The biosphere is divided into biomes, which are large geographical regions defined by similar climates and the plants and animals within them. A biome is influenced by abiotic factors like temperature, precipitation, latitude, elevation, oceans, wind, and geography, which shape its biotic community of interacting organisms that depend on each other for survival, such as plants providing food and shelter for animals while animals help disperse seeds and provide the food chain. The Earth contains eight main terrestrial biomes.
