bright coloration of males, which otherwise signals good health to females may be getting less reliable for cardinals in urban areas, because of the novel food sources available in town. Exotic plants also provide poorer nesting sites and may open the brood to predation, according to many scientific studies.

"Understanding the Carbon Cycle: Processes, Human Impacts, and Strategies for...MMariSelvam4
The carbon cycle is a critical component of Earth's environmental system, governing the movement and transformation of carbon through various reservoirs, including the atmosphere, oceans, soil, and living organisms. This complex cycle involves several key processes such as photosynthesis, respiration, decomposition, and carbon sequestration, each contributing to the regulation of carbon levels on the planet.
Human activities, particularly fossil fuel combustion and deforestation, have significantly altered the natural carbon cycle, leading to increased atmospheric carbon dioxide concentrations and driving climate change. Understanding the intricacies of the carbon cycle is essential for assessing the impacts of these changes and developing effective mitigation strategies.
By studying the carbon cycle, scientists can identify carbon sources and sinks, measure carbon fluxes, and predict future trends. This knowledge is crucial for crafting policies aimed at reducing carbon emissions, enhancing carbon storage, and promoting sustainable practices. The carbon cycle's interplay with climate systems, ecosystems, and human activities underscores its importance in maintaining a stable and healthy planet.
In-depth exploration of the carbon cycle reveals the delicate balance required to sustain life and the urgent need to address anthropogenic influences. Through research, education, and policy, we can work towards restoring equilibrium in the carbon cycle and ensuring a sustainable future for generations to come.
WRI’s brand new “Food Service Playbook for Promoting Sustainable Food Choices” gives food service operators the very latest strategies for creating dining environments that empower consumers to choose sustainable, plant-rich dishes. This research builds off our first guide for food service, now with industry experience and insights from nearly 350 academic trials.
UNDERSTANDING WHAT GREEN WASHING IS!.pdfJulietMogola
Many companies today use green washing to lure the public into thinking they are conserving the environment but in real sense they are doing more harm. There have been such several cases from very big companies here in Kenya and also globally. This ranges from various sectors from manufacturing and goes to consumer products. Educating people on greenwashing will enable people to make better choices based on their analysis and not on what they see on marketing sites.

ORNITHOLOGICAL ROUTES
CALPE
2. Ornithological tourism in Calpe
The ornithological tourism or birdwatching is a form of nature tourism in which bird
watching is the main motivation, although not necessarily the only one.
Some will be simply satisfied watching the birds or adding new species to their lists
while others will seek to immortalize it in a photograph.
However everyone is interested in the birds and habitats where they are, as well as
the knowledge of the traditional activities that shaped the landscape allowing the
maintenance of these habitats and its biodiversity.
And Calpe preserves some of the best habitats for birdwatching: the wetlands, along
with others of notable interest such as the sea cliffs and coastal mountains, all of
them full of history.
Las Salinas (the salt flats), the rock Peñón de Ifach or the mountain Morro de Toix,
the end of the mountain range Sierra de Bernia that borders the sea, as well as the
Sierra de Oltà will allow any “bird lover” to contemplate a great diversity of species
some of great interest for foreign birdwatchers because they are species exclusive to
the Mediterranean area.
We emphasize typical species of the salt flats like the emblematic Flamingo, Black-
winged Stilts, Avocets or several seagulls along with seabirds such as the European
Shag or the Balearic Shearwater with other equally interesting such as the blue Rock
Thrush or the Black Wheatear.
Due to its location on the eastern migratory route between Europe and Africa, the
diversity of species that use these natural spaces for nesting, wintering or migratory
stop increases the possibilities of birdwatching all year round.
Grab your binoculars and... come to Calpe!
3.
4. 1 Welfare of birds should come first.
Whether you are a birdwatcher, a photographer or simply a nature lover, you must keep in
mind that the welfare of the birds is ALWAYS the first.
2 Habitat must be protected.
Habitat is vital for birds, so all our activities should be respectful and not cause any damage.
We must leave everything as we find it.
3 Not to alter the behaviour of the birds at all.
The tolerance of the birds to the annoyances of the humans is different depending on
the species in question and the season. We must try not to disturb them at any time, but
especially in the breeding season, since we could cause abandonment of the nest, with the
consequent loss of the eggs. The same happens in winter, when the adverse conditions
cause a loss of energy which results very difficult to counteract. We must also take special
care during the migration, whether in autumn or spring.
4 If you find a species of bird in danger, inform, but carefully.
If you find an endangered species breeding and you think it needs protection, inform SEO
/ BirdLife as quickly as possible, at any of their offices. It is the best way to protect and
preserve it, but avoid divulging the exact location in other circles that can be used by egg
collectors or other collectives that may cause discomfort. In addition, it would constitute
very important information for the knowledge and protection of this species. The place
where the species raise should not be visited during this period.
Decalogue of the Birdwatcher
5. 7 Respect always the regulations on the protection of birds.
Many birds (birds of prey, insectivorous ...) are protected by law (Law 42/2007 on Natural
Heritage and Biodiversity). This is the result of the efforts of several generations of birdwat-
chers, scientists and bird lovers.
6 Respect the rights of landowners.
The rights of the owners of the land where we want to walk to observe birds must always
be respected. Not entering these properties without prior permission and not leaving the
authorized routes is essential for the conservation of species.
8 Respect the rights of people in the observation area.
When you meet other visitors in the observation area, you must bear in mind that they have
the same rights as you to enjoy the natural environment and its birdlife.
9 Share your comments with other local observers.
Many of the knowledge about the species that we have today is the result of the sum of the
quotations voluntarily shared by many birdwatchers. For this reason it would be advisable
that you add your quotations to the previous ones to obtain a better knowledge and a greater
protection and conservation of the birds.
You can use different platforms such as e-bird.
10 Behave as you would like others to behave in your area.
Good behaviour and the follow-up of these simple rules, make observers the best ambas-
sadors for the conservation of birds and their habitats.
5 You should not bother the rare species or vagrants.
Rare and vagrant birds should not be disturbed. If you see any, you must inform SEO/
BirdLife by email to rarezas@seo.org and our Rarity Committee will assess the specimen.
However, try not to tell everyone, the influx of birdwatchers in that area can cause troubles.
Likewise, if you think that it is an exotic bird you can communicate it to our Group of Exotic
Birds to exoticas@seo.org.
6. THE SALT FLATS
The salt flats of Calpe are in the urban nucleus
